I have very high hopes on the return of this show. The cast led by oscar nominated actors Edward James Olmos and Mary McDonnell inspires confidence in me that this will be more successful that the original show. The word around the production is that they feel confident that this will go to series. If it does go to series, this will be the rebirth of a franchise.
The screenplay that I have read is one Hugo Award winning screenwriter Ron Moore's best pieces of work to date. The Battlestar Galactica story has been turned into from a very campy and simple show to a very hardnosed and very realistic show.
In many ways, this an 180 degre turn from the original. The producers Ron Moore and David Eick have disposed of the original Cylon designs and commissioned Eric Chu to come up with a new robotic Cylon and a totally new look for the Cylon spaceships.
In time we will know if this new more realistic approach to Battlestar Galactica will work. I think it will and it may rival Star Trek as a television franchise.
