Pre-release Marci X discussion

Don't know why I typed those words other than to have an excuse to trash this film.

It's safe to say the promise of a million dollars under my seat in the theater wouldn't make me go see this.

That's a lie.

I need the cash right now so that would get me in. But just barely. Unless they're trying a new concept with their TV ads - show the worst parts - it looks sad.

Speaking of cash, doesn't Kudrow make tons for Friends? I guess a little more won't hurt but it's hard to believe this is the only script she could get. If it is, time for a new agent.

There was a time when I thought Damon Waynes was a funny, funny guy... way back in the day...

The trailers to this movie make me want to gouge-out baby eyes with a spoon. Maybe that's an overstatement. Still, you get my opinion pretty clear.

Like the scene where he and Marlon destroy the deli in Mo' Money.

I cannot believe I just posted that.

Three words: In Living Color

And it's sad to think there are people without Studio connections who have infintely better screenplays that will never see the light of day. Or, if the person without connections did get a meeting at a Studio and proposed this exact idea, he would end up in a dumpster in Riverside, CA.

i think we're all over-looking something here, i hate, no wait that's harsh, i hate Lisa Kudrow, someone should invite her and Phillip Seymour Hoffman to dinner and feed them broken glass, it just hurt to watch that, and considering the lame bullshit Scary Movie turned out to be, i'm not holding my breadth for any Wayans making a hit anytime soon, and Damon's Homey the Clown movie seems about a decade too late, i'm gonna go watch The Last Boyscout and Blankman and pretend none of this ever happened...

Kudrow and the glass dinner are fine with me, but not PSH. He rocks! He's one of the best actors in Hollywood today! You need only see this film to see what I mean.
What's really sad about this whole situation is that MARCI X will probably not live to see a post-release discussion thread. Sniff, sniff.

Poor girl never stood a chance.
Wait, I get it, Lisa Kudrow plays an uptight white woman who has to immerse herself in the hip hop culture. Hot damn, do you think any theaters will have Thursday midnight shows?
This movie's definitely going to be the opposite of good.
I don't know which movie is more tired, the aforementioned MARCI X and its worn, stereotypical white/black "aren't they funny together" shenanigans, or MY BOSS'S DAUGHTER, who's commercial contains not one, not two, but *three* OJ Simpson jokes. Is that really the best you got, Hollywood?

Either way, this is gonna be the least funny weekend in the history of movies, at least until the box office figures are released. Those should be a riot.
I just watched this one year shelf warmer tonight. If anyone actually believes that this is a better movie than Gigli, well then they're probably lying.

What's sad is it'll probably make more money.

Hey man, why you gotta dis Riverside like that!!!! I live in that mutha!! (the city not the dumpster)

As to the topic, it hurts just to watch the trailer. Why does the endless drivel of this crap keep coming.
I think Freddy Vs. Jason is going to keep on kicking ass this weekend, because with the exception of The Italian Job being re-released, it has no new competition.
Well, "Marci 9" was pretty good, so I'm looking forward to this one.

Thank you.
Me, I like Lisa Kudrow. This movie looks pretty goddamned awful, though. There just are no vehicles for funny women these days, except to play Jim Carrey's girlfriend, Adam Sandler's girlfriend, etc. So I certainly understand why she would take the part.

In that case, I'll be more than happy to collect said million and start mocking you until one of us dies of old age.

It's being re-released on August 29th and that's next weekend, CB.

The competition this weekend besides the leftovers are The Medallion and My Boss's Daughter. This has to be one of the shittiest wide release weeks ever.

So far today, we've seen Gigli vs. Marci X and Simon Sez vs. The Medallion.

I'm just saying, is all.

Because she's barely making end's meat on that piddling Friends salary? wink

Here's the thing: "Gigli" will never have 9 sequels like "Marci" does.

