Strange and/or memorable dreams

Last night I had a dream that I was eating dinner at some hip New York eatery with a group that included Jimmy Fallon and Horatio Sanz. I was telling them how much I liked the sketch with the Aquarium repairmen who insulted people with sentences that ended in "...over here", especially the bizarre ending with the therapist who was really an escaped patient.

This is little strange, because I really didn't like that sketch THAT much. In fact, the only thing I enjoyed was watching Jimmy try not to crack up towards the end. I've enjoyed other bits of theirs, but why this one lodged itself in my lizard brain, I have no idea.

Anyway, reality sort of shifted during the dream and I suddenly felt that I was a member of the cast, and that this dinner was a weekly thing that we all did. I felt like I belonged, but felt distanced as well, as Iif I were a rookie or newly added cast member. Jimmy seemed to just be humoring me and everything I said, while Horatio just kind of chortled constantly. I don't remember much after that other than waking up feeling weirded out.

As a child, I had a couple of dreams that I'll never forget. First, I used to sleepwalk as a child. The one night I had a vivid dream that I had had a nightmare and got up to go to my parents' room. My mom was lying on her side, facing away from me. I had to say "mom" a few times and tug on her blanket to get her to stir. When she did, she whipped around and stared straight at me.

There was no face.

Instead, there was a black, featureless round void surrounded by long, slender fangs. Imagine a worm from Lynch's "Dune", only you could tell this was a human head. Her hair and ears all looked normal.

A sound issued from the hole. A demonic, low, guttural rasp that said "WHAT DO YOU WANT?!!!"

I awoke screaming.

I also had recurring nightmares about monkeys (or monkey-like figures) that would appear in my room at the side of my bed and try to take me away with them. This dream recurred until I was 10 or 12 years old. Much later, I read about alien abductions and screen memories involving animals, and these dreams that I had all but forgotten leapt into my conciousness. I freaked out for about two solid weeks, not sleeping well at night. I eventually got over it and haven't had the dream since.

What about your dreams?

Oh yeah, and in that dream with my mom, her head appeared to be 2-diminsional. Not just flat, but posessing no depth whatsoever. I remember that part really freaking me out too.

The most vivid dream I ever had was a plane crash nightmare. I was on a plane with my entire immediate family. On takeoff, we crashed into a freeway overpass. I could clearly hear, ,smell, see and feel everything: screams, redning metal, pain, smoke, fire, darkness, the sense of impact, the violence, the cacophony and chaos. It all seemed, utterly, convincingly real, and not dreamlike at all.

I was sitting bolt upright already by the time I woke up from this one.

I've flown since then, but I'm an emotional wreck every time.

Two nights ago I dreamt I walked up to some guys playing pool. I asked them, "Which one of you guys is Dan Laugharn?" A tall and wiry guy said, "Me."

That's it.

There were also those two strange dreams I had about a guy I knew who died last month. In one he was sitting on a couch watching stock-car racing. In the other, he was sitting in his office and I came in and fell prostrate on the floor before him.

A recurring nightmare I used to have when I was a youngin.

I would dream that we would be in the living room watching TV. For some reason I would feel a chill and a strong force pulling me down this long hallway we had. The hallway didn't have any light, so it would get really dark. The room at the end would be pitch black and I would get sucked in. The door would slam behind me. I would see/feel a menacing force in the room and would hear a groaning voice from the dark. I couldn't get out before this thing enveloped me.

I would have to force myself to wake up to get out of it.

Time and again this dream would occur. Often keeping me up for hours scared out of my wits afterwards. I eventually faced the nightmare in the room. I don't recall how I did it, but I never dreamed about it again.

A dream I had about a week ago-

I woke up on a boat dock, walking around. I hear someone saying my name, and look over and see a couple of my friends talking to someone, asking about me. I just keep on walking.

After a while 3 of my friends come running up to me. They start getting all crazy, asking me where i've been. I'm all confused, and don't know what the hell they're talking about, I tell them I just got here. They tell me that i've been missing, and they've been looking for me. I ask how long i've been gone, and they say 10 weeks. I get freaked out, because I don't rememeber where I've been.

