Most Brutal Beatings

Thread Starter
What are the most painful ass-whuppins put on screen. The kind that make you wince and say ouch?
A few to start things off-

"Dirty Harry"- The sniper pays to get his face beaten in by a thug. Realistic and painful, his face is grotesque afterwards. "Every penny's worth, you black son of a bitch!"

"Goodfellas"- Henry pistol-whips the guy in his own driveway.

"American History X"- Bite the curb!

"Lean On Me"- In the opening credits, a teacher has his head repeatedly bashed on the floor by a student. It's kinda quick, but it always makes me wince.

Jared Leto takes a rough one in Fight Club.
Casino - Pesci & his brother meet thier makers in a cornfield.

Rocky (any) - Rocky just gets pummelled in every single fight. He should have died in the ring long ago.
The Fight Club fights are great but the best mutual beating is Rowdy Roddy Piper and Keith David in They Live. It's one of the best and longest fights in movie history. They just beat the shit out of eachother and look it afterwords.
Patricia Arquette catching the wrath of the Gandolfini in True Romance.

I thought it would never stop.
Cape Fear and Raging Bull. Scorsese does the best beatings.
Mel Gibson in Payback.

Mel Gibson in Braveheart.

Mel Gibson in Lethal Weapons 1, 2, 3, 4.

Mel Gibson in Conspiracy Theory.

Do I sense a pattern?
powerless Clark Kent in Superman II, after he meets that tough guy in the diner. Not a heavy-heavy beating, but Chris Reeve sells it.

Charles Bronson roughing up a snitch in a toilet, in Borderline

Bill Forsythe gets sorted out good n'proper at the end of Out for Justice

Rapist friend's face meets fire extinguisher from Irreversible.

- Spider-Man: Goblin beats down Peter at the end
- X-men: Mystique kicks the crap out of Senator Kelly, Wolverine impales Rogue with his claws
- Goodfellas: All of the beatings
- The Matrix: Neo vs. Agent Smith in the subway
- The Matrix Reloaded: The Burly Brawl, the Chateau fight, Trinity tries to save the day, may end up fulfilling Neo's dream
- The Two Towers: Helm's Deep (better than I'd thought it'd be)
This topic is funny, since I just watched Sonny Corleone dispense one of the all-time ass whuppins on his brother in law about 10 minutes ago.

Stabbing in Friend (Korean flick)

Stabbing in Porno Star (Japanese flick)

Stabbing in Graveyard of Honor (Japanese flick)

I'm noticing a trend here...

"Casino" has got a bunch but I love Pesci when he stabs the one guy with the pen, and then when he pops out a guy's eye while his head is in a vice. I also liked when he hit Don Rickles with the phone, wasn't really brutal but it was pretty funny.

Good call on Out for Justice it came to my mind right away when I saw this thread.

Oh and Jonas you forgot to include Agent Smith's beatdown of Morpheus in the bathroom.

Blade- Frosts major beatdown on Whistler with plenty of stomps and kicks with some spit action to finish.

Running Man- The fake Capt Freedom/Ben Richards brawl with plenty of bloody punches and bobwire mixed in.

Predator- The big lizard's beatdown of Ahnold has to be included.

Best of the Best- Tommy Lee's vicious and vengeful beatdown of Dae Hong must be included.

Colors- The convicts beatdown of Hightop. As one of my friend's so eloquently puts it " The way they beat the shit out of Hightop looks freaking real! " indeed.

L.A Confidential- Bud White's vengeful beatdown of Shotgun Ed. Bonus-Its a bit of stretch but the way White beats the tar out of Hutchins was too good to leave out.

Kiss of the Dragon- Detective Richard's handsmashing technique's when he first meets Liu Jian must be included as well.

Knockaround Guys- Terrible movie but Diesel's beatdown of the small town main redneck was pure gold and the only good scene in the film.

Tombstone- C'mon Kurt Russell's ol up yours to Mr Sling Blade himself Billy Bob Thornton " You gonna do somethin or just stand there and bleed? ".

Unforgiven- Little Bill's furious welcome to English Bob. Extra points because after he beats the crap outa Bob he even hits him with his hat. Hate to see what he'd do to him if he was wearing a redcoat.

Angel Town- My personal Olivier Gruner favorite. Watch the end of the film beatdowns a plenty. Mixed in with plenty of " C'mon holmes! " chants for good measure.

All I can think of for right now.

They Live! The never ending fighting sequence between The Piper and the black dude!
Foxy the rat getting his in HARD BOILED is a pretty righteous ass-whuppin

Of course, Chow-yun fat gets pummelled quite thoruoghly in A BETTER TOMORROW

I have to second the supeman 2 beating of clark kent. Maybe not so much visually brutal, but that's superman getting beat on! When you're nine or ten years old, that's pretty dramatic stuff.
The fight between Chuck Norris and Bruce Lee at the end of Return of the Dragon. Those guys were beating the crap out of each other, then Bruce put the final beat down on him to end it.

The scene in Goodfellas when DeNiro and crew were stabbing the shit out of the guy in the trunk.

The scene in Boiler Room when Scott Caan when nuts and started beating the shit outta that guy with the 'tude in the bar.

The first confrontation between the Space Marines and the Xenos in Aliens. They never saw what hit them.

