Mario Kart 64 is a good game, but I think the original is much better simply because it's more challenging. Seriously, Mario Kart is almost cheap because if you're not playing as them, Mario and Luigi can turn invincible at will.

Glad to see Boomstick is feeling the full force of hot red hatred for taking Mario Kart (even in it's inferior N64 incarnation).

Nick's right though, Crash Team Racing is the undervalued overlord of the cartoon cart racing genre. Its battle mode beats all.

Although Halo now reigns as the best console multiplayer FPS, I can't remember a game before Goldeneye that made the genre so popular. Sure, online shit like Quake or whatnot was popular, but was there anything before Goldeneye on a console that had such great multiplayer FPS?

GoldenEye proved - finally - that a FPS could work on a console. Halo and TimeSplitters 2 may have it beat, but without GoldenEye they probably wouldn't exist.

My friend ordered this game when it first came out, and we must have sat for a week waiting for that damn UPS truck to arrive. And then we finished the game in a marathon weekend where we must have played for 36 hours straight, alternating time between four of us on two computers set up at my friend's house.

Without this game, there's no Fallout, and therefore no Baldur's Gate, and therefore probably the death of straightforward computer RPGs.

And sorry I reduced your list to thin red paste!

Virgil, while I think Xenogears a great game, it's far from being the best on PlayStation. The game has numerous flaws. It needed more anime cut scenes, the location transistions were terrible, the fighting got incredibly repetitive and boring, some areas where mazes but without the fun of exploration, and the game totally fell apart at the end.