The dream ended with me telling them I didn't know what they were talking about and walking away....while my friends watched me, looking worried and scared.

No idea what the hell that one means.

I love my dreams. Here's a quick summary of recent/recurring dreams I've had:

Being in the cockpit of a Mech, in furious fighting in a city...

Being in the cockpit of a Tie Fighter or X-Wing (or any number of variants) fighting fierce space battles...

Playing guitar a LOT better than I do in real life...

Constant scenes that take place at my grandparents' homes, from the mundane to the sublime...

Dreams that seemingly have Celebrity Guests of the Week...

Dreams that involve some particularly engaging book/movie/game/real-life incident that happened the same day...

LOTS of sex dreams, usually involving old flames...

And plenty more...

I have a friend who had ultra-violent and ultra-realistic nightmares about being a colonial marine from 'Aliens'. Everything took place in an urban, present day environment. Aliens would jump out of doorways, assault him from blind alleys, etc. He said it felt like he had been shooting and killing things non-stop for DAYS when he awoke from these. They disturbed him quite a bit - not the least because sometimes he started shooting people instead of Xenomorphs.

I wish I could have MECH and sex dreams.

I had a dream that I drove my little VW too close to a parking deck pillar, getting it stuck. I simply got out, grabbed the rear bumper and pulled it loose. Waking up, I was pulling my bed away from the wall.

I once had a dream that Johnny Butane was showing me and some other girl around in a sextoy shop. He was describing various sextoys and making recommendations.

That was a while back, before him and the lovely GC got together

This morning I had what felt like a semi-lucid dream. Once again, my dream was taking place in my actual surroundings - my bed. I dreamed that I had awoken groggily, and was holding an empty plastic cup up to my mouth. I began to sing "Innocent When You Dream" in my best Tom Waits voice, into the cup. It produced an approximation of the "Waits-through-a-megaphone" sound. I sounded good. In fact, it was because I sounded so fucking good that I began to suspect I was dreaming. I went through the whole song anyway, and it was glorious.

When I finished, my wife turned over from her side of the bed, and in her most exasperated tone of voice said, "What are you doing??

Then I woke up for real.

I have very vivid dreams...some cool, some scary. I like flying dreams the best. For a while I kept having a recurring dream of flying over a city at night. It was beautiful. One of the scariest dreams I have had was of a cartoon alligator mad scientist trying to inject me with a giant needle when I was little. My dreams have always been weird.

I had the same dreams when I was very young though I think they stemed from my fear of the flying monkeys from The Wizard of Oz.

The weird thing about my dreams is that half of the dreams I remember I was not in them. Most people particpate in their dreams in some way but in quite a few of my dreams I am not in them I am just watching what is happening. The dreams I do particpate in I am always telekinetic(sp?). I am able to move things with my mind with such easyness that it is second nature. But I can only move small things, nothing big.

The most recent dream I had was one I just watched and was not in. It involved people dressed in 1920's clothes eating quietly around a big dining table in a big mansion. Everyone is in black clothes except for one woman who is sitting at one end of the table. She is wearing a red dress. She grabs the pepper to put on her food and she gets a whif of it and sneezes into a white handkerchief. Blood comes out of her nose and fills the piece of cloth turning it red (whoever says you only dream in black and white is wrong I remember the colors in this dream vividly). She lood down at the handkerchief startled at what happened and sees that in the blood she sneezed out there are cut rubies and diamonds. Everone else sees this too and all except one little kid surrounds her pinning her to her chair. With the pepper shaker they force her to breath in more pepper and sneeze again and again spilling out more jewels. Each sneeze gets more violent and the jewles cut up her nose so bad that she is hemoraging from the nose. The kid pleads crying for the people to stop. It was at this point I knew that the kid was her son. They don't even notice the kid and continue making her sneeze untill she is dead on the floor, her nose in shreds. Then they excitedly start counting up the jewels while the kid is crying over his mom's dead body.

That is by far the most F-ed up dream I have had in years. So I am writing it into a short story that I will submit to Chudstories.

