Living Colour's new one...

Heavy handed as expected, but the sad part is how uninspiring the music is. Ever worse is that the best song musically and lyrically is a Sept 11th tune. As if we needed another.

Another band I dug in high school travels closer to suckdom.

Didn't know this existed. I'll keep an eye on the used bins, I suppose.

Except for a couple of songs on their first two albums, I primarily think of Stain when Living Colour pops in my mind. That was a good hard album. I also had no idea they were working together again. I'll be checking into it.

Without Muzz Skillings it never really felt like Living Colour to me. Stain was a departure to boredom in my opinion, and as a album really shared nothing with LC's previous output. I'd like to hear this new one as I'm always interested in what Vernon is up to, but I can't see buying it just to hear it.

I listened to samples on Bestbuy.com. I'm not very impressed at this point.

I'll uy it just because I'm an anal retentive bastard about completing collections of things that sit on shelves (cd's being the main vice). I adored this band as a young fella . . . and the way I see it, Living Colour at half-strength is still light years ahead of 90% of the current rock crop.

And for the record, 'Type' has one of the most EVIL riffs of all time.

Other than to check my email, I signed on a few mins ago just to see how other people feel about this album and I was kind of wondering what Nick thought knowing that he once loved this band as well as I did.

Last night, after checking out Best Buy in Kennesaw and learning they sold out all copies by early PM, I went across the street to Media Play and bought the disc - along with Galactic "Ruckus" - with no hesitation whatsoever. Upon 1st listen, I was not thrilled by a single track. I thought perhaps it needed to grow on me so I listened a 2nd time and by then I could hardly make it through several tracks. I can't believe it.

The 1st album - "Vivid" was pretty good but I was never taken by that one as much as when "Time's Up" fuckin' rocked my world - and I still listen to it regularly to this day. "Biscuits" and "Stain" aren't too bad - but "Time's Up" was the shit. I also saw Living Colour on the "Time's Up" tour and it was one of the greatest shows that I have ever seen. Corey Glover was swimming atop the pit and I jumped up, grabbed a booted leg and hung from one of my then idols as he wailed his soul rock pipes.

Anyway, the band was on fire back in the day, but I don't know what happed with "Collideoscope." I feel like a lot of the blame goes to Corey because he didn't pen real good lyrics for this one nor does he keep an intersting rhythm in his singing on many tracks. It seems that the band's talent is intact, but "Collideoscope" is missing passion and freshness. I also wonder if the band was wise in their decision to produce this album on their own.

Oh, and btw - Galactic's "Ruckus" - which is one the same label as "Collideoscope" - is wonderful.
