Video Game Draft FAQ

Just to make sure that I catch all questions and that everybody knows what to do, this is also the thread for additional questions this weekend so that when the beginning of the draft rolls around on Monday, we all know what to do and when to do it.

Here's a primer:

Q: What is the CHUD Video Game Draft and how does it work?
A: It is like ANY draft. A select number of particpants each have a turn in a round. The order of who gets to go is pre-determined by the Commish, and that order stays the same for every round. So if I say you get the 3rd pick, you get to pick 3rd every round, unless you want to trade your pick to someone else.

Trades are only allowed after the 5th round. There are 10 rounds in total.

So what are we picking? Videogames. Any system. Any era. If it's a game, it's eligible. Even import games.

The only stipulations are that you CANNOT pick entire franchises like Final Fantasy, NOR can you pick the exact same game if it's on another platform (e.g. if BloodRayne on Xbox gets picked, you cannot pick the PS2 version). That also means if the arcade version of a game gets picked, it is GONE. No home versions are eligible after that.

If you pick a game that is a remake of a past game (e.g. Metroid Fusion is almost identical to Super Metroid on the Super Nintendo), I'll make judgment calls on an individual basis as to whether I will allow them or not.

I'm also reserving the right to make judgment calls on Street Fighter 2 games. There is a difference between say Street fighter 2 Alpha and SF2 EX, but I won't allow splitting hairs to the point where people are picking Street Fighter 2 Turbo Championship when it's virtually the same game as Street Fighter 2.

As I said...I'll have to make judgment calls from time to time, and the commish's word goes. If you have a problem with something I decree, then Private Message me, and we'll discuss it.

I'll also be participating, but rest assured like past commishs who participated (Nick), I won't be playing favorites (even to myself). As far as the order, it'll be randomly decided, so don't whine if I'm high up in the order.

Once we have all the participants, you'll be given a pre-determined time to pick.

If you have any other questions, post them here along with your signup info or Private Message me.

Q: How do you win?
A: Simply by picking the most games that most people love the most. You're welcome to just pick obscure games that you like. But if you want to WIN, you must pick a balanced list with classics and recent games that everyone and their momma will go "Oooooh! Damn, I should've grabbed that!"

Q: How many games can I pick per round?
A: One game per pick. You each have one pick a round UNLESS you make a trade after round 5 - when trades are allowed - to acquire another pick that same round. Then you could have two picks that round.

Q: What if I cannot be there when my pick is scheduled?
A: Email or private message me, and I'll see to it that your pick is posted at the appropriate time. PLEASE make sure you include an alternate choice in case your pick gets chosen in the interim between when you email it to me and when you are scheduled to make your pick.

Q: What if I want to or need to leave/drop out of the draft?
A: If this is the case, DO NOT ANNOUNCE IT HERE ON THE BOARDS. Email or private message me, and I will handle it. Your picks will be released for others to draft at the beginning of the round AFTER you drop out.

Q: ANything else I need to know?
A: Yes. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE specify the plaform (Arcade, PC, NeoGeo, NES, PS2, Atari Lynx, Vetrex, etc.) when you make your choice.

Question: Since we're coming up on holiday season lots of games will be released while the draft is running, will these games become available for draft as they are released?

As long as the game has actually been RELEASED FOR SALE - either in America or abroad - at some point or another, it is eligible.

If it comes out the day after the draft ends, too bad.

So do we all vote who has the best list or is the "winner" just a general consensus?

Curiously were/are pin ball games eligable for drafting? Some of them have become such video/pin-ball game hybrids I wasn't sure.
