VIDEO GAME DRAFT - Round Ten Discussion

Bring 'er on home, fellas.

Das final round.....
I'll tell ya, i'm stumped. Gonna take a little bit longer to think about this one.
I've had my Round 10 pick chosen since the beginning of the draft- a game that is a classic to me, but I believe is virtually unknown to the rest of the universe. But I must say I'm surprised at the number of great games still left on my list of potentials. I think that's because of all the PC games that have been drafted.
i think that i have the ultimate pick. granted, i know that it'll divide the crowd, half will say what the fuck, and half will (hopefully) realize it for the genious pick that it is...

now nobody go and fucking take it....

This is exactly what I've done.

CHAOS: The Battle Of The Wizards is the finest strategy game ever written. It's deceptively simple, but repeated play reveals amazing depth. And all in a program smaller than the average JPEG.

If anyone else has heard of this game, you are my friend for life. If you've never heard of this game and I've piqued your interest, here's some links where you can download the ROM version. The author of the game (Julian Gollop, who went on to create Laser Squad and work on the X-COM series) has made it public domain.

Yes, my pick is the same way, except I believe the amount of "What the fuck?" reactions will be greater. If you go before me, then your game had better not me mine! If you're after me, then the day is mine.

Micah, you got my PM, correct?

You go before me. oh please oh please oh please not mine.
oh praise the heavens it wasn't mine, Gemini. Though I must say that Samba made my shortlist...but since I've never played it, i was just going off reputation, and I wasn't sure whether to take it.
Great pick with Zaxxon mikah, just one more of many games that have popped up that had been completely wiped from my memory over the years.
It's maraca-rific!
i luv me some Earthworm Jim, but after the sequel got picked, i felt that taking the original would be moot, even though I like the original better. Oh, and it was better on Genesis .
Micah, are you coming to the Bond film tonight?

What does that have to do with the video game draft?

If you are coming tonight I'm kicking your ass for the Zaxxon pick.
Alright, who picked Earthworm Jim 2? Because I checked the lists and didn't see it ANYWHERE. If someone did indeed take it, i'd like to rescind my pick.

Confessor took EJ2 in ROUND FOUR.

Why rescind?
Damn you Mikah! ZAXXON was to be mine! Oh well, I got to pick my favorite console fighter instead...yay for me!
KI Gold. NICE. That was my back-up fighter selection. The only things I take issue with on that game are the lack of announcer and the way you have to finish the final boss. I spent many, many hours with this game throughout the time the N64 occupied a slot in my entertainment center.
Skuljagger...does ANYONE know this game? You battle pirates taking advantage of all the magical bubblegum littered along the various environments. Sounds dumb, but it was much deeper. The instruction manual was a 90-page novella/hint book that you NEEDED to find all the hidden areas and treasure. It took the whole "easter egg" gimmick to a new level and also featured branching game paths and alternate endings (if I remember correctly). The gameplay was relatively basic, but the mountains of secrets were the game's saving grace. The graphics were rather sharp, if simple, and it featured one of the best scores I remember in a SNES game.

Sadly, I do not own the game. Ignoring the fact that I was an poor, unemployed high school freshman, it was so expensive the parents wouldn't pop for it for my birthday or any other gift-giving holiday.

Killer Instinct Gold. The only game where you can do one hit on someone, and then trigger an unstoppable 586-hit combo to end the match without them even knowing what hit them.
Naaaaaah there's also Marvel vs Capcom 2.
Blunt, is there anywhere I can download a copy of Loom? At all? I bet it's hard to find.
Verbal, you can get it here
Cool, thanks a lot.
Well no wonder the files weren't working, that link is only a patch to the floppy version. Dang....

Oh well...
Shit sorry man, hadn't noticed that. Well, you can always try doing a google search for "Loom abandonware". If that fails, I think you can order a pack with floppy versions of Loom, Zack McCracken, Indiana Jones and Monkey Island on LucasArts website for 20$.

No problem, you didn't know.

Yeah, I may do that. Not like those games aren't worth it and there are a few in some of their packs that I haven't played, or don't have anymore.

I remember the game fondly. I unfortunately didn't think of it in time though..alas...
Unfortunately, "Loom" is still not abandonware (but there's probably one out there). I also visited Lucasarts' website and they don't seem to be selling it anymore. I will have to dig through my floppy-disk-based games and see if I have it in hand.
Wow. Impressive. Which character did you use for that. I think the best I did was around 130 or something like that.
Well, I guess I'll be the first one to say this, but I have had a great time with this draft. This has been the first one that I have been a part of, and I must say, it is a lot more fun that I thought it could be. I am simply amazed by everyone's taste in videogames, and how closely they mirror mine. Kudos to everyone on their lists (except for the fuckers that took my games...Kid Icarus belongs to me! ).

Here's to a great time had in the Sewer, once again.
Micah, you have a PM. And maybe it's from me.

Flyers, that is a BRILLIANT pick that I will be honored to make for you. I wish I could say more, but I don't want to tip anyone off to it.

It's a very personal game for me and a whole lot of people, I would guess.
The suspense is killing me!

(But I don't think anyone can beat the sheer weirdness of my pick.
Sir Pinch, a clever and unique pick. Wish I would have thought of that one. Kudos.
I'd like to applaude Confessor, Sir Pinch, and Goose for three great picks. At this point, I would normally curse alot and wish terrible deaths upon all of you, but I know what game I want to be my final pick. The chewer who takes it from me will suffer more pain than what comes from playing my third-round pick.

"killer combo" "massive combo" "ULTRA COMBO!"
My first CHUD draft, had fun, hope to be included in some more!
my first draft, too, hopefully not my last. while i feel pretty good about my draftlist, and had a slight advantage with being 1st pick, damn, you guys all made some GREAT lists. i'm humbled.
Great pick Cheese..that was going to be mine, but then I remembered KI:Gold.
Can't wait to see what Flyers picked.

I'm kinda disappointed with my final pick, but it's not like I was really trying to win this thing. I do hope my list is strong enough but I had such a great time doing this, it doesn't even matter. Didn't realize something like this could be so much fun. I'm gonna be in every draft from here on in.

And credit to Micah for one hell of a job.

How is the winner chosen?

Voting.

It's a sin Golden Axe lasted until the final round. I contemplated taking that game for so long I decided to not take it, if that makes sense. Great pick.

I second that. Bravo, Micah.
Thanks Micah, for the vigilance...

As for Golden Axe, I thought of it in the car today, but immediately discounted it saying, "There's no way it's still available." Came back to check, lo and behold, there it is...
I picked the best strategy, War, and first Person shooters I could think of. All I needed was my most played Racer.

I picked San Francisco Rush Extreme Racing.

If you haven't ever played it, please do. Damn fun. And this is the only game I know of that you can almost fly in the car.
I picked the best FPS ever, IMHO, and the best CRPG ever, IMHO. So hopefully that's worth something. A lot of other gems, too.

But heck, we ALL have gems.
