Kelly Hu in X-Men 2, what think you?

Anybody got an idea as to what her character is? Is she going to be a mutant, or just another of those pesky homo-sapiens?

I haven't bothered seeing The Scorpion King, so I'd like to know how she is. Acting wise, obviously.
she's got a pretty smile

<img src="http://www.chud.com/graphics5/hu2.jpg" alt="" />

and i will be happy if she is scantily clad
post #3 of 45
Kelly Hu was the only positive thing about Scorpion King. I'm waiting to see how she does in Cradle to the Grave before I judge her as competent when it comes to action. I know she has a fight scene against Jet Li in that movie.
I don't know. I've never seen Martial Law, and did not go to see The Scorpion King.

The reason I'm posting: Who the hell is Striker?

According to the Hollywood Reporter, she's a "mutant with human emotions". Huh? That's why I didn't bother trying to explain that. I really just did the story so we could post some pictures of Kelly Hu.

At least she's not a human with mutant emotions, I guess. Wait a minute...there were pictures?

She'd make a mean Psylocke.

That sounds like a darn good call, I always liked Psylocke.

Somebody else take this one. It makes my head hurt just to think about it.

Psylocke was the only thing I could think of. Of course, she's not Asian, she's a Brit, but that's neither here nor there.
It has been awhile so if I'm wrong just say so, but didn't for a while there during the mutant massacre, they draw her with a tinge of an Asian look when they had her as a bad ass hand to hand fighter.
wasn't Stryker/Striker the one that ended up being a brother/father/something to Cable and Cyclops? Will have to pull out my books and look.
It's been ages since I read an X-book, but wasn't there, at one point, some crazy deal where her mind was transferred to an asian ninja/assassin or some other weird procedure where her features took on an asian appearance?
Maybe I am right after all.

I believe that was Stryfe. Whose headress was rivaled only by Skeletor's in the last few minutes of Masters of the Universe. Also, if memory serves, he was an older version of Cable, Nathan Summers, who somehow came from the future to wreak havoc.

Man, were the X-books a mess in the early 90's or what?
They're still a mess, IMHO. Even the new 'reimagined' title. To be frank, if I swallowed a some paper, and an artist, I could shit out a better book than Ultimate X-Men.

Kelly Hu would be the PERFECT choice for Psylocke. Damn. Why didn't they just do that instead of casting her as some standard issue villain?
Lesse if I remember here.

At one point, most of the X-Men were either dead or missing, and it was down to like FOUR of 'em in Australia somewhere. Wolvie, Psylocke (when she was still British Betsy Braddock), and like two others.

The Marauders were on their trail and about to kill them or something, and to escape, the X-Men had to go through some portal that would "kill" them as they were, but recreate them elsewhere.

Betsy re-appeared in Japan with no memory and The Hand got a hold of her when they transferred her to a new body in some weird spiritual ceremony. They turned her into a great assassin who kicked Wolvie's ass by using her psychic blade.

Unfortunately, going into his scrambled psyche shattered the brainwashing from The Hand, so she realized who she was and became a hero again.

Yeah...I know. CRAP writing. This was one of the lowest points in the book.

Anyway, Hu is NOT Psylocke. Her character is named "Anne Reynolds," and it appears that they're mirroring the "God Loves, Man Kills" storyline which I absolutely don't remember.

Striker is the cat who landed the plane after Peter Graves took ill I believe...

Man that is right on!

Stinking and besides Wolvie and perhaps ambit she has always been one of the X-Men I love!

Yeah, that's exactly the kind of crap that made it impossible for me to get into comics when I was a kid. I still have a pathological fear of long-running superhero books (except the occasional Batman) and would much rather read a comic which began within the last ten years, or which at least has the beginning of the storyline available so that I can figure out what the heck's going on.

Also, the second there's a plot twist built around a costume change, I'm so outta there.

a blade which was the "sheer totality of her psychic mutant power", as Chris Claremont was kind enough to point out EVERY SINGLE TIME SHE USED IT.

indeed, X-Men became a complete garble.

i do like me that Kelly Hu, though... hopefully she'll tussle

Geek flashback:
If I recall, he liked to point out a very similar thing about the oft-wielded sword that Colossus' sister, Magik, used. Recycle much, Chris?

I dug the British Psylocke over the badass ninja one. More relatable as a character.

By the way, it was exactly at the point when the X-Men were reincarnated that I gave up comics pretty much entirely. Coincidence?

Incidentally, I don't recall the God Loves, Man Kills storyline much either, but I believe that was a graphic novel that didn't affect the continuity of the regular series that much, right? Kind of a one-off that illustrated some of the more political points of the X-Men.

