I enjoyed the show, and am looking forward to Patrick's inclusion. Hey Zod, I watched X-Files!

pretty solid episode.

This season shows promise already. Why?
It's tradition not only for X-files to have cliffhangers joining seasons, but for the season premier to only be vaguely connected; in fact, the opening teaser usually has NOTHING to do with what we've seen before (bees and telephone poles come to mind).
Not so in this case. The whole episode moved, was rarely vague, and had that sense of urgency that, combined with the cinematography, somehow manages to make the best X-files eps look more worthy of a cinematic suspense film than most actual suspense films.
For the first time in years I've been impressed by a season opener for the X-Files.
(And yes, I'm a major fan. I usually just don't like the first ep)

Yes , Great opener.

The "mulder" walking around gotta be a shapeshifter!

Yeah, they gave it away in one of the promos.

I liked it. Mulder got some chop-soey action on the ship.

Did you notice that Scully was wearing that same outfit from the first season? Kinda a back to their roots type thing to start out the new season.

Very solid. I haven't been able to bring myself to watch this for the past two seasons, but the show definitely feels like it's moving in a good direction. I'll be there next week.

On a side note, Futurama was pretty good (I expect more from this show, and I look forward to it more than just about anything on TV), King of The Hill was very good, and the Simpsons was disappointing.

BTW, Nick, what does "doused" mean in this case? He's a wet fish?
Well maybe he was talking about when Scully dumped her water on him.
I was. I typed that as it happened on the show.

great episode. i think this season has a lot of promise with new chemistry and a more coherent driving theme behind the episodes to replace the hunt for samantha (ie, the hunt for mulder). at times robert patrick looked like lance hendrikson to me, but he came off very well in this first episode. looking forward to next week.

One of the things the show excels at is knowing how to shoot the actors. The lighting on them is always top notch. Robert Patrick, in most movies, seems to be lit hot & harsh from the top to emphasise his cheekbones, but they tended to choose a warmer, softer side angle to make his eyes glow and generally make him look calmer & cooler.
X-files has a visual style that may be copied, but is somehow never duplicated, much like the sound of Pink Floyd.

Well said, Coyote.

And I love how they stay true to their original format. I mean, the lighting and style of the show is just the same now as it was 8 years ago.

Zod just pointed out what's wrong with this thread. We all like the show. No one has said it sucks.
Pardon me, I'm going to go create an alt to bitch about Scully's dye job....

What's wrong with a little change in hair color? Ever since I started watching the X-Files my hair has slowly been changing to a rich auburn...

I, um, was kidding about Scully's hair. As for anything wrong with dyeing...I think I've dated maybe 3 girls who even know what their natural haircolour is, anymore.
