What sound card would you recommend?

Is the Sound Blaster Live Gamer! any good? I saw it at CompUSA for $79.99. For some reason, the regular SBL card that came with my comp can no longer be detected, thus I cannot update the drivers. Idiotic.

I'd buy Audigy 2 or something like that, but right now I can't really blow 130 bucks or more. What do you guys use/recommend?

for easiest compatibility that would be the card to get, for a card that will physically last until you want to upgrade or a card with well written drivers that don't bog your system down, go with Hercules: the Fortissimo III series is $50 at CompUSA or the Digifire for $80

And no I am not a fan of Creative, once in the course of six months I had three Creative products fail: 1) Sound card just under 18 months old, 2)DVD-rom drive around 10 months old, 3) replacement Live! Card six months old. I have never had any problems with my hercules.

I would've said Audigy 2 if money weren't an issue.

And for the record, I've never had a problem with any Creative product in the 8 or 9 years I've had PCs.

Skip out on the Audigy 2 and get the original Audigy Platinum. Only difference is an upgrade to 6.1 from 5.1, and it's not really worth it in my opinion.

You also get the ability to play DVD-Audio from your computer with the Audigy 2. Not to mention with the platinum you get that clunky deck that has so much going on that most people would never use.

Just get the Herculies or the Audigy Gamer. Both are good cards for the value and can meet almost anyones computer soundcard needs.
