thought this might be news worthy to some folks here.

my boss went to the REM concert in Raleigh this past weekend.. and Bill Berry came out from backstage and performed some songs with the group.

I dont know if he is performing on other shows or not. but its great to hear that he's still with the band (so to speak).

Saw them in Atlanta Saturday night. No Berry appearance, but it was a great show anyway.

Yeah, apparently he sang back up on Radio Free Europe and then played drums for Permanent Vacation. Aweseome, aweseome, awesome. I wish I had been there.

I saw them the show before that in DC and they were really very good. I was actually a little apprehensive going in as they're probably my favorite band of all time and I dreaded the idea of a Rolling Stones type "golden oldies" tour. They really blew me away though and really seemed to have a great time playing some of the songs they haven't played in awhile. Highlights include an incredible "I Believe", Mike Mills singing lead on a amazingly tight, driving "Rockville", "Bad Day" preceded by Peter Buck calling George Bush a fucking asshole, a blazingly fast "Permanent Vacation", FINALLY a good live version of "Nightswimming", and a really great take on "Life and How to Live It." It was a terrific show all in all and really goes to show that they've still got it.

So. Central Rain has become the holy grail of rem shows for me. This was my 5th time seeing them and still no luck.

edited because I'm stoopid

I saw the show with old misfit on Sat night here in Atlanta - he was kind enough to give me a ticket. Great show. The stand-out song for me was "Life and How to Live It". The band sounded great throughout, but I thought they sounded the best on this song. Plus they played "Wolvers, Lower", which made me happy. Would have been a treat to see Berry play with them again.

And I don't care how old or uncool it makes me sound, there's still something unspeakably great about singing along with thousands of others to "Radio Free Europe."

Just wanted to chime in and agree that the show here in Atlanta was one of the best I've ever seen. Begin the begin, Radio free Europe, You are the everything, just too many great songs to name.

Did anyone else think it was funny when Michael Stipe mentioned seeing Nirvana at the same venue? I guess all the venues look the same from the stage...

Thank you, Hester. That's been bugging me since Saturday. I was 99% sure the timeline couldn't be right for him to have seen Nirvana at Phillips.
