Has anybody ever been de$perate enough to

try 'working' for one of those online marketing companies? You know, the ones that charge you $40 or so for the initial set-up but promise you can make up to $800 a week. I know most of them are scams, but I'm getting really really desperate for money. So, is there a company out there that investigates these companies? I'm trying to find out if there is any way I can find out whether or not the one that I am considering (because I read through all their info three times and if this one is a scam it's pretty well hidden) is for real.

Don't bother posting to tell me not to risk it. I don't intend to unless I find out this company is for real. And I have done the more complicated version of this job (stuffing envelopes) for $7/hour, so don't tell me not to sink as low as stuffing envelopes- I already have.

Jen...I do this cause I care.

I wouldn't risk it. More trouble than it's worth. Besides, you shouldn't sink as low as stuffing my e-mail with envelopes.

Course I actually made money being an underground fortune hunter for fanboys and cinema geeks. What do I know?

It's no risk at all, Jen. I can't think of ANY legitimate business that charges you money (the "setup" fee) to work for them.

My advice to you is to go to AJCJOBS.com. Click on the Search function.

Under Type of Company, hit the hot fields right now (Healthcare, Education, Media) as well as any other fields you might want to work in.

Under Job Function, select Administrative/General Office/Clerical. There's at least 40 positions that have been posted in that general area in the past 2-3 days.

ONE of them is for you.

i agree, but i can sort of see why some internet based companies might want to do this. still, i wouldn't hand over a penny without a whole lot more information than i've been able to find so far. i wouldn't even consider it at all except that i'm getting pretty desperate, and at this point even if i find a really kickass job i won't be making enough $ fast enough for my mother. she wants her money NOW.
