Personally, I'm psyched that Geena Davis was recognized for The Long Kiss Goodnight. I own the flick and get teased to no end by people who have never seen it. Geena Davis indeed kicks ass (and looks great as a blonde, I might add).

I would also include X2 on the list. Mystique is one bad ass mama! Not to mention Lady Deathstrike, Jean Gray, Storm, Rogue...

Pretty nice list. I think Coffy kicks Foxy Brown's ass, though. Michelle Yeoh does some great stuff in Wing Chung.

Strange Days deserves a mention. Angela Bassett isn't the lead, but she does, indeed, kick ass.

Frankly, there aren't enough films with women kicking ass to come up with a top ten very different from that one. Throw in the mentioned-but-not-included Carrie-Ann Moss, perhaps, and maybe a Bond girl or two.

Strange Days is a great choice, and a damn underrated movie.

Night of the Living dead remake.
This time Barbara gives as good as she gets.
Boo-yah!

Never saw Strange Days. Must check it out. And how did I forget Carrie Ann Moss in the Matrix?!

Although it was meant to be a women bonding movie, I will give Thelma & Louise an honorable mention. Those two chicks may not have been action heros, but they kicked plenty of ass.

Foxy Brown over Coffy? Never.

Agreed....and it's good to see Michelle Yeoh made that list.

What? Naked Killer? Tai-Chi Master? Dragon Inn? Bride with White Hair? Countless others?

Hmmm seems HK is more about female empowerment in a lot of ways than even America is. At least empowerment of the @$$ kicking kind...

I think Dave meant more in the mainstream kind.

Good call on X2. The women definitely own this franchise. Logan's already gotten his ass handed to him by two fine ladies so far.

And we've still got the rise of Phoenix to come. That, my friends, will be the greatest female asskicking of all time.

Good to see emphasis on the Alien TRILOGY.

I think "Kick Ass Well" is implied, so for that alone I would take Sharon Stone's scowling vanity project "The Quick and the Dead" off the list.

The rest seem good, but I think the best ones are when its presented as just natural, not some sort of rah rah women empowerment thing where they try act as much like a man as they can. Women are different from men, and the reason I don't care for Geena Davis in "Long Kiss Goodnight" or Sharon Stone is that they try too hard. They try to do the "we can be just as manly" thing. Michelle Yeoh or the X2 ladies work so well because they don't make it seem like a "my penis is bigger than yours" contest, but rather an inner strength and demeanor that really does kick ass.

I think "La Femme Nikita" deserves a nod big time.
