I forget why I thought about this theme last night before going to sleep. Part of it had to do with the AFI special, me daydreaming in wonderland of a parody of one really depressing scene...then trying to think of 10 scenes for a top ten list that pretty much depressed the shit out of me.
I could only come up with two so far, ones that really stick out (feel very free to add your own):
1) The end of Schindler's List. The John Williams score complimenting Liam's performance as he thinks of all the people he could have saved but didn't...the pin, the car, and the eventual sobbing. This damn movie needs to be on dvd already.
2) Homer doing the right thing after his dad has the accident in October Sky. Him looking up at the stars seeing Sputnik fly-by as he gets swallowed by the mine. That experience of giving up on a dream for practical reasons rings all too true for me...
