VIDEO GAME DRAFT - Round Two Discussion - Page 3

What made you change your mind Dan?
Me and the wife were in Vegas a few months back and every casino arcade had at least two or three dance dance machines. I never did gather up the balls to get on one.

Yes, I acknowledge that it is sad that I visited EVERY arcade in EVERY casino on the strip.

The following people are now on my list to kill:
ASoze
Agent 86
Dan

You have been warned. You better lock up tight tonight.

So many draft picks taken...
Death to Cheese Biscuits, spread the word.

My hopeful third rounder, the beloved Contra, stolen.
You know...I don't think I'd ever want to play Dance Dance Revolution, but it's really fun to watch people who know what they're doing play it.
Okay Pinch-a-Loaf, the brute squad is on the way.

Hell yeah it is. There were two girls dueling it out that couldn't have been more than ten. They had a huge crowd around them watching the combo meter go off the roof. It was pretty damn amazing how fast there feet were moving.

BITCHES VOTE. I'm about to lay my card down.
Damn you ASoze, you chose my pick for Doom. I was so suprised it took this long for someone to chose this game and was hoping it wouldn't be gone. What do I see when I get home, Doom chosen by you damn it! Now I must kill you.
Am I the only one enjoying Dan's story so far? I look forward to future installments...as long as they don't conflict with my plans.

I dunno...seems kinda anticlimactic after I went with Civ II...
Excellent choice, Billylove. It was a last minute call for me b/w Super Mario Bros. and Civilization. Civ I is certainly the best among the three.
Matt,I think your pick of Super Mario All-Stars is ineligible.

he's just picked Super Mario 1. But the All-Stars version w/ enhanced graffix.

Why? I checked and I saw that in terms of Mario, only Mario Bros 3, Super Mario 64, and Super Mario World were taken. I picked the All-Stars VERSION of Super Mario Bros. 1 because the graphics are better and there's a save feature. I didn't pick the entire All-Stars Games.
Okay, my bad, I thought you picked the whole compilation.

86, why'd you jump the gun?
Because Micah hadn't read my PM to post my pick, and I wasn't able to post about 15 minutes later than I did. You see I posted a quarter of a hour before my scheduled time. Anyway, Ludwig (the one before my scheduled time) didn't end up drafting, no harm done.
And Samurai grabs another good one....
I'd been waiting in anticpation for Samurai's pick and was ultimately underwhelmed, but that's because I'm not a PC gamer. I'm just glad he didn't pick my 3rd round selection.

Elf needs FOOD!

Nice nab, Kirby, I was eyeing Gauntlet for a bit later.

Yeah, but I played the crap out of Civ 1, and was bored when I got to Civ 2. To each his own I guess.
Civ 1 was my favorite. I played the DOS version, and despite (or maybe, because of) the graphics, it was still a fun game to play. Actually, how about "Emp-- Whoops. Must keep fingers restrained.
My first pick wasn't Diablo, it was my second choice. The first pick was Doom which the little bastard by the name of ASoze chose already.
By the way, how do you guys feels about picking another game in a series in which one game has already been drafted? For instance, say I pick Super Castlevania after SOTN has been picked, don't you think it's a bit..well, less on the creative side?

I say that, because there's one game that I want to pick which predecessor has been chosen and I wonder if it's not better to just say fuck it and go for originality.
Not to think I'm hot stuff, but I think I know which game you're shooting for. Heh. I personally think that you should go for an original game. As much as I was tempted to pick some sequel/prequel, I've decided against it. But that's just my opinion.
GREAT picks so far everyone. So many memories...

I am super-happy to have gotten Pool of Radiance...those SSI gold-box games were the best!

I think you're aight, Blunt - there are plenty of series that are worth plenty of picks in this draft. Pick *ten good video games*, that's it
post #128 of 139
I just pick games I like, whether they be "original" or "creative" or not. Fallout was already taken, but with Fallout 2 on board, I'm just as happy as I like the sequel just as much as the original.

Everyone has their own drafting style. Poxy, Ludwig and billylove, for example, are taking games that pioneered their genres. Kirby is taking coin-up classics and Dan is reminescing about killer games that colored his stay in Japan.
Others just take the best game that they like that is available. Remember, with 10 rounds and over 300 games to be drafted, everyone's list is bound to have a few sequels or similar titles. It's the quality over 10 rounds of drafting that counts in the end.
Haveing a drafting style is half the fun. Usually, I like to nab a draftee from every genre, so I cover all the bases. I'd like to do that here (and so far, I am... but if I get away with what I'm planning to draft next round, that will sort of change...). But, just so you know, I'm choosing games I grew up playing and have some kind of memory attached to... so it's unlikely I'll draft any recent games... but, I'm a bastard, so you never know.
I'm picking games closest to my gaming heart. The ones that I have the most fond memories of spending hours playing.....
I'm just trying to pick the best games from my list of about 40 or so. I tried picking the games that meant the most to me, but some bastards needed to have the same tastes in games.

Ditto. Can't believe I don't have Tecmo SB though frown
post #133 of 139
My drafting style is to come up with a sort of "Desert Island wishlist". If I were trapped on a desert island (with consoles, TV's and electricity, obviously) which are the ten games I'd want to have for long-term entertainment before I started talking to volleyballs and gouging my teeth out with an ice skate?
My drafting is more about what games I LOVED during my childhood. Unless I have to, I am trying to go oldschool...

Oops, I just revealed my strategy.

Come to think of it, Baldur's Gate 2 in round 1 wasn't an RPG pioneer, but a pinnacle. My saying this was residual steam from your THEFT of Wasteland in round 2. Grrrrr.

(Edited to add "Grrr" for emphasis. I am going to make it my mission in this draft to have my revenge...)

Micah, check your PM's.

Rampage, I hardly knew ye...

My drafting plan is simple...go for games I have always enjoyed playing. My next selection, should it still be available at 5:30, is another game that I LOVE and would be sad if it's taken from me.

yo, let's get 3 started!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
