1. Commando: To me, it gave birth to the modern action film.
2. T2
3. The Terminator
4. Total Recall
5. Predator
6. The Running Man
7. Eraser
8. Kindergarten Cop
9. End of Days
10. Twins

Just looking at the top 7 of that list amazes me. Say what you want about the man's acting ability, his politics, or his ego but his genre films are the stuff of legends. I know this thread just started but I hope I see "Commando" get a little more respect for the classic that it is.

I don't know what to say Gruber, thank God you gave "Commando" the #1 slot or I would have been pulling my hair out at the treatment this movie has received so far. I can see people not having it as there favorite Arnold film but to not make it an automatic top ten choice is shocking. Oh well, I'm sure there are many who think I'm bonkers for not having "Conan" or "True Lies" on my list.

Hopefully after this weekend "Twins" will lose its spot on my list. I'm not expecting "T3" to crank my top 5 but if it can't make the top ten I'll be really letdown.

John Matrix is a great father. He lifts logs, takes his daughter to ice cream. All around great guy. Although when the chips are down, he can slice peoples heads open with sawblades and eradicate Dan Hedaya's army. All traits of a great father.

You ever hear of a little movie called Rambo: First Blood part II?

Sly OWNS Arnold's Aryan ass.

Not to mention he ponders the popularity of Boy George with his daughter. My father never tried to connect with me like that.

So it begins. What started as a nice thread praising the work of a true legend will now derail into a battle of Johns, Matrix Vs. Rambo.

To me there is no contest that John Matrix did more for the modern action film than John Rambo. I liked Rambo in the original "First Blood" but that was because he was a tragic figure who was forced to survive an impossible situation. With "First Blood Part 2" that character became a one note caveman who ended up plowing his way through a bunch of villains who'd have had a tough time taking Olivier Grunner down.

John Matrix, on the other hand, blazed his way through "Commando" unlike any other hero in modern action cinema. From jumping out of airplanes, to pulling phone booths out of the ground, ripping bucket seats out of cars, trading barbs with Bill Duke, and helping Vernon Wells let off some steam. Outside of John McClane and Martin Riggs, no action hero can carry the rocket launcher of John Matrix.

As much as I loved the first one, the concept for Destroyer was much truer to the original Conan stories -- Conan as a mercenary, wizards, nubile princesses, strange companions, without all the Nietzschian baggage. If it could have been pulled off a little better, it would have kicked some major ass.

High Five
Terminator
T2
Predator
Total Recall
Conan the Barbarian

Next Five
True Lies
Commando
Running Man
Twins
Conan the Destroyer

Frankly all of Arnold's comedies are aging rather poorly. I find both Twins and Kindergarten Cop to be nearly unwatchable but I put Twins on the list due to my first viewing enjoyment. Pumping Iron is a great movie too; barely missed the cut.

Bottom Five (Worst Ah-nuld)

Batman and Robin
Jingle All the Way
End of Days
Junior
6th Day
Thats a good bottom 5 Burke.
I'm now inspired to include my bottom five-
Total Recall
Twins
Junior
End of Days
Red Heat
Honorable Mention: Batman & Robin (I don't really consider that an Ah-nuld vehicle.)

Predator
Commando
Conan the Destroyer
Total Recall
Last Action Hero
The Running Man
Red Heat
Conan the Barbarian
Eraser
Kindergarten Cop

1. Predator - I feel this is as perfect as an action movie can get. John McT has two of the best evers in his filmography with this and Die Hard. Also, I like to think of this movie as a sort of prequel of sorts to Commando, in my own dream world.

2. Commando - maybe it didnt give birth to the modern action film, but it sure gave birth to the Modern Arnold Film. One liners, over the top violence, high body count. Amazing movie.

