Ryan Adams -- Rock 'n Roll

Didn't see any love/hate posted for this yet, so I suppose I'll dive in with an early take.

The title is beyond appropriate, as "this one goes to 11". Adams turns the amps up and hits this one out of the park. It snarls like the Stooges, struts like the Stones, and sparkles like the Smiths. Love or hate his infamous 'tude, the man makes flat out great music on a consistent basis and I'm thrilled with his latest piece of work.

Apparently Parker Posey is somewhere on this album too, primarily due to the fact that Mr. Adams is currently bedding her. I couldn't really pick her out of anything, there were a couple background vocals that could've been her.

I think it comes out on Tuesday. It's been online for a couple weeks now, I think...I've been streaming it from vh1's website.

Yikes, I guess there's some kind of Ryan Adams backlash on these boards that I didn't know about. This is a really great 80's rock album.

I like Ryan Adams a lot, I just haven't listened to this album enough to comment on it yet. "So Alive" stood out the most after one listen.

Actually, I think his new EP "Love is Hell: Vol. 1" is much better than Rock n Roll. It's actually got some depth to it and it sounds great. Of course, it's the first half of the album that Lost Highway rejected which is why he had to go make Rock n Roll. There are obviously some clueless tools running that label. I'm looking forward to getting Vol. 2 next month.

I couldn't find Love is Hell Vol. 1 at any of the fucking retailers around here. Best Bizzle had Rock n Roll, but the EP was nowhere to be found. Isn't it like five or six dollars?

BB sells it for $4, I think. I don't live near a BB, so I had to pony up $6, but it's worth twice that.

On a couple listens each, they're both reasonably good, but Rock'n'Roll is no Gold, and Love is Hell is no Heartbreaker.

There's a little more substance to Love is Hell, but Rock'n'Roll is more immediately accessible. It's very 80s sounding, and Adams even attemps a U2 sound on a couple tracks. A fun record, but not much more. Love is Hell didn't do much for me on a first listen, but I really liked it on a second.

the reviews seem fairly positive, but I won't buy this. will burn a copy, if i get a chance.

Not only do I love R n R, I never woulda thought one of my favorite rock songs of the year would feature Parker Posey.

I didn't realize how much I wanted an album like this until I had a chance to absorb this one. It's been in my player for almost a week straight (excepting a few brief moments for Love is Hell 1)

Just brilliant.

There's a certain mystique/magic to the "big dumb rock song", and Adams really captures that on Rock n Roll. Love is Hell Pt. 1 is also wonderful, but in a completely different way. Adams has built quite a fucking body of work thus far in his relatively brief career.

Well I got it, albeit from a friend, and love it. Good stuff all around. Not as good as Gold, but this is a really solid album.
