The Ali G Show

Aybody else catch this? I thought the show was, in the words of our English brethren, bloddy brilliant. I was fucking rolling. The interview w/ Edwin Meese..."...surely your girlfriend is worth more than a telly...unless of course its one of those new plasma screens with surround sound." I hope this sticks around.

I was amused by the dating service sketch.

"If you cheat on me, I WILL CRUSH YOU."

Other than that, it was a tad mediocre.

I look at this guy, and I wanna kill someone.

Funny in short bursts, but the TV series was a step too far. He worked best when he was just doing mock-serious interviews with politicians and the like - the sketches are lame.

When he started out, the character was used to poke fun at politicians who honestly thought that he represented "youth" culture - and that was good. But then the character himself became the joke, and it got old.

I can agree with that assessment. I really only watched bits and snatches of it as I was flipping back and forth between this and The Dave Chapelle show. What I did see though, while not groundgreaking, was pretty damn funny. "You remind me my wife."

I find it craptacular bordering on offensive.

I think we're a little underexposed to Ali G here in the colonies. I still think he's a riot, but give me couple weeks to get bored by it.

I think that's kind of the point.

When you think of how serious hip-hop culture takes itself, this guy is a public service announcement.

What he said. After sitting through an episode of this I felt many IQ points dumber.

I actually enjoyed the other character skits much more than the Ali G character.

Exception to everything I've said above -- James Lipton rapping quite possibly could be the funniest thing ever!

Question: How do they get these famous people to go his show? It's like someone lied to them, and when they arrive they have no idea what hit them?

The show's organizers basically bluff their way in by convincing the marks that it's going to be a serious interview, relying on the fact that nobody's ever heard of him before, and knowing that many of these people don't bother to screen their interviewers beforehand. The marks come out of the interview thinking that the man they just spent half an hour with is a genuinely stupid individual, not realizing that it's all being done for laughs. They're only let in on the joke when the show airs.

I think The Daily Show operates on a similar level with their "interviews".

I saw this guy on some late night show last week. What a fucking nutjob. Plus, I understand more of what Ozzy says, than this fucking Ali G guy. They should get him some subtitles.
