Unfortunately he's now retired. Got fed up with publishing industry not going for his non-genre work -- I would've loved to have read his WWII epic novel.

Any other fans out there?

Stinger
Mine
They Thirst
Swan Song
Gone South

I've read Mine which was really good and a ton of his short stories (cant remember titles) has ANY of his non-genre stuff been published? I'd be interested in reading it.

I read A Boy's Life for my english class, and I loved it.

He did a Batman tale in that Batman collected stories book I mentioned. It was good from what I remember.

Nope. No non-genre stuff. He was attempting to go mainstream with a WWII piece, but couldn't find a publisher.

His short-story collection is entitled Blue World.

Batman story was great -- don't recall the title.

Boy's World! FORGOT BOY'S WORLD -- that was a great novel!

Love McCammon, and think that 'Boy's Life' is one of the best coming-of-age books out there. Only one of his I didn't read was 'Gone South'. Premise seemed goofy. Only one I didn't like was 'Swan Song', even though it had many cool elements. The writing seemed a little frenzied and he seemed to be drawing it out to 'Stand' length and for no good reason. A goofy book, certainly.

'Yellowjacket Summer' was the best story in 'Blue World', I think, and the first one.

Anyone ever read 'Under the Fang'? He edited it and has two stories in it. It's a compilation of stories about life on earth after the Vampires arise and take their rightful place as top of the food chain. Some of the stories of resistance in there are unbeatable. (Spoiler warning, although not really since the book is out of print) There is a scene where the story's hero throws a spear at a vampire overlord sitting at his banquet table, and the vampire catches it an inch from his chest, then holds it while he makes some witty remark. Without hesitation the guy leaps across the table and just drives the spear right through him. Good stuff.

Yep. Under the Fang was the first anthology from the Horror Writers Association, followed by Freak Show, Deathport, Peter Straub's Ghosts, Robert Bloch's Psychos and Whitley Streiber's Aliens. Soon to be released Bell, Book and Beyond.