This was just a few off the top of my head.

Jackie Chan seems to beat the crap out of myself in every movie he does.

Lethal Weapon 4 - Jet Li
Austin Powers 2 - Austin & Mini Me
T2 - the two terminators
Raiders of the Lost Ark - Indy and the big guy under the plane
Die Hard - Alexander Godunov & Bruce Willis
post #25 of 46
I've got to add Carl Weathers' thrashing at the hands of Ivan Drago in "Rocky IV." Why didn't you throw the damn towel sooner Rock?
I REALLY have to agree on McClane vs Karl in Die Hard. That was one of the fiercest, brutal, most knockdown-drag out fights I've ever seen. Honorable mention goes to the alleyway brawl from They Live.

Correct. I forgot since I haven't watched the first Matrix and I've been into the ENTER THE MATRIX game for gamecube and THE ANIMATRIX which I got just recently. Good call.

(I would have responded earlier but IE crashed)
No problem Jonas you got all the others in the film right I was surprised you left that out. Peter Weller and the kid from First Born deserve to be mentioned here as well.
T2: Terminator vs Terminator, Arnold getting his head/face crushed with the steel ram.

Boogie Nights: Heather Graham stopping her skates into that rude guys face after the limo ride.

Pesci getting the baseball bat treatment.

any time Stevie Segal snaps a guys arm... For sure he is a fool, but that arm snapping thing gets a wince outta me.

--Cleric Preston pistol whips the shit out of the foot soldiers in Equilibrium. This was just amazing!

--Quinn gets his ass handed to him by Van Zan in Reign of Fire. I found that fight to be rather gritty and dirty.

The climax of Tom Cody (Michael Pare) and Raven Shaddock (Willem Dafoe)'s sledgehammer fight in Streets of Fire is a classic.

Stacy Keach as Killer Kane + a barload of people in The Ninth Configuration.

Off. Marvin Nash got it pretty good in Reservoir Dogs, even before Mr. Blonde got to him.

Elliott Gould's Philip Marlowe takes a huge beating in Altman's The Long Goodbye; for that matter, it's not strictly a beating, but what Marty Augustine (Mark Rydell) does to his girlfriend is alarming.
Clancy Brown beats the "mushy butt" of the fat guy to death in The Shawshank Redemption. Good example of "less is more".

In real life, Ethan Hawke would be dead after getting his Training Day beat down from Denzel. Then he naturally jumps face first from the roof onto his car hood. Damn.

Fight Club. Period.

James Caan to Carlo Rizzi in The Godfather. "Touch my sister again and I'll kill ya!"

Lawrence gets beaten and raped by the Turks in Lawrence of Arabia. Again, not extremely showy, but we get the point, and more importantly, it has intense ramifications for the rest of the film.

Can't forget the Rocky films. Pick any of them for escalating definitions of the term "beaten to a pulp".
I can't believe this thread has gotten this far without a single mention towards -

Jake The Muss beating the absolute living piss out of his wife, Beth, in Once Were Warriors. Now THAT was sheer brutality.

Also, gotta give another vote to the alleyway fight in They Live (and the following scene of them walking together directly afterwards - hilarious!).

And anyone stupid enough to go anywhere near Kilmer and Russell in Tombstone . . . pistol-whipped with your own gun has to be pretty embarassing.

The bank robbery shootout in The Long Riders.

The throat slashing of Angel in The Wild Bunch.
That chick taking a bottle to the face in The Long Goodbye.

Norton vs. himself in Fight Club.

Ripley handing the Queen her ass with the big loader machine thingy in Aliens.

Equilibrium was filled with some good beatings (and shootings).

The nail studded baseball bat to the head in Escape from New York.

The beat-down of Jodie Foster's ex-husband in Panic Room.
Evil Dead 2 : Bruce Campbell gets the shit beat out of him by his own hand.
Robocop vs. Clarence Boddicker- Robocop
Zack vs. Sgt. Foley- An Officer and a Gentleman
Riggs vs. Mr. Joshua- Lethal Weapon
Riggs vs. Wah Sing Ku- Lethal Weapon 4
Bullseye vs. Elektra- Daredevil

People always mention the guy being beaten with the fire extinguisher in Irreversable, no one ever mentions Monica's head being bounced off the floor by the rapist's fist.
Passion of the Christ. All but five minutes of it.

With this and Irreversible taken care of, there's nowhere for the thread to go but down.
Fistfight from THE QUIET MAN. An Irish Duke serves up some fist-tacos to Victor McLagen in true grit action.

I believe that was only implied, not actually seen. As I recall her head goes out of frame, so its mostly the sound effect. On the other hand, the fire extinguisher beating was CGI-enhanced. Still, both were absolutely brutal.

In recent news, Layer Cake contains a top-tier beatdown. Wow!
Goodfellas- Liotta pistol-whipping
The Hunted- Tommy Lee and Benicio at the end (not sure if this counts)
Rolling Thunder- William Devane stabs a guy in the groin with his hook hand

There's this Korean film called "Attack The Gas Station" that has some pretty rough ones.
Except for that last kick, Ralph Macchio takes a beating about every 15 minutes in THE KARATE KID.

I think the Castle/Russian fight in THE PUNISHER was one of the best mixtures of brutality and comedy since the classic battle in THEY LIVE.
