It's one of my favorite questions. If you could pick 20 songs to represent a soundtrack of your life, what would they be?

HAM,
That's funny, because I've always viewed my life as having a soundtrack as well.

I'll post mine when I can remember all of them..
My soundtrack started shortly after birth with Iron Butterfly's In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida . Unfortunately, I haven't made it through the drum solo yet.

Must be a big Manhunter fan, huh?

Ok, so I said 20, but I've gone a little nuts, here. What the hell. Forget it. Just what you feel is appropriate for your life.

I haven't gotten out the list I made a few years ago, but some I'd need:

* - indicates really really important moments, usually a story behind it.

The Main Theme: Blind Melon - Change

*Seven Mary Three - Each Little Mystery and Blackwing
*Smashing Pumpkins - Perfect, Landslide (Fleetwood Mac cover), Thirty-three, Rotten Apples
Eric Clapton - Pilgrim
U2 - Uhm, there'd be quite a lot of them...Bad, All I Want Is You...
Blur - Cofee and TV
Whale - Losing CTRL (maybe some others for my second-favorite band; I'm fond of Eye 8 4 2)
Stone Temple Pilots - Love Adhesive Love
PJ Harvey - 50 Ft Queenie
Package - Sasparilla *wink wink*nudge nudge*
Neneh Cherry - Twisted Mess
Tricky - Hell is Round the Corner (Portishead uses the same sample, so that's ok, too)
T-Rex - Hot Rod
*Tori Amos - Winter (among others, I guess)
Beastie Boys - Sureshot (Rock Version)
Busta Rhymes - Lots, but if I had to pick one, I'd go with either How's it Gonna Be? or Turn It Up
*Red Hot Chili Peppers - Soul to Squeeze, Breaking the Girl
*Sheryl Crow - I Shall Believe
Fatboy Slim - Love Island 5000 (or 3000, or something)
Foo Fighters - A320
Jimi Hendrix - Bold as Love
Cop Shoot Cop - 3 AM Incident
*Harvey Danger - Problems and Bigger Ones
KMFDM - Ultra
Andy Kaufman - his rendetion of Rose Marie
*Our Lady Peace - Carnival, Blister, 4 AM
Pearl Jam - Given to Fly, Elderly Woman...
Presidents of the United States of America - Body, Bug City
Radiohead - Talk Show Host
REM - Sweetness Follows, Toungue, New Orleans Instrumental 1
Plastic Bertrands - Ca Plane Pour Moi
Siouxie & the Banshees - The Last Beat of My Heart, Oh Baby
*Sublime - The Wrong Way
*Kristofer Astrom - Poor Young Man's Heart
Van Halen - Ain't Talkin Bout Love, Hot for Teacher
The Wallflowers - One Headlight
Yes - Heart of the Sunrise
ZZ Top - La Grange
Bloodhound Gang - The Bad Touch (God Lives Underwater Mix)
Bjork - Lots. Venus as a Boy, You've Been Flirting again, etc...
*Queen - Under Pressure, Crazy Little thing Called Love
Primus - Making Plans for Nigel
NIN - Wish
Aretha Franklin - Nussan Dorma [her version at the '98 (?) Grammys was the best version I've heard yet]
Michael Penn - Macy Day Parade
Green Jelly - Anthem (What a band!)
Talking Heads - Same as it Ever Was, And She Was
Aimee Mann - One

Anyway, uh, I hope you guys are as inspired to choose...

RIDE, YOU BASTARDS! RIDE! YEE-HAA!

Glad to see you put Radiohead in there DJ. It's not suprising since they are one of the greatest (if not the greatest) band since the Beatles.

Ok, it can be any meaning you want. Lyrically, or whatever. I picked a few because I heard them or thought specifically of them at certain moments in my life which have some meaning to me.

If your life was a movie, what song would we hear, for example: when you had your heart broken for the first time? Or an important day? Graduation, perhaps. Everybody's got at least one good story in their life. Pick some tunes to go with it.

Some are songs that were heard at certain important places at certain important times. Some are songs that have miscellaneous meanings (for example: a girl and I stayed up all night at one party talking and singing, "The Wrong Way;" a sweet moment that I'd hate to forget). Other songs, I hear in my head when I'm walking along. Very few of the songs have meaning, lyrically. If they do, it's just short moments or something only I'd pay attention to. Don't let that stop ya. It's your soundtrack. Go nuts.

Hey, Shelby, I now hereby and officially declare you sexy.

Your taste in music is impeccable (okay, not really) and you are a Lords of Acid fan, so that's all there is to it. Were my testicles not already owned by another, they would be yours to do with as you wish.
Ah. let the music unite us all!

I love Lords of Acid, and its nice to find someone else who does also. I had 2 that I really wanted to list but the names are a bit ... I dunno ... graphic? Being a LOA fan you can probably figure it out.

Officially sexy...cool...Ill put that on my resume.

Garbages' Version 2.0 is one of my favorite albums of the last 5 years.
I enjoy it. My wife sure worked hard with her band to get 2.0 moving.

You know...I loved Garbage's first album and was horribly disappointed with V2.0...

A lot of the chewers here knock stuff just to knock it, and that's not what I'm doing here. I love Manson's voice (as I love everything about her) but felt the songwriting was done by a cookie-cutter. I think the reason that I liked 1.0 was the variation between songs like "Milk" and songs like "Supervixen" (Was that the title of it? I don't know...I'm talking about track one on the first album though...).

Whereas it seemed to me V2.0 just had kind of poppy dance hits on it, none of the slow, sultry stuff.

Also, the B-Side single "Girls Don't Come" is GREAT!

Anybody notice anything about my list? It is all post 80s. It is reason enough. I know that no one who can type could go without including some "old school" stuff.

My motto is, reflect on the past, but move forward. Yes I know. It will soon make me the aging man who wants to be hip.

That isn't really the motivation though. I am just so sick of "classic rock". I didn't come back from a solid diet of techno and rap for old men in leather pants.

I respect all the old bands, and in their time, I salute them. So, did I just come across closed-minded? Do I deny the classics? Do I have a lot to learn about "real" music?

Nope. Just an opinion. Sorry to rant, and I will end it now.

Have a good one guys.

Oh yea? Post 80's eh? Take a lookey at mine! Nothing on there before 90, exept Sweet Dreams and I actually prefer the Manson version so blah!

I dont listen to old music
Thread Starter
I still add to my list every now and again. Feel free to expand on yours.

As for using "old school" stuff, take a look at music now...Can you blame us?
I didn't mean ignoring older music. I am all about apprecitaing other's lists and opinions in general. Each of you reveal something about yourself on here... somtehing I have no right to poke fun at.

I really meant no harm there guys. You all keep loving what you love, and feel free to tell me about it. Like Nick mentioned before, it would be boring if we all agreed all the time.

Old music = good. I have tons of stuff that I love from the 80's and 90's (even the 70's... sorta). I just meant for purposes of the soundtrack of my life, in this stage, it is this current type shit seen above.

I made a "Best of the 90s" tape, taking my most overplayed song from each year that I own. It was hard to admit some of it... but I did so.

In the last decade, the value of music has taken quite a significant step forward in my life. Although I am into a kickass sounding song like the next General, I fall in love with lyrics and motivation behind the songs too. Again, I know we all do... Just "sharing".

You ALL rock.

DJ: I give you props my man, for a diverse selection. No, I don't blame you , and wouldn't want everyone to agree with me. You know I hold your opinion highly.

And Shelby: you already knew you were the coolest entry in this forum in my book. So :P
