Have at it!
well, there it is... i chose halo, and in doing so, i realize that being number 1 doesn't have as big as an advantage as i thought it would. there are so many games worthy of a number 1... this one just fit my strategy best. good luck, all!
i didn't expect starcraft to go as a number 2 pick. sweet... it's one of my ultimate favorite games... good job cesar.

Indeed. The field is so wide, EVERYBODY should have a classic as their number one draft pick.
Well, GTA Vice City is going to be a lot of people's "must have" game by the end of this week once everyone's played it, so I consider this a long-term choice. I have plenty of tactical classics up my sleeve, but I thought I should nab Vice City before it went.

Excellent idea, and like Halo, I hadn't planned on taking it, but I surely couldn't let it pass by if it was available at pick #9.
I do wonder though if it's really interesting to pick a game you've never played, basically picking it for prestige alone (not that I think that Vice City is gonna be anything less than fantastic).

Excitement mounting! Confidence wavering!

It does kinda feel like picking Citizen Kane as "Favourite Film" though. Almost too obvious to mean anything. Vice City kicks a ton of ass, but I've got a lot more personal picks lined up.

Well, I picked up the new EGM, and their series of full-length reviews, all of which rated it a perfect 10, pretty much had me sold, not to mention I know the game is very similar to Grand Theft Auto 3, which should be going any time now as well.

It has prestige to be sure, but it's TIMELY strategic prestige, as everyone should be well into the game by the time the draft concludes, and will probably give a lot of props to the guy who owns it when it comes to voting time.

Thanks Mikah, for posting for me.

Ah, I made it in time after all but there was not guarantee that I was going to make it ot my hotel room in time.
I was one pick away from getting Vice City....damn you Whitehead!!
I thought it'd be the first to go, to be honest. Halo would've been my second choice.
i'm the only human who hasn't played gta3.
I like Vice City as a pick, but I thought it might last a while longer. I know it is going to be great, but most people have'nt gotten their hands on it yet and as such I'd have a hard time picking it over Halo.
Nice pick by Dan. I'm sure it's great, but I won't know until Christmas.

I thought of another question, which I'll post here because I'm lazy. Are collections such as the Namco Museum series eligible?

NO.

One game. One pick. No compilations.
Nice Verbal, I still kick up Half-Life every once in a while. Great combination of story, atmosphere, and action.
...up until you got to Xen that is.
Nice pick, Burke. UT was on my short list for today.

Many, many hours spent at the office slaughtering co-workers.

Oh, man...that was one of my faves, too.

There are few joys as great as when you have a sniper rifle, lots of ammo, and a nice perch to murder from on CTF-Facing Worlds.
Am I the only one who likes the original better than UT 2k3?
You guys are speaking to me!

No one beats me on Face with the sniper rifle, but I prefer the shock rifle combo from long range.

No...it IS better. I like 2K3 a good bit, but it does pale in comparison.

[Note to self: Next time you, as the commish, accidentally leave Burke out of a draft, make sure it STAYS that way!]
I think one of 2k3's problems is that it's too damn fast.

Chasm was the best ctf map I've played...all the goods of facing worlds combined with some close combat craziness via the war torn buildings.
UT2003 is too much like Quake for my tastes... so far.

UT was pretty fast too, but not quite THAT fast.

After having played Halo (comparatively slow, but way more realistic) for so long, it was a real re-adjustment going to UT2K3.

I don't get much out of the deathmatch in 2K3 (nor did I really in UT), but I think the CTF maps are pretty good and are the game's crowning jewel.

They just need to retweak the weapons a little, too.

But overall, I still think it's a good game.

You know, I had totally forgotten about those levels. After the initial playthrough, I always stop playing at Xen.

Micah, I've PM'ed you a question regarding my first round pick.

I think Deathmatching was great in the early years of multiplayer, but now gamers expect more from an FPS. Look at Halo for example. Sure its okay going solo, but the team angle is much more fun. There's something so right in being able to scream at teammates as well as opponents.

Note: This post would've had a much more compelling argument, had I been able to list the games that I still hold a hope of drafting soon.

Deathmatching was fine before team communication, CTF and sniper rifles enteres the FPS picture. Once those elements appeared, it was comparatively boring to just run around shooting everyone and everything ina frenzy.

We do occasional deathmatch rounds in Halo to get warmed up, btu I believe everyone in the CHUD ATlanta Halo group pretty much prefers Team Deathmatch.

We tried CTF, but there were too many complaints from CTF newbies about how hard it was to capture the flag, so we went back to Team Deathmatch, which is no problem for me, since Halo has two of the best maps ever for that (Blood Gulch and Sidewinder).

I got my number one. I'm happy.

Doesn't the person who's turn it is have the whole half hour to make their pick? It seems that there has early drafting.

They do, but once the next person's half-hour arrives, we can zoom along as fast as we like, assuming that everyone continues to draft in sequence.

So Otis and Adam McAllister completely missed their draft periods. They can catch up at ANYTIME from this point onward (and hopefully they'll do it tonight, so we don't have any stragglers going into Day 2.)

In the meantime, we can't afford to wait. I trust you've seen past drafts where the first round drags on for almost a week because people sign up and forgoet their pick is coming and or just go MIA alltogether while the draft stagnates and people get testy.

THAT is why there is a schedule in EVERY single round, and it was posted well-ahead of time. If you couldn't be here to make your pick, you had AMPLE opportunity to email your pick and alternates to me, and I announced just as much last week.
Cheers to Gemini for picking Ocarina. I thought it would go in the first few rounds, but not so soon. Well, that's one off my possible picks.

Well, I'll just be sitting here, waiting my turn and bitching about how other stole my picks.
Please chalk up my early comments about early drafting up to lysdexia.
After much deliberation I've finally decided on my first round choice. Let's hope it lasts another two hours.
Hey, I got caught up at work and missed my 1:00 slot. I just jump in with my pick anytime now though correct?
Correct.
Conker's...I never have played that game. And now I can't find it anywhere in town. I'm told it's a lot of fun.
I was going to hold it for my #2 but after some thought decided that it was good enough for a first round draft just on how original the story is.
Conker is easily one of the funniest games I've ever played. The game could have just been one long gimmick of "Look! He's a cute squirrel! But look at all the disgusting shit we put in!" However, the gameplay is good and the game is wickedly clever, especially the movie references.
