Dumb ads

"Flashy filming. Makes no sense. Looks like a cigarette ad to me."

The first "Truth" ad at least made sense...driving around in the rich side of town of a cigarette town yelling from megaphones. Now, they're just annoying.

Sprite kinda busted with their new campaign.

The Pepsi girl has evidently spread to the theaters.

Your turn.

That fucking pepsi girl, i wish she'd be dragged out into the street and shot
That creepy old Navy lady, who is she?

Now there are also ads that are so bad/dumb that they are fun, these are basically all ads for local matteress and coat stores and car dealerships

Those f**king Truth ads piss me off so much that they actually make we want to take up smoking.

Add my name to the list of Taco Bell haters as well.

I'm sick of those damn election ads, but their shelf life is almost over thank god.

Any Calvin Klien ad pisses me off..

As do those ads for Cleo the Psychic...

Forgot about the worst one.

McDonald's new Fiesta Ads which at least 'round here in this hood seem only an excuse as to why you walk into one and never hear any English...

I will never shop at Old Navy because of those ads.
(Although that one oriental girl is damn cute. Who is she? Since Old Navy has a rep for using out-of-work actors, should there be someone that young in it?)

I hate the fxing Truth ads because they perpetrate the "I'm not responsible" way of thinking. Smokers choose to smoke, and lets be serious, has a cig ad ever made you take up smoking? Get serious! Just my 2 cents.
I also dislike the Pillsbury ad jingle that has a woman singing somethign like:
"I've missed you all day, so I'm bakin' you big ole' biscuits, my heart to yours".

I absolutely hate those constant Psychic Tarot Card readings ads starring the large black woman with the silly Jamacian accent. You can't seem to get away from them -- every goddamn other minute their they are. She looks like that fat momma of Rog's on "What's Happening?" Unless your name is Rerun and your fat ass can dance like you got a red-hot wire coat hanger up your flabby ass every time you hear that late 70s era funky music you should not be looking for personal advice on how to run your life from the momma of Rog and Dee.

Cruikshank, those would be the ads for Cleo the Angry Psychic...

Those "Truth" ads are just the most recent load of shit stuffed down the throat of the American Public.

I don't remember the details, but the jist of it is that one of the terms of the billion dollar settlement reached with the Tobacco companies a couple of years ago is that Tobacco companies would make public service commercials targeted at kids.

The flip side, of course, is that independent public service commercials couldn't be made and definitely couldn't include the real facts of smoking, the addictive nature of nicotine, the cancer, the death, and any attacks on specific tobacco companies.

Hence the euphimism used in those ads, "Big Tobacco." Corporate America doesn't give a flying fuck about the public and obviously thinks we're stupid enough to buy this charade. (From the lack of public outrage, maybe they're right.)

The "Truth" campaign, funded by Tobacco Companies, is, make no mistake, INTENDED to be INEFFICTIVE and annoying. Of course they don't want kids to stop smoking - where do you think they get their life long customers from?

Jesus Christ, I'm gonna be sick...

Has anybody else seen this new and incredibly cheap-looking commercial for the Lionel train set alarm clock? It's hysterically awful.

"Hey, Moms and Dads, how would your little Lionel train set conductor like to wake up in the mornings?"

The Discover Card commercial at the PetStore. It's a great ad for entertainment (the beagle vrs the Hyena) purposes, but the subtle message it's sending? It's more expensive to use the Discover Card, but some people know when to pay a little more.
(But we're not going to tell you WHY it's smarter to use the more expensive card)

ALL of the Geico Insurance ads make me want to evacuate. Including the fucking pretentious Gecko.

Yes, the TRUTH ads suck loudest. Especially the one where the little prick is sitting in front of mommy's computer chatting with some evil smoker then says some holy-er-than-you shit to the camera. That kid needs to be made the love-slave of a Greek Army contingent.

Whenever yoou hear someone trying to convince you of "truth" when they are being forced at gunpoint beware. It should be titled "propoganda". After all, wasn't the Ministry of Truth actually the Propoganda wing of Big Brother's government in Orwell's 1984?

I believe the idea of those ads being purposely ineffective is spot-on. Which on the surface is rather devious on the Tobbacco Companies' part, but who cares? Those who will smoke will, those who won't...won't. End of sentance, you know?

The fact that you guys are talking about these ads means they are effective. If you hate them so much, fucking change the channel.

Diva, welcome to the boards. That's a retarded statement, though. Because we're commenting on "The Truth" ads means they're "effective"? I don't get it.

The commercials for Sun Microsystems. The ones that look like trailers for movies. They just annoy the piss outta me. Im not sure why. Also (although I havent seen one in a while) the Michael Jordon/sports chic commercial that has that 'Anything you can do I can do better' thing goin' on. Its annoying. Or to me it is...

For some reasons, alot of prescription drug adds don't tell you what the drug is for. You're just supposed to ask your doctor.
I think it's a convuluted way to bring the drug to the doctor's attention.

Thanks for welcoming me.

I was simply trying to comment on all ads -- they all suck! We don't have to use or buy their products for the ads to be effctive. The fact that we know the names of these companies means we are now familiar with their product. That's the point of ads.

As for the Truth ads, I agree with devilf that it is a known fact that tobacco companies target children -- who are VERY influenced by commercials. The average age to start smoking is 12. That says something about our society and about the effectiveness of tobacco ads whether they are in magazines, tv or on billboards.

That's been a raging debate in advertising for years now..does negative press work?

My answer is simple...only if you clean up your act afterwards. Sorry, I'm still not shopping at Old Navy, no matter how inexpensive the clothes.

New McDonald's radio ad:
"Nothing wakes you up in the morning like the smell of freshly baked bagels. I know. Because I make them...."

So, in other words, you don't wake up until you get to work and start making them. That must be you I keep getting stuck behind doing 20mph on the highway onramp at 5:30 in the morning.

Here's something interesting: Subway's harping on using their sandwhiches causes weight loss, yet their stores have fixed benches and tables that all of the people pictured in the ads couldn't have sat in. (I noticed Jarrod always goes outside and eats on the park bench.)
