Carnie Wilson lost 150 lbs...

by removing her entire stomach (gastric bypass surgery)!

I remember hearing about this a year ago, but yesterday I feel asleep with the TV on and woke up to Connie Chung interviewing her. She looks fabulous.

But as Carnie described the surgery, I can't believe anyone would do it. She literally had her intestines removed, except for a small piece that is "about the size of a thumb" and "can expand to the size of a lemon wedge." eek!

She lost so much weight so fast that she said she literally had skin hanging off her body. (I couldn't help but picture Fat Bastard in Goldmember as she was describing how when she took a bath "her skin would float on top of the water." She got a tummy tuck to remove the excess skin.

I tried to find a full body photo, but to no avail. This link has a face shot and if you remember how she looked before, it's a dramatic improvement.

When I worked in Medical City Dallas Hospital about 6 years ago that was one of the new surgeries that you could have and one of the DRs there was the specialist for that surgery (at that time). I was a transporter for radiology, which meant that I wheeled inpatients to the radiology area. And of course those who had the GPS had to go to radiology after their surgery. They had to have what was called a Barium burger. That was when they took a hamburger patty and soaked it in Barium and then they ate it.

So basically I had to wheel these 300-600 lbs patients to radiology to puke (Sometimes I had to call on the guy transporters for help, they were that heavy). Because that's what they always did. They had to eat a whole patty, soaked in this nasty white Barium when their stomach was now super tiny.

But I tell you what, I saw some people come back that were hundreds of pounds lighter. It was insane. They were always so happy about it, but I remember all the pain that they went through since I saw them through out their time there and when they had to come back in for more tests.

If I was that overweight, I'm just not sure if I would go that route or not. Sure beats death though.

Being used as a nifty hand bag.

Like I've said a million times before. Drastic weight loss is detremental to ones health. Almost as much as being overweight.

China, most likely.

Remember those $41 hamburgers Dan was talking about the other day?

She looks pretty good. Just the face shot alone shows a dramatic improvement.

I know, I saw myself on TV the other day and I was fairly amazed at how much the camera magnifies a round face, after having lost mine...and I've still got about 25 to go.

I'll be 175 by June. But I ain't doing no surgeries! I'm just workin' it baby!

The whole idea freaks me out. Seems like if you momentarily lost self-control (which anyone getting this operation would probably have a short supply of in the first place) and ate too much, you're stomach could explode. I know someone who had this operation, and she tells me, "no, you'd just throw up." Carnie does look like a totally different person, though.

I know two people who had this surgery. They each told me that the surgery does shorten your life by a few years, but not as much as being morbidly obese does.
One of the ladies stuck to her post surgery diet (which is very strict) and is doing fine. She was actually healthy enough to have a baby a year after surgery.
The other still eats as before and continues to drink alcohol (a major no-no.) She has lost lots of her hair and just looks all around terrible, but she is so obsessed with the fact that she is now skinny that it doesn't seem to register with her. Now she's having a nose job too. The saddest part is she has a daughter that looks exactly like she did (before the weight loss and nose job) I just wonder what all of this must be doing to the kids own self-image.
I guess it depends upon the person. Clearly the second lady should not have been considered a candidate for surgery.

Besides, Wendy Wilson was and still is the hottie in the group. But I'm glad for Carnie that she can improve her health.
