Man, this guy is getting better and better. The youngest of the Newman clan (his father is the famous Alfred Newman, David Newman is his older brother, and Randy Newman is his cousin) he is already the best.

He was already fast approaching John Williams like status for me, what with his flawless scores for "Shawshank Redemption", "The Horse Whisperer", and "Meet Joe Black"... but he's more than come into his own this year with "The Green Mile" and "American Beauty".

If "Beauty" does not land the Oscar for Best Original Score this year the Dorothy Chandler Pavillion WILL burn!

I have the two Newman tracks off the "American Beauty" soundtrack on MP3. It almost brings me to tears everytime I hear it.

I actually just downloaded these a couple of nights ago. I loved 'em in the theatre (the american beauty ones) and i agree with Lowshot's description. They are really full of emotion. I litteraly just fired 'em over to John via IM....trying to spread the joy!

Do yourselves a favor and go out and buy the entire score album on CD. It just came out a couple weeks ago... and the cover is nice: Mena Suvari covered in rose petals (yeah, the ceiling shot).

The CD is worth it. The entire score of what I believe is by far the best of the year. Again, if it doesn't win the Oscar for best score something is VERY wrong. Then again, "Saving Private Ryan" lost in that category last year to friggin "Life Is Beautiful". What a f***ing crock of crap! I guess they'll give it to "Topsy Turvey" this year to be "fair".

Gawd I hate Hollywood sometimes. ;(
