Fat people

Thread Starter
You've seen them. Overweight, stuffing cheeseburgers down their throat and getting offended because you look at them funny and avoid their smell.

Now I have nothing personal against fat people. I underastand there are some fat people who are genetically predisposed to tipping the scales... but I get pretty pissed when I see these guys and gals running to McDonalds for every meal and then shouting they have a genetic defect. Please.

Lets face it, being fat is not healthy. America has more fat people than any other country on the planet. If some people are gentically predisposed to being fat, then why aren't there more fat people in Africa? Europe? Perhaps because the genetic angle is some bullshit reason dreamed up to excuse the eating habits of fat people?

You're kidding, right?

Well, fat people hate assholes, so it all works out in the end.

Ummm, Colt45? You may kiss my fat ass. Thanks!

I have been eating an almost vegetarian diet for a while now. I was called to lunch by someone who wanted to go to Carl's Jr. I walked into the place and almost gagged at the smell of the griddle and fry-oil! I very nearly walked out and could barely stand to have a salad...no dressing as they didn't have anything appetizing.

Eating like Americans do is an addiction that needs to be broken. I've done it...lost almost 50 pounds so far, look and feel great. And I used to do Carl's Jr for some sort of BBQ-flavored burgers and In-N-Out for Double-Doubles! My heart used to hate me for my blood pressure of 200/100.

Now it's a perfect 120/80.

Avoid those burgers folks! The Surgeon General should put huge warning signs in front of McDonald's, etc!

If I were at a zoo and I passed a cage where a slightly bonkers monkey reached in his diaper and threw some poo at me, and then proceeded to eat the remnants on his hand, I probably wouldn't waste an insult or any sort of energy on any form of a reply due to the pitiful, lowly source of the commotion.

And it's probably best that you guys treat this the same way.

Eating badly is a freedom that I cherish and no one is going to take it from me.

Way I look at it, it's an investment. 'Yellow gold' as Homer Simpson puts it. For every year that chloresterol takes off of my life, that's one more year that my 401k will not have to cover. Now, I estimate by that time, I'll need to withdraw about $50k a year or so to cover living expenses depending on how many diseases I have. If I die just 5 years earlier, that's a quarter million dollars I save. My 401k could never match that kind of return on investment.

Buy Yellow gold.

Then don't move to Britain!

Tax rises on fatty foods have been urged by doctors in order to curb growing obesity levels.
The British Medical Association (BMA) is discussing a proposal to charge 17.5% VAT on high-fat foods such as biscuits, cakes and processed meals.

A worthy debate can be had about this topic I think. I would think that no one would doubt that obesity is a growing problem in the developed world.

In America the situation is getting worse.

http://www.cnn.com/2000/HEALTH/mayo/10/05/obesity.america/

Quote:
Since 1991, obesity among adults has increased by nearly 60 percent nationally. Whites — with a 7 percent increase — had the largest increase in obesity rates between 1998 and 1999, according to the CDC.
And in the UK its not much better,

Quote:
"The UK is facing an epidemic of obesity and obesity-related disorders," he told BBC Radio 4's Today programme.

"A fifth of men are obese and very nearly a quarter of women in the UK are obese and this figure is expected to rise further."
Of course the questions are;

Should we do anything about it?

If yes then what?

Any sensible ideas?

It's about time the government starts taxing fatty foods. The hypocrisy of tobacco taxes and drug prohibition while McDonald's is able to provide just about the cheapest food around, is pretty clear to any intelligent person. Either let everyone ingest whatever the hell they want (this is what I'd prefer), or limit harmful substances equally; don't selectivley pick out a few vices to outlaw/tax while others are equally, if not more, dangerous.

I'll happily pay my $10 for a pack of smokes when Joe Heartdisease starts paying more than $0.49 for a cheeseburger.

The attack on smoking, drugs, booze and now junk food is fucking horeshit.

It's not the government's job to protect us from ourselves!

I am starting to gain my weight back, so I think I can comment on the issue without seeming like I have something up my ass. If I get back to being fat again most likely I have no one to balme but myself. Everyone has the right to be obese if they choose, and some people may be obese due to matters out of their control, but this is a serious issue that is plaguing our country. Kids are having heart attacks at much younger ages. We are in a fucking fast food nation and we need to shape up quick if we WANT to change.

I am nowhere near fat, but while I was being defensive around here in regards to us "smaller framed" people, I somehow managed to get myself up to an additional 20 lbs on my 5'6" frame. Yes, I can still give Demi a run for her money in a two-piece. Heh.

Fat, skinny, matters not. Healthy is what counts. "You are what you eat". Love yourself, regardless.

Look, in my case it's glandular.

Honest.

Bah, we do need to do something about our eating habits. Being overweight makes you feel like shit, both physically and emotionally. I just went from 150 pounds to 134 pounds in three weeks, and I am beginning to suspect that my weight problem may have been caused by being best friends with a walking eating disorder. I suspect this because I lost the weight while not speaking to said walking eating disorder and since we are speaking again I have begun to compulsively overeat just as badly as before. I am not sure who needs counselling more, suffice it to say that I am on a diet. frown

Good luck...I think.

I'm going to need more than luck to deal with all this shit.

At least my curly fries are always there for me... wink

Generally, skinny and fit coincide with healthy.

raoul, true, but you can have a bigger build and still be healthy is what I was trying to convey. I've been around CHUD long enough to know that the posters here all view fat, skinny, heavy and thin differently.
All this talkin' has made me hungry.

I blame my fatness on CHUD. Bastards!

Speaking as someone who was fat I will say a few things about it.

1.It is not good for you or your social life.

2.Don't become it.

3.If you are fat, stop it now. This can be accomplished several ways. Mine was Weight Watchers for a year, and it worked because I STUCK RELIGIOSLY TO THE PROGRAM.

4.If you think it's alright, you are in denile. It is akin to a parasite, something to get rid of, not to live with. Fat is a product of laziness. The only person at fault for it is yourself.

And don't do the surgeries. If you don't have the will power to do it, you only get fat again after your lazy-ass surgery. Surgery should be reserved for those who are bed bound Ricki Lake guests.

And while we're at it, I agree with General Zod and his assessment that the government protecting us from ourselves is bullshit. If you take away people's personal responsibilities, then you create product such as the current populus.