The most frightening dreams I have ever had are ones in which I am paralized while I see a devil like creature doing something to me. I can't breath and my lungs are burning for air and this creature is keeping me from breathing then I wake up to find I have my face in my pillow and my pillow is smothering me. But the most frightening part of this dream is that I can't move even when I am awake and it takes a massive amount of effort to even turn my head to the side an inch or two to get fresh air. Usually I am up for the rest of the night after I've had one of those dreams.

The most recent reoccuring dream that I am having is about me driving my car and the break petal keeps on getting further and further away from my foot untill I can barely touch it but can't stamp down on it. It is either that or my leg gets so week that I don't have the power to push it down.

I want to go sometime to a dream expert just to see what they have to say. Isn't the Sci-Fi channel sarting a new talk show about dreams?

I am a person who can NEVER remember dreams. Like I couldnt tell you what I dreamt last night.

I only seem to remember dreams that I wake up in the middle of but look on the bright side DJ Dylan at least you dream. A friend of mind refuses to admit that he ever has had a dream. I have no idea why he does this. What possible reason would someone have to lie about dreaming?

On Saturday, I had my first Zombie dream.

It was just flashes, but I was following two people {a dude and a brunette chick} around in the 3rd person. We were in a morgue {a really BIG morgue}, and the two people were working on a body when the lights and power went off..."We" pushed the body back to the freezer, slid it into the little coffin-esque compartment, and started to close the large steel door when I noticed that it wasn't very cold in there. Just as the door was a few inches from closing, this "Zombie-hand" {the best way to describe it} popped up outta the compartment and stopped the door from closing. At that point...ALL HELL BROKE LOOSE, and compartments started opening left and right...We, for some reason it was now me and the same brunette chick, ran like hell, with all these doors opening and fucking zombies crawling out....

...it was at this point, I literally woke myself up and told myself that I was NOT going to continue having this dream.

Honestly, this was the first actual "nightmare" I've had in a long time, and I can still see it very clearly. I now feel compelled to write a good, old-fashioned, cliche'd-as-hell, zombie screenplay about it...

Make sure to include a part where the zombies break into the local Aquarium/zoo to duke it out with the sharks and crocodiles. wink

I've always wanted to se somthing like that happen in zombie movies

Bunuel/Dali nightmare about gems falling from a bloody nose.
Wow. This should make a VERY interesting short story. Great imagery.

Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit, yo, I used to have a very similar dream, over and over. For me, though, any normal dream could suddenly be taken over and become this same nightmare. Whatever situation I'd be in, things would be going normally (as normal as dreams get, I guess), and then I'd hear this low, menacing tone and I'd know IT was happening. Circumstances varied but basically when that tone sounded, I knew that this evil thing had entered my dream. I never saw it, but I imagined it as a vaguely man-shaped black figure. Throughout the rest of the dream there'd be a sense of unease, and often, other people would start reporting that they'd encountered this thing. It was only a matter of time until it caught me -- I knew I was the one it wanted, which is why it let the others go. Eventually, no matter what I did, I would feel a pull, as if someone had grabbed me from behind by my belt, and I'd be slowly drawn backwards, unable to move, as something behind me laughed evilly. The dream always ended right as it was about to touch me. This happened for years. Eventually they just stopped -- I would have loved to confront it somehow but it just went away on its own.

This dream I only had once, when I was probably five or so, but I remember it vividly to this day: I was watching tv, alone, when something made me want to go into our living room (we had a "tv room" and a "living room"). I was being called somehow to one of the couches. I got over to it, and the cushions lifted up to reveal the Wolfman, hiding underneath the couch (although I got the sense that he wasn't just under the couch; more like I was seeing a doorway to a completely different place -- like a buried coffin). He beckoned for me to get in with him. I looked around, and saw my father working in the kitchen, but I couldn't make any noise. I was absolutely terrified, shaking, and crying, but I got in with the Wolfman. At this point my point of view changed and I saw myself getting in with him, and as he pulled the cushions back down with one hand, he hugged me close with the other. Man. I think it was quite a while before I started sleeping normally after that.