The name of the character she is supposed to play is Anne...I have no idea who that is?!?!

Actually this was one of my favorite X-Men stories from the 80's. Published as a graphic novel and really accentuating the "mutant hysteria" in the Marvel Universe.

Stryker is an evangelist who preaches that mutants are a blight on humanity. This is the same kind of rhetoric that Senator Kelly espoused in the first film.

The difference with Stryker though is that he's actually doing something about the "mutant problem" behind the scenes. With the millions he's acquired from the pulpit he's formed an elite team of mutant exterminators and these folks are hard-core. They've got all sorts of tracking devices tuned to mutant physiology and the like. Stryker hates mutants because his wife died while giving birth to one. He promptly killed that child.

The book started at night with an operative chasing down two children, killing them as their powers were just starting to manifest and hanging their lifeless bodies in a park. Pretty gritty stuff even for today. This would be a great opening scene if they pull this off for the movie.

The team in the book was Cyclops, Storm, Wolverine, Nightcrawler, Colossus, Shadowcat (Kitty Pryde) and Prof. X. There's someone else who joins them in their battle, but I won't ruin it for ya.....go check it out. Decent read...

The single best lineup, IMO (maybe with the addition of Rogue a little later). But that's what it was when I first started reading the book, so maybe I'm biased.

That's an insult to the more important, but oft-forgotten mainstays like Longshot, Banshee, Dazzler, and Forge.

You get those four on one team, and we're talking unbeatable, baby.
Aren’t some of us forgetting about a certain ex girlfriend of Wolverine's named Lady Deathstrike? I believe her name was.

But I agree with the Psylocke guess.
Yeah, but what's about our great friend LONGSHOT? The guy deserves a franchise, in my humble opinion.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again. I could really care less about anyone besides Logan. I'm dying to see a movie about my boy on his own, and christ, if DarefrickinDevil can get his own flick, surely Ol'Canucklehead can be let loose after X2. Maybe it's because he's just an old stubborn bastard, like me, but I just want him. Okay, maybe Psylocke.
Though the possibilties that character can possess is incredible if you think about it.

A movie bout him would make ten times more snese in terms of him surviving incredible things and having one in a million chances come through then say James Bond surviving half the stuff in his films.

POh and I was talking about Longshot.

Sooooo... what you guys are saying is that Kelly Hu is playing SOMEONE named Anne somthingorother?

She will PROBABLY be a friggin stock mutant with your average shoots beams out of her "use your imagination".
She wont be psylock cuz she was an Xman and Hu is cast as a VILLIAN.
Jeeze I read this whole thing to figure out THAT.
Uhhhh she is actually not a stock mutant in this case as she is an empath....yes there were a lot of empaths but none really got show time like Pro X. that and she happens to be the right hand....WOman to the lead villian.

But what do i know.
I'll follow the crowd's lead here: X-Men fell apart right around the time Cable and co. showed up, The sweet Psylocke in pink had it all over yet another sexy ninja Psylocke, and 'God Loves, Man Kills' would've been wonderful on film. That was clear from the first.

Logan chasing after Rachel would've been cool too, but that has way too much backstory behind it to make a coherent film.

<a href="http://www.darkhorizons.com" target="_blank">Dark Horizons</a> has revealed that Kelly Hu will be playing Lady Deathstrike in X-Men 2. So that's that cleared up then.
Intresting. Also, Xavier is not an empath as stated in a previous post. He is a telepath.
Hu's character is indeed lady deathstrike, but possibly a merger of her and a minor from "god loves, man kills"

check it out <a href="http://www.chud.com/news/june02/june11x2.php3" target="_blank">Here</a>

you should eat more, thats all im saying....I eat a cow a day (oh the lies, the lies!)

*gets strange growth on forhead from bovine growth hormone*
Hmmmmmm....
eek!

Speaking as someone who has actually read the script, allow me to clear a few things up.

First, the GOD LOVES, MAN KILLS thing is out of control. This is NOT the source material for the new film. There are some thematic similarities, but the Stryker in the film has nothing to do (other than the name and a hatred of mutants) with the character from the Claremont piece.

Anne Reynolds, the Kelly Hu character, is Stryker's personal guard, and although she's similar to Lady Deathstrike (a giant spoiler I wouldn't have printed anywhere if it weren't for Hu's big mouth), that's not who she's playing. The name is never used in the script, and their backgrounds are very different.

And her powers aren't generic. They are very specific. And they're going to give Logan fits.
