Panama City Beach, Florida

So, I'm heading to the Redneck Riviera for a long weekend of debauchery. Anybody ever been? It was THE vacation place to go, growing up in Atlanta, but I never made the trip before now. Probably never would have if I hadn't stumbled upon a free condo for the weekend, since I hear it's pretty trashy.

So, any suggestions?

Wow.

I'm about three hours from Panama City, so I've put in my fair share of time. Christ, between at least three spring breaks, a couple of graduations, and a few random weekends, I'd say that I've spent the fair share of time for about three people. Haven't been back since it became legal for me to do most of the stuff I used to do there. Although I'd have to start a new thread just to tell some of the stories, the highlights include:

The Stolen Police Megaphone Incident
The Destroyed Chair Coverup
The Rented Moped Marijuana Scandal
The EZ-Cheez + Security Deposit Bonanza
"I'm gonna take that fucker's paperwieght"
"Kids came outta that vagina! KIDS, MAN!"

and my personal favorite, THE LSD SEAGULL EXTRAVAGANZA.

These are just a few.

Have a good time. Avoid the police. Say hello to the remnants of The Long Beach/Twin Palms Inn. Buy me something from Shipwreck Shirts.

We were there last November (well, right outside of PC Beach). It was off-season, so there wasn't much activity going on, other than the locals. We went to the movies twice...one theater had a sound system that made my home system sound like THX at Skywalker Ranch, and the other theater smelled of urine. Yum.

If it's open the big club last time I was there was La Vela. Don't know if Spinnaker (next door) is still there or not. Also, don't miss all the head shops and tattoo parlors that are just about everywhere you go on the strip. Since it's summertime, I'm sure you'll see your fair share of people.

If you're really feeling adventurous, there's a great little pizza place down towards Seaside on the Gulf Coast Pkwy (Hwy 90? I can't remember). The name escapes me, but it's right next to a do-it-yourself car wash, and has a white gravel parking lot. It's a white building with green trim, if I remember correctly. Have fun!

One of the girls going with us is dying to go to La Vela. I've heard it's just a horrible meat market and am kinda dreading it.

I haven't been there in years, but if memory serves La Vela and Spinnaker were indeed both giant meat markets. My advice to you is to start drinking heavily.

Here's the La Vela/Spinnaker story (as I heard it)...

La Vela was built by two brothers, and they got pissed off at each other at some point, so one of the brothers decided to build Spinnaker right next door to La Vela.

Last time I was at either club (and this was looooonnng ago), La Vela was the "hip" place, and Spinnaker was the kinda dirty, "rock and roll" place. And yes, they were both a meat market. Of course, I was part of that market back then.

I hope you don't have a problem with white trash cause you're gonna be surrounded by it. Redneck Riviera is a very apt name for the town.

I have had one of those myself. One of my highlights include being told by a cop that I look "stone cold sober," after my friend had been arrested for DUI while we were cruising on the strip. This was after about 8 shots of whiskey and four beers...he then proceeded to hand me the keys to drive home; which I promptly dropped three times while trying to start his Suburban. Stupid cop.

On second thought, I do have something constructive to contribute: check out the mini golf course. They have one of those insane, gigantic minigolf courses, which just rules. There's a go-cart track, too, which is pretty cool cuz you can drive like a total asshole and noone will pull you out of the car and start beating you with billy clubs.

I hope you're talking about Goofy Golf, the one with the giant chinese dragon, the Easter Island head, and the Brontosaurus. Fucking awesome place.

Yep, that's the one.
