What's your favorite Nicolas Cage film character ?

What (and why) is your personal favorite Nicolas Cage film character so far and what aspect of the character or Nic's portrayal of him, do you most admire, compared to the numerous other ones he's played.

Stanley Goodspeed from The Rock. In fact, after that film I never saw him in anything that made me really like him (although Adapatation looks to change that).

Ronny Cammareri in Moonstruck.

His portrayal of the conflicted soul whose life is changed by one woman is really fantastic.

One of his best roles to date and it makes his roles in films like Con Air and Face Off look like shit.

Hated his movies these past few years, but am looking forward to Adaptation.

His performance as H.I. in Raising Arizona remains his shining moment, the moment of greatness he'll likely never come close to attaining again.

I'd have to agree about H.I. He's an everyman. No matter how tough things were (due to Reagan and all) he still offers useful parenting advice:

I tried to stand up and fly straight, but it wasn't easy with that son' bitch Reagan in the White House.

And this here's the TV. Two hours a day, either educational or football, so you don't ruin your appreciation of the finer things.

Sailor Ripley in Wild At Heart.
I think that character is sort of like all the best bits that Cage does, rolled into one. He's crazy and fun and Elvis-like in that role, and I can't imagine anyone else playing it as convincingly. It was a silly character in a movie full of silly characters, but Cage played it so earnestly.

Editing because I just remembered The Adventures of Tiny Elvis, which amused the hell out me and gets honorable mention, even though it's stupid.

I still love Nick Cage and can't wait for "Adaptation". Hopefully he'll show more signs of wisening up on his choice of roles soon.

#1) Sailor Ripley in "Wild At Heart"
#2) H.I. in "Raising Arizona"
#3) Ben Sanderson in "Leaving Las Vegas"
#4) Peter Loew in "Vampire's Kiss"
#5) Little Junior Brown in "Kiss of Death"
#6) Ronny Cammareri in "Moonstruck"
#7) Frank Pierce in "Bringing Out the Dead"

I thought that he was entertaining in "Face Off".

He was great in "Bringing Out the Dead".

His role in "Con Air" is just funny to me because I don't think of Nick in the Stallone/Jean Claude/Arnold/Seagal category.

What bothers me is that he has been in one mediocre action/thriller after another plus he has been in too many romantic or feel-good films that are unwatchable - just to name a few of the stankers...
"Family Man"
"City of Angels"
"It Could Happen to You"
"Guarding Tess"

I had completely forgotten about "Tiny E." That was great. H.I. is my toss in, though.

My favorite Cage performance as of right now is that of Frank Pierce in Bringing Out The Dead. He seems so perfect for the role. Every line seems to be delivered perfectly for me. I have yet to see Raising Arizona and Wild At Heart, so I'm looking forward to those.

"Con Air" used to be my favorite, as it's basically Cage doing his impression of Elvis in a Jerry Bruckheimer movie...and it surprisingly works.

But then I saw "Raising Arizona." A classic.

Peter Loew in "Vampire's Kiss"

Alva! Allllva? Am I getting through to you ... Alva?

Sailor. Easy.

I loved Cage as the bad guy in Face/Off. I thought the first 15 minutes were the best, when Cage was the bad guy. When they switched, I was pissed, because I thought Cage was soooo much better as the villian than Travolta.

But my fave role was Junior from Kiss of Death. Maybe I'm biased, but I love to see Cage as the bad guy. He's got this look and attitude when he's pissed that gives him this presence.

Junior has my vote.

Leaving Las Vegas. Why? Great performance.

I enjoyed Raising Arizona and Moonstruck, and look forward to Adaptation. I've seen some of his other films, but I honestly don't care for him as a romantic lead.

Like .... Oh my God....Randy in Valley Girl!!! I loved that movie when I was a kid. I still to this day enjoy watching it when I find my VHS copy I made from HBO...SIGH : )

Face Off is my second favorite.

....apparently no one here ever bothered to watch Birdy....maybe not his greatest character, but as a movie, it rips off The Rock's head and craps down its neck.

nascartv, I totally support your love of Valley Girl. It is my favorite NC movie of all, but that wasn't my favorite performance.

I still don't care for Nic as a lead in a romance film, but I loved this story about opposites attracting, and he was good in it. I can never remember the name of the female lead in that movie when I want to, but she looks exactly like my brother's ex girlfriend.

Instead of editing, I'll clarify. I keep saying performance when I mean character portrayal. In a way it's the same, but not quite. Sorry.
