iTunes for Windows

I like it. Maybe more than WinAmp. Time will tell.
It's cool and all, I just don't see what's so great about it other than the music store which I would never use. Plus I've just been using Winamp for years, and it would just feel wrong using anything else.

so is it true you have to have XP or 2000 to actually use the thing. I have an interest in getting in on the itunes goodness, but don't feel like revamping my present computer to do so...even though windows ME is turning out to be absolute balls of an OS.

I checked it out.

The MP3 player portion is the same as any other MP3 player. I certainly wouldn't bother dumping Musicmatch and re-organizing my library for it.

The Music store is well laid out, but the prices are absurd. Ludacris' Chicken and Beer costs more there than it does in a lot of stores where you get a CD, packaging, and better sound quality. A number of older titles I looked up were $11 and $12 bucks, too. I mean, a used CD store has this beat silly.

They'll definitely need to lower prices for the product before I'd buy something, but clearly they've attracted a number of people ready to purchase from them now.

I turned off the store right away. Not interested in that at all.

I like the organization of it. I like how WinAmp3 allowed you to lay out all of your playlists, but WinAmp3 took so long to load and seemed to be so intent on looking pretty that it hurt performance.

So I went back to WinAmp2. But iTunes is pretty good. Plus, very easy to set-up and change the tags for my music, which I've been meaning to do for a while.

All in all, I like it. Has a few bugs (like, I get a stutter when I open up Internet explorer), but if they get fixed, I think I'll stick with this.

I still can't get my version to open.

The only thing that sucks is that when you import music from a CD, it doesn't save it as an MP3. Unless I'm doing something wrong...

You have to switch from AAC to MP3 under preferences.
Yeah, Dan, go into your preferences. That's where you set-up what it's encoded as and what bitrate you want. It's also where you can set options for burning CDs and stuff.

I use I-Tunes on my Mac and LOVE it to death. Its the best MP3 player ive ever used probably, and Ive tried a lot of em. Any one here tried the Windows and Mac versions? Just curious if they're exactly the same or not.

I'm not using iTunes for whole albums (because you're right). Where it shines it buying single tracks, not having to slog through the mire for that one track you really like. ("The Final Countdown" by Europe, for example.)

basically, they're the same. one thing I did notice is that when you try to resize your iTunes window on XP, it takes about a second ot two to resize.

One thing that I wasn't aware of is that this only works if you have an iPod. I thought it would work with any mp3 player.
That's what i'd heard as well. Maybe a few versions down the road.

This program can now lean close and kiss my tailhole.

I have been using it off and on for a while, but just now when I deleted my config files and did a re-scan of my MP3 folder (because I couldn't find a "Re-scan mp3 folder" button anywhere), it put things into a million new folders by artist and album name. This is fine if ALL your ID3 tags are perfect. Mine are NOT. Result: Lots of cryptic folders, and lots of songs scattered in who knows where.

WORSE: It renamed all the files, in some cases removing numbers and artist names from the file names. Why would it remove track numbers?

KISS IT, iTunes.
You can tell it not to do that when you install it.
This is just getting more ridiculous.

Now, having made my mp3 folder its prison currency, when I run iTunes, it seems that it doesn't know where any of the files are.

There's a big list of files that IT JUST SCANNED, and clicking on any of them gives the "can't find" message. I understand I had an unwanted option activated before, but I don't get this part at all.
It might be looking for the old locations. You could try clearing the entire library and re-adding the files.

they released version 4.5 recently. Includes the ability to see some mostly crumby videos. Also, this week - because it's their anniversary - they're giving away a free song a day. Yesterday it was Foo Fighters....today, I forget [edited to add, it's avril lavigne].

As for the videos. They don't look so great on my monitor....but damn I still think Sarah Mac is the prettiest singer alive right now.

free song today is by Courtney Love.
When will they give out a good song?
who knows...

today is a remixed Annie Lennox single.

This week's free download (now they will have a new one every week) is Accidentally in Love by Counting Crows.

They have a new song every DAY! You're missing out dude.

*Edited to say they must have changed it recently. It is a new song each week. However, I have seven different songs for free from last week. Counting Crows was part of the single a day special. Maybe too many people were taking advantage of it.

*Edited again to say they did change it recently. I went to see what song was this week (it's some chick named Crea) and the blurb say:

I think the 1 a day promo was for the anniversary week, and then they've moved to a once a week download. Even if it sucks, you might as well get it to try. Not a bad concept.
