VIDEO GAME DRAFT- Round Three Discussion

Hope I'm not out of place starting up the new discussion thread...

Anyhoo, I was wondering if anyone was going to make a play for Pong. I'm surprised it's going so early.
i hope i don't get killed for starting a thread for round 3... i just felt i needed to keep it moving.

i couldn't wait any longer... i was going to wait another round, but i'd kick myself for not getting it if i missed out.

my childhood was filled with pong.
Pong was on my list!
Guys...you're MORE than welcome to start threads for each round.

The whole reason I posted a schedule for every day and a detailed FAQ was to make this draft self-sufficient.

If I'm doing my job as commish right, you should NOT be seeing me doing a bunch of stuff. I should be able to sit back, watch the wheels turn with some guidance here or there, and we should be able to enjoy this as is.

So feel free to start picture threads, discussion threads, or whenever WHEN THE TIME IS RIGHT.

You know when that is. You're big boys. You know when to draft and what the rules are. I'm always open for questions.

Aside from that...I'll see you in the discussion threads as you bastards steal picks from me left and right.

Nice, Boomstick. Way to kick it as old skool as possible without choosing an etch-e-sktch.

I figured you were too busy debating AOTC dialogue to get threads rolling this morning, Micah, so I decided to lend a hand.

I most certainly was.

Have a foaming mug of near-grog and remember the days when Lucasarts made games, and not interactive adverts for Star Wars!
Funny. As I've said, I'm not a PC gamer, but the 30 minutes I spent in Future Shop playing LucasArts' Full Throttle years ago sure was fun.
I'm up, right?
Dan, are we working off the same list ? First Goldeneye, now Monkey Island 2 ?! Seriously, you always seem to grab my next picks before I can you dirty devil.

Oh well, I guess great minds think a like... wink
post #11 of 84
And Full Throttle, while a great game, is far from Lucas Arts' best.

Ooh, nice pick, Burke. I have many a memory of going over to my best friend's house and spending hours working on Metal Gear together.

Shit. I had that one in mind as well. This "great minds" thing is starting to freak me out. I may have to choose "Power Rangers: Lightspeed Rescue" just to break the cycle...
Never played Virtua Tennis but I have number 2 for DC and it kicks ass, even for a non-tennis fan like me.

"Although playing required blowing into the cartridge like a crazed hooker Dragon Warrior NES"

Hahahahaha.... those were the days.

I remember one day having to conjure nearly gale force winds with my lungs for an hour or so just to get Rush'N Attack to play on my NES.

Those were the days.

The second half of Round 3 starts Monday, not Saturday, right?
Mikah, you bastard! I thought, nay I knew! that Gn'G was mine...

To sum up, good pick there sir...

Yes.

NO WEEKEND DRAFTING AT ALL. 'Tis strictly forbidden, so says I.

Rush'N Attack ! Oh man, that brings back fond memories. First game I ever played on NES and one of my favourites.

Someone else is welcome to it. It's a great game, but I don't think I need more than one side-scroller although that may change.

i fuckin' hated russin' attack. take it, please. i sucked at that game... a game where you only got a knife to start with... and those fucking dogs.

HA HA!

It was a challenge at first, but the game just got better with time.

Now I remember what this is, thanks Boomstick. I knew the title and I knew it was something I played a lot of but I couldn't think of the gameplay at all.

Nothing like starting off to a MIDI air raid siren and the martial snare drums keeping time as you ran to the right and killed everything you came across.
It is sad how many games on the list that I have only experienced through reading the back of the box at EB. My home computer is a fat pile-o-crap.

Same here, otis.

Rush'N Attack. Ahh, the memory of going to Little Big Man Pizza, playing a round or two of Pole Position to warm up and then heading straight to the 'Attack. Great game.
blunt, you're a dick-smack. i love that game... it was supposed to be a forgotten title that everyone loved... that i loved.

blunt... you drink your own pee.

We used to ride our bikes down to a little strip mall nearby. There was an Army Surplus store that only had three games but they were always the best ones out. I can't actually recall anyone ever making a purchase at the store though. Always just a small group of kids bunched up by the front window playing games.
ONE POINT!

I completely sucked at Karate Champ so that was always my excuse for not liking it.

That's my understanding, too.

Regarding my selection this round...I love the original and N64 StarFox games dearly. I think the difficulty level was much higher for the original and I think it's great to play through, but I just have more fun with '64 even though I can play through on one Arwing. The mission variety is better, there's multiplayer, and I'll admit I think the rumble pak is a fun gimmick.

I hate you Waco.....so very very much.

Sans theme, that would have been my first round, Guyute. It burnt me out on Hawk, but I'll be damned if that wasn't the greatest game of all time.

I got 2.8 million on one trick in France, and realized I had a problem.
4.6mil in the hangar over here. I had more fun with 2 but 3 and 4 are far superior games. THPS4 is the only game that gets more play than GTA:VC right now.
Yup one trick. My best in Hawk 3 is 35mil in a combo. Thing is that isn't even considered all that good.
That theme that I said I didn't have? I decided it sounded pretty good, and besides, I can't remember how many hours we spent huddled around my friend's Commodore 64 praying that the fight we were 4 to 6 underdogs in would go our way.
I've private messaged him about it, but Gemini's PSO pick is most certainly illegal as it is a compilation of two separate PSO games on Dreamcast.

He must pick again.
I liked THPS3, but was really dissappointed in the levels..most of them sucked. THPS4 is, in my opinion, the best in the series, but 2 will always hold a special place in my heart. Just like Kid Icarus.
Blunt, as much as I respect your love for games, especially adventure games, I intend to eviscerate your intestines then tightly wrap them around your neck and genitals, while I eat my S'mores in the campfire as I watch you slowly turn blue from the burning tree branch you're hanging on.

"Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis" is a superb game -- actually, superb 3 games in one! Great job, but may you rot in the fiery pit of...France!
Nice public proclaiming of fury there Voltes.

(I'm so happy I've finally managed to piss someone of).
Thanks. Although I think I may have gone a bit overdramatic there.
Actually, PSO for GC is has the DC's original four levels and four new levels created for the GC version. It's basically akin to THPS3 including levels from 1 and 2, only you don't have to unlock these. The second DC PSO had no new levels, only a battle mode and better security. Mikah, it's your call, but it's really a whole new game with the old one included.

From what I can gather, it's a sticky situation because every Phantasy Star Online release after the first one had elements of its predecessor involved.

Alas...I can't allow it. It's a slippery slope, and it just opens the door for other compilations.

You already amended your pick to regular PSO for the DC, so let's keep it that way.
Yeah, the PSO games are like the Gold and Platinum Editions of Half-Life (or any PC game), I guess. Small improvements all over the place. This does put all other PSO games out, though, right?

Guyute - its what you deserve for making me wait til 4:30 each day to pick wink

I suppose I'm the only one who thinks Kid Icarus kicks Metroid ass in game design and play style? Never underestimate how popular blowing-shit-up is, I guess wink

I honestly did not think that Kid Icarus would go so soon, but figured Metroid would be among the first. I guess that strategy worked out real well, didn't it?
