Ian McKellen - December 8 at 8pm

Martin Scorsese - December 15 at 8pm

These are brand new episodes!

I just hope he doesn't fawn and gush over Scorsese as much as he did over Spielberg. That guy really overdoes it sometimes.

He does that with everybody, which made Will Ferrell's impersonation of him on SNL so hilarious.

And he also scares them by bringing up these really unknown facts that he finds out about them. Like the name of their dog when they were struggling to make it and living in a bathtub.

He's a weird guy, but it's a great show if you are at all interested in learning about the people he talks to and why they became actors/filmmakers.

My favorite episodes have included:

Mike Myers
Billy Crystal
Steven Spielberg
Kevin Spqacey
Jack Lemmon
Robin Williams
and so on...

I ran a regular and advanced search but couldn't find any old threads, so I did one via Google and looked what turned up.

Anyway, there are new episodes airing now. Goldie Hawn was on a few weeks ago, followed by Daniel Radcliffe. Josh Brolin was on last week and Laura Linney will be featured tomorrow at 7pm EST. The week after that, Ricky Gervais is the guest in the chair.

I'll watch this based only on who the guest is. It should be someone with a lenghty body of work that you can dwell on. That being said, I think the best eps. I saw were with Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks, and Robert DeNiro.

After watching Lipton verbally fellate the cast of Will & Grace, I was done.

He even had Martin Lawrence on once. Yeah you heard me.

Still, I would have loved to check out the episode with Josh Brolin. Please tell me they talked about Doc Block.

The episode featuring Kevin Spacey was solid gold. Lipton got Kevin to do impressions of other actors for about 5 minutes and he just killed. I honestly had no idea that he was that naturally funny, and the interview itself was very interesting and informative.

This is the one show I'm ashamed to admit I love watching. That being said, Daniel Radcliffe is way too young for that chair.

Martin Lawrence was Marlon Brando compared with Dave Chapelle. It seriously felt like I was watching an SNL scetch.
No doubt they have people on that show who have no business discussing their bogus body of work.
I agree that Chapelle didn't belong there based on his body of work but the interview itself was excellent.

agreed. for a guy who has played 3 maybe 4 characters in his movie career, he belongs nowhere near this show.

I mean he does crap like martin lawrence, why cant he do Arnold or the holy grail of interviews Seagal

Amen to that. Hell, if they had Goldie on couldn't have just done one with Kurt that afternoon?

Honestly, I would love if there were a collection of in depth interviews with character/working actors a la this show, minus the sucking up. The example I always use is Adam Baldwin, who's worked with Stanley Kubrick but has also done giant monster movies.

Character people would have better stories.
Character actors also represent the experience Lipton's students are likely to face if they are successful

I'd love to see Dean Stockwell in the chair. That guys' been around forever.

The last time that Alec Baldwin was on the show (he's appeared twice -- once as skinny Baldwin in the 90s and more recently as bloated Baldwin). Anyway, he did a dual impersonation of Al Pacino. He imitated what he sounds like now and then what he used to sound like in the early-to-mid 70s. Needless to say, it was classic!

Watch Chuck for Adam Baldwin. He's great on that show!

Also, your statement made me think of Faveau's Dinner for Five on IFC. I wish that show was still on.
I watch Chuck every week. I started watching it because of two people, Schwartz and Baldwin.

What I was thinking of was a little more indepth than Dinner for Five, but that show was more insightful and informative than Actors Studio was in terms of the business and stories.

2 HOURS FOR CONAN???

Actually I'm enjoying it.

For good character actor interviews, The AV Club has a feature called "Random Roles" that has people like Jeffery Tambor and Ray Wise. Its always a real good treat to read those.
