I kinda feel like someone punched me in the gut.

Ugh. No good.

Whoa.

What gives? Sad.

I have to say I'm torn on whether I prefer his version of "Because" from American Beauty to the Fab Four's. Which is my kind of high praise.

*what the fucks up wuith Yahoo.com - Brian Wilson's "Because" ???

Wow, that's kind of out of nowhere. That really sucks. RIP.

Wow, that IS a slug in the gut.

My love for "needle in the hay" will live on.

RIP Elliott.

If he was in such pain - spiritual, mental, or otherwise - that he felt the need to end his own life, then I'm glad his pain is over.

My condolences to anyone close to him also hurt by his loss.

He was only 34! What happened?!

UPDATE: Nevermind. I just learned what it was. This is eerily familiar of the demise of Nick Drake, another great folk singer/songwriter, whose depression was clearly evident in his music and whose death was ruled a suicide, but never proven.

According to this article, Smith used a knife. Very strange.

Always liked his music quite a bit - his stuff with Heatmiser and his solo work. Guy wrote some beautiful songs.

This completely ruins my day....
In fact, this could completely ruin my week. I was just starting to get back into Smith, after not listening to him in awhile.

why?

Really, really, really too bad. I saw him perform once, in Louisville, KY and he said, "Do you want to hear a happy song? or a sad song?"

And the audience all screamed, "A sad song!"

And Elliott said, "Good. Cause I don't have many happy songs."

A truly talented artist that will be sorely missed.

Wow, that makes the scene in Tenenbaums even more tragic.

I was in an indie rock chat room last night and people were talking about this. A lot of people blew it off because people apparently try to start rumors like this.

Then around 1:00AM www.sweetadeline.net posted the message that's still there. My heart sank immediately.

The only Elliott Smith album I own is Either/Or but it's one of the few CDs that hasn't left the "Most frequently listened-to albums" case in my car since I got it.

I was anxious to hear the new album. Hopefully they'll still release it.

Not to sound insensitive and more attentive to the needs of my music collection, but I hope they release it, too.

You said it...it's nigh-unwatchable at this juncture. "XO" is one of my favorite albums ever. This just really sucks.

I had just put "Figure 8" back in my cd player the morning before I found out. I probably haven't listened to it in a year. This is really tragic news.