3. Conan the Barbarian - Just an awesome piece of film. Milius had a great script. Arnold was born to play this role.

4. T2 - 4th may seem low, but i love the hell out of this movie. It is very awesome. I knocked it down a bit because Arnold is ordered to keep the body count low, sort of took the fun out of it a bit, but still a landmark movie.

5. True Lies - Awesome Awesome Awesome movie. Great arnold-isms. One of the best ever was the interrogation scene..."You know my handcuffs...I picked them" Jamie lee curtis annoys the hell outta me in this movie though.

6. Total Recall - God, this list is so difficult to make, I dont like putting this movie so low cuz it kicks ass. Great Phillip k. Dick story, great direction by verhoven. Arnold's sci-fi opus.

7. Twins - His best comedy EVER. I think it still holds up very well. Great chemistry between DeVito and Arnold. "YOu are forgetting the third rule of a crisis situation"

8. Kindergarten Cop - What an awesome movie. Hilarious.

I cant go on. Eraser is pretty good, the rest of his movies are pretty crappy. Raw Deal had potential but is too low budge. Pumping iron i dont really consider a true arnold movie. Batman and robin...gross. 6th day, end of days, yadda yadda, they all sucked.

Arnold's classics are untouchable.

Oh, and john matrix would OWN Rambo.

Also, I have no clue where I would put T3. I LOVE THE HELL OUT OF THIS MOVIE. But its too early for me to place it anywhere. I do know that it is truly an Arnold Classic already. What a movie!!!

1. Total Recall--"They stole his mind, now he wants it back."
2. Terminator--"In the Year of Darkness, 2029, the rulers of this planet devised the ultimate plan. They would reshape the Future by changing the Past. The plan required something that felt no pity. No pain. No fear. Something unstoppable. They created 'THE TERMINATOR'"
3. True Lies--"When he said I do, he didn't say what he did."
4. Terminator 2--"Same Make. Same Model. New Mission."
5. Conan The Barbarian--"Thief Warrior Gladiator King"
6. Running Man--"A game nobody survives. But Schwarzenegger has yet to play."
7. Kindergarten Cop--"An undercover cop in a class by himself."
8. Predator--"Nothing like it has ever been on Earth before. It came from another planet for the thrill of the hunt. It picked the wrong man."
9. Commando--"Somewhere... somehow... someone's going to pay!"
10. Twins--"Only their mother can tell them apart."

10a. Raw Deal--"The government gave him a raw deal. Nobody gives him a raw deal."
10b. The Villain

That movie defined Schwarzenegger's personality (as it was in his youth anyway). Although possibly not as entertaining as some of his other work, if one has no interest in bodybuilding and/or weightlifting...

1. True Lies
2. T2: Judgement Day

1. Commando
2. Pumping Iron
3. Predator
4. Conan the Barbarian
5. Terminator

The rest I pretty much love all the same:

6. True Lies
7. Terminator 2
8. Total Recall
9. The Running Man
10. Last Action Hero
11. Stay Hungry
13. Terminator 3
14. Twins
15. Kindergarten Cop
16. Hercules in New York
17. Eraser

The Bad:

1. Batman and Robin
2. Conan the Destroyer
3. Red Sonja

The above three movies didn't actually star Arnold; rather, a digital image of him was projected onto someone else. Arnold is still in litigation for libel.

2. Conan the Barbarian
3. True Lies
4. Terminator
5. Commando

9. Judgment Day
10. The Running Man

I was going to write that I didn’t think Last Action Hero was a bad movie, but I honestly get a headache when I try to watch it all the way through. I like what it was going for and what it could have been.

I hope that T3 allows Schwarzenegger to do fucking Crusade rather than run for the governor gig. I think that would score high on my list, especially if Verhoeven were involved. That is absolutely the movie I want to see get made right now, as it has been for the last 10yrs. I think his older look might even go over better for that sort of film.

Also, my list is based on emotion rather than what I think the quality of the movie is. If I were to program a marathon, this might be the play list. Er, I might save Judgment Day for last in that case.
