Favorite Beach Movies

So in honor of summer and the fact that Men's Journal sent me their Beaches and Bars issue today, I have been thinking about my favorite beach movies. Also, I am planning a beach trip for my wife and I and was wanting some more ideas of movies to watch before we head out.

Donovan's Reef - To me this is the perfect beach movie. It is like a story or song Buffett never wrote but should have.

Endless Summer - This movie and its sequel will just make you want to go out and discover some secret beach all your own.

Jaws - Yeah, you might not swim too much after it, but that is one of the reason's its a great beach movie.

South Pacific - It just has to be in there somewhere.

How to Stuff a Wild Bikini

When I was in the 10th grade I spent a couple months at home sick with mono. I had a sympathetic doctor, so sue me. Anyway, I watched all of the Frankie Avalon/Annette Funicello Beach movies over a couple of weeks on WTBS.

Terrible stuff, but they helped pass the time. And for that I'm eternally grateful.

Anyone in this thread who hasn't seen Big Wednesday needs to check it out, pronto - Bill Katt, Jan-Michael Vincent, and Gary Busey as late 60s surfers. GREAT fuckin' flick.

And another nod to the campy fun of Psycho Beach Party.

Horror at Party Beach

The opening of Saving Private Ryan was powerful and harrowing, but did it have green Kermit the Frog/Cookie Monster mutations and musical sensation the Dell-Aires? NO.

I stand by my original post of Grease, but here's some more:

The Beach -- I know people love to hate this film, but because I loved the book so much I forgave a lot of the films faults

Beaches -- sappy, yes. the quintessential chick flick, yes. but also a great tale of everlasting friendship, so I forgive the fact that its Bette Midler

Point Break -- just fun, fun, fun. Plus a whole lot of wet Keannu, whoa!

Jaws -- The movie that made people afraid to go to the beach!
