Here we go.

Imperator, you may go at 11 if you're able. Dave, 12.

Folks, email me your picks if you can't make it. Make sure the subject lien is DRAFT so I can discern it from the wheat and chaff.
I'm #22 in the order. I'll check the draft again at 8:00 a.m. (Eastern) tomorrow. If I'm not up I'll email you (Nick) my first pick and a couple of alternatives.
I hate to be curmudgeonly, but for the first round, shouldn't we be sticking a little more strictly to the order? otherwise what's the point? the first round is when the most wanted movies get snatched up (such as Raiders of the Lost Ark, a first choice which was taken by someone AFTER me on the list). use the "lightning" method in other rounds, but let's allow people a little time to get their first pick in.

Well, I thought people would come out of the gate chomping. Anyway, I've stressed over this thing TOO much over the past few days. Draft and let's move forward.

So, you're just going to not draft?
um, can i have a few minutes to go over my list? Christ

this "work" thing does have a tendency to interfere with life

Understood, just want to keep things moving and avert a crisis on infinite earths liek last time. Sorry, Dave. For what it's worth, Blo offered to rescind his pick of Raiders for ya if it'd help.
nah, that isn't necessary, i'm good. i guess i'm just still sore over losing Milano and Forlani in the chick draft...
Curses, miss one day of logging on and look what happens. Of course, I still had my top pick available so I can't complain too much.

You build a thousand bridges. But do they call you Omar the bridge builder? No. You kiss one little ass!

Goodfellas... the first real wound of many I will sustain in this draft.
Nick, 5 of my top 10 favorite films of all time were taken before I even got to draft in the NINTH spot! (Actually 10th but Knox has yet to go). Thought I had it made. I feel your pain.

Blofeld, you pummeled me with RAIDERS. I hate you forever.

Just wait, Carl.

Your draft order will be sunk. You'll be taking Thomas the Tank Engine by round 3, I guarantee it!
I met this girl at a bar last night, and she =wanted= to take Thomas the Tank Engine, but apparently her boyfriend didn't think it was such a good idea.

Damn you Django! I figured TPM would be the one Star Wars flick no one would choose first round. By the time the draft gets to me, I'm going to have the fucking Ewok movies left for Star Wars choices. This draft is punishing in just the first 10 picks.
Screw you guys! It's my brithing day and still you are evil curmudgeons. TELETUBBIES: THE MOVIE here I come!
I don't know, but I hope BRS gets a crack at it. No way it will last 'til Round 2 and there's no one else I;d rather have the last SW available flick
post #18 of 60
If Jar Jar can get picked at 11... the Ewoks can go at any time
post #19 of 60
Argh! AoD goes down. The only film that I even thought of taking before Goodfellas. And only because I knew you coldhearted bastards wouldn't allow it to last until the 2nd round.
I just can't live without "Army of Darkness" - the only reason I bought a damn DVD player last year.
trippingbillie, I'd say it's cool for you to go now..
I weep for myself and BRS
Star Wars Episode One is a lot of things to me and as such it was the only choice I had to make.

I chose it for all the friends long gone that with we promised to see it together.

I chose it for my friend Rob who my friendship with survived 10 years and with whom I saw it opening night.

I chose it for my mother and for how she reacted that night when she saw how close the mother and son relationship in it was to our own.

I chose it for my father to honor him for the way it is one of few understanding we have with each other.

I chose it because it marks a time in my life where the biggest events thus far hail from.

I chose it because I am Anakin Skywalker.

I chose it because it saved my worthless life.

I chose it because.
Well, you couldn't have given any better reasons than those, except of course chosing it for Angus Scrimm's sake.
Damn...actually, that was the most heartfelt thing I have ever seen Django write.

Thanks, Django. It was truly touching.
Only now at the end do you understand...

What part of this is unclear to you?

It was the movie event of our lifetime and at once made me a kid again for the last time as it forced me to grow up for the first.

Jar Jar doesn't concern me.
Darth Maul doesn't thrill me.
The effects do not wow me.

The story and what is to come moves me.

For it is me.

Hey Nick. When and how do we determine the winner of the Babe Island draft?

Well, I'm a bit surprised nobody's picked __________________ or __________________ yet. I personally have _______________ next on my list but fear that it'll get taken by _________________.
So far these are pretty predictable and rather sad in a lot of ways.

Grim Fist is in the lead for picking Explorers, which not only is a very good movie and one of Dante's best, but is also a film no one saw coming.
The Beach? What a surprise!
I agree, the first round should fall fairly predictably. You must grab the jewels that you know will get grabbed by somebody else. The later rounds are for the films you hope you cherish that few others do. Although in a movie forum, I think those hopes will get dashed pretty quickly.
Believe me, next round I'll kick it up a notch.

So much so you will think I've gone crazy as a loon. But say nay thee, for it is not the case.

For at the end of this, you will finally understand...

I learned last time that saving is a MISTAKE.

It cost me a really important lady that I was SURE no one else would take.

I'll have her this time, and heaven help anyone who tries to stop me.
You conside "Ilsa, She-Wolf of the SS" a sentimental pic? Betcha it's gone by round 7.

Jack, for the sake of peace among brothers I will refrain for responding to your TPM charge as I will also refrain from using your criteria to list all the reasons why AOD isn't much better.

After all, if you can't think of anything better to come here with than a tired chain of thought in an attempt to make things "interesting," I pity you. Much in the same way I pity anyone who still can't understand why there are people who enjoy and dare I say it love the movie. Especially after what's been written here.

You simply must do better next time...
And I'd like to thank Raoul Duke and Hellblazer for the double whammy Michael Biehn strike.

You have made my draft choices much easier.
Davis, you'd better go right on time. If not, I promise I'll take your absolute-must-have right out from under you!
"Perfect, baby...Perfect" I've still got some tricks up my sleeve for round 2. I am surprised at some of thr choices so far, not as uniform as I thought it would be!

I had a tough time with my round 2. I sat there, fingers in home position, for the longest time. Would I type X or Y? X or Y? What finally made up my mind? Knowing it'd destroy CARL!
Yeah, sorry for the late start boys, annual student reunion thing in Plymouth, meaning I haven't been concious for the past five days.

And I was suprised it was still there, but my top ten list was totally decimated in the first round apart from Matrix and Life of Brian.
From here on out gang you're gonna have to be pretty damn knowledgeable in all things film to guess my choices.

I'm not pickin' my top 10. I'm pickin' the movies that influenced me as a child, whether they're considered classics or not.

Let the fun begin...
Can't believe Rushmore went as a first rounder. I held out hope it would last through the 2nd round and fall to me in the 3rd, but I thought that was slim hopes indeed. But going in the first round had never even occurred to me. Especially when the first round ended and it was still on the board, before Ray in all his tardiness snatched it away. Bah.
I read that I had until 9:00 - am I out because you meant 9:00 eastern? It's 6:39 here and I was on holiday yesterday.

Rules? If I miss my turn, it's no big deal, but I wanted to nab "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan"

Normally I don't like to question other folks' choice in films, but what's happening Grim?

Explorers and Split Second?
