Best Soundtrack ever?

Other than Star Wars stuff, my fave of late is definitely MAGNOLIA.

For me, it's the first Crow soundtrack. It exposed me to different kinds of groups that I thought I never would have liked, like the Cure. To this day "Burn" is my favorite song of all time.

I loved John Williams when I was young.

Lonesome Dove soundtrack is pretty cool.
Tangerine Dream did some cool stuff for Michael Mann, especially Thief.

I tell ya, the PI soundtrack suprised the pants off of me and kicks ass. I am not a HUGE fan of techno, but I do enjoy it more now. PI put forth a great collection and it fit the film perfectly.
Also, Magnolia does kick ass, Kissing a Fool isn't bad, LA Confidental is very enjoyable, Desperado is great... I could go on and on with this.

I'm right with ya there on the Crow, grim. I could still listen to that about once a week.
But I just told my wife last night that should she wanna but me something anytime soon, MAgnolia would be killer!

yup,

i have to agree with nick, the magnolia soundtrack is a winner (except maybe the last few songs... not everyone loves supertramp).

aimee mann has an honest voice and quite a history sticking it to "the man" or in her case, the music industry and ex-boyfriends, in her last few albums. it's kind of interesting to see an artist biting the sadistic hands that feed her... but getting back on topic: for those who saw magnolia, the soundtrack's first 9 songs really evoke the pathos and humanity within the characters of the movie. it's also nice to see a non-syphonic scored soundtrack or slick mtv-esque repackaging of the latest hot #1 singles. another interesting soundtrack to check out is for run lola run. your mileage may vary for techno, however...

LAst OF The Mohicasn has got a great score as well. You can tell exactly where in the film the scene is taking place just by the music. Rally great, inspiring stuff.

They're called trailers beacause they used to come after the movie.

Yes they are, chenzzo.

And I am with grim_fist as to the high esteem in which he/she places the Crow soundtrack. I also love the 'Flashback' soundtrack.

I like other stuff too.

Heh.

Right now, there is no one better than Thomas Newman. His score for "The Green Mile" was subdued and eloquent, but the one he conjured up for "American Beauty" is a pure masterpiece.

Other all-time faves (other than "Star Wars"):

Superman
Raiders of The Lost Ark
The Shawshank Redemption
Born on The 4th of July
you get the idea...

Just got The Beach soundtrack.

It's a winner.

Mancini's main theme from "Lifeforce". Almost belongs in a Conan movie. Great, rousing stuff.

Amem!
amem (v): to pay someone to smash a man's testicles with a large object, such as a hammer or foot, until the testicles are a fine powder.

ex: Yeah, I finally saw Disturbing Behavior. Boy, did I get amemed!

Steve means "AROUSING" stuff, as the film features a nude girl parading around for about 45 minutes.

I thought I heard both he and Lowshot clapping in appreciation of the film, but as I got closer down the staris it resembled SLAPPING.

I went back upstairs to my safety.

Ugh. I think I just got amemed again.

Hmm, you were too busy smacking away to your Liberty Meadows comic, so how could you have known, Nick?
There's nothing wrong with slapping away to Liberty Medows..

.. Unless of course it's Steve getting turned on by the little Duckling.

I'm very proud of my son. We checked him out a Star Wars book at the library that has a read-along tape -- you know, one of the out-of-work SW actors looking for a paycheck doing a little studio vocal work laying down a track of the text of the book, little "dings" on the tape telling the child when to turn the page. My son has been entranced with this tape and book. Last night he said to me, "I like this music."

Who Hoo! J. Williams has another fan.

The Big Lebowsky's music was just so great it has to be mentioned. It's not the kind of music I listen to, but it fit perfectly with The Dude's attitude and what was happening to him.
