Okay, so we've established that Simmons' far-future opus kicks some fought (or something), but has anyone besides me read the dense, meaty, Neal Stephenson novel "The Diamond Age"?
I am not a techie. I change my car's oil every 10 to 40 thousand miles like clockwork. The closest I come to working on my computer is turning on the CPU.
That said, this book not only rocked my world, it took me forever to read. Every page introduces some new technological concept that does not yet exist, in plain English, and then integrates this concept into the society in the novel.
It's great, and what's more, it's eminently realistic, as it deals with the next "Revolution", which is a nanotech revolution that changes every facet of life.
It's amazing, it really is, and if you're a nerd you'll love it, and if you're a cyberpunk fan, you'll love it, and if you're a speculative fiction fan, you'll love it.
That is all.