Thank you.
Wait, if they do, then maybe, just maybe, eventually we actually will get "Gigli vs. Marci X," directed by Ronny Yu.
As sad as these jokes are, they're still better than anything I've seen in the Marci X trailers.

I imagine this was in limbo until Bringing Down The House made mad cash, then Paramount decided to just throw this excrement out on 1,000 screens to see what would happen.
Well, Micah - what did you expect? This is the tenth entry. They were bound to hit a wall sometime.
It's so weird to think Kevin Bacon got his start in the first Marci.

Exactly. And it's sad to see where Richard Benjamin's (the director) career is going.

He directed 2 of my favorite comedy films of the 80s:
The Money Pit and My Stepmother is An Alien

Not only that, but he play's Marci's dad in the film. That could only mean no one wanted to play her dad in this piece of shit, so he was forced to.

hmmm, a post-Happiness role that was decent, wheel see about that, wheel see, i'll check it out, otherwise, just looking at that picture of him on the site is annoying, he used to be good, but it's shattered glass and tuna melt for him, and he doesn't even compare to, the GUZMAN!!!... oh yeah, Marci X still looks like shit...

Sorry, man. I should have said Barstow. At least I didn't use the Jim Rome (sports radio) derivative: Rivertucky.

Its very hard to believe this is being released on 1000 screens. This along with the news Shaolin Soccer is getting a limited release makes me want to vomit all over Hollywood.

Not to digress, but LOVE LIZA sucked hot dog balls.

It's a shame about MARCI X. There was a really funny, filthy early draft of this. The casting looks miserable, though, and whoever directed it doesn't appear to have even listened to one real rap song beforehand.
As bad as this movie sounds it holds a sort of train wreck appeal to me. The worst a movie can do is bore me and if I can be held in morbid facination by Plan 9 From Outerspace for an hour and a half, Marci X doesn't bother me.

Mind You I won't be paying any money to see this but in the future when this is on cable I'll probably watch it.

Indeed. The "rap parodies" in the commercials look like they saw ONE MC Hammer video in the early 90s and they had about enough with that.

Also, I understand this thing is like 70 minutes longh WITH credits. Is this even a feature? Is this even a film? Clearly, it's been flayed to the bones and most likely is missing several scenes in the trailers like the similarly cut-to-shreds The Medallion.

This is one of those films that completely spits in the face of the "you should see it before you judge it" mantra that has become religion here on CHUD.

that particular Wayans can be entertaining in small doses, so I might watch this movie just for him.

Amen. They must really reinforce that at Shill School.
Going to see it in the theatre encourages more crap. If enough people take the attitude that it can't be that bad and blow $9 (and an hour and a half of their life), the Studios don't get the proper negative feedback. Wait to see it on cable.

I'm going to have to see this movie just because of the bashing it's taking. My "inverse rewiew" law works about 90% of the time so based on it, this movie has potential. Not to mention I'm a big softee for an underdog. Besides, I thought Damon Wayans was fucking hilarious in "Major Payne."
I love Major Payne. It's the guiltiest of my guilty pleasures, just something about the character makes me laugh my ass off every time I see it. Wayans is immensly quotable too, although the movie doesn't have much to offer after the first 40 minutes or so. But it's worth a cable viewing just to hear Damon go totally apeshit during his first attempt at training the boys.

"What if this was a life and death situation?"
"But it's not a life and death situation!"
*pulls out gernade*
"It is now!"

Yeah, so technically the movie sucks, but I'll be damned if it ain't funny. Sadly, I doubt the same sort of guilty pleasure could be found in Marci X. Jesus, even typing the name is irritating.

Some creative accountant at Paramount actually figured they could make some money releasing this than having it remain on the shelf.

Dusting off the old Malcolm X jokes, are we?

My buddy in Dallas just emailed me - he was talking to the manager at one of the nice suburban Dallas cineplexes: they sold 24 tickets to 3 shows Friday night.
The worst part is, they won't release the original Marcis on dvd, as they want retroactively add X's scenes in
