I agree on both points. No chick can compete with THE THING.

Well unless she can grow a spider head and let you meet Kurt Russell.

and a voice was screaming: Holy Jesus! What are these damn animals

U2Shark, you just maybe made my 3rd round decision for me. It was between Pee-Wee and one other film, and that film only needs to last a few more short picks...
I say we start round 3 and screw all the bullshit...
I'm all for starting the 3rd round. But that's only because by the time I get into work tomorrow (7 my time) we'll probably have gone 5 picks past me already.
I am just so totally heartbroken that I didn't get The Thing. Ah well. There's still The Fog ... right? RIGHT??? ... Mrs. Cobritz?
Shhhhh, listen. You can actually hear this creak to a halt if you try.
well that's because people work in the day and are forced to sit in front of a computer for 8 hours or so. After that, I do not even want to look at a computer screen until the next day.

Temple of Doom gets love. About damn time!
i actually made the tough decision between Silence and Buckaroo. didn't think either would last this long, actually
post #12 of 43
I prayed that Banzai would last until round numero-three-o as it was the second bill to Last Starfighter on many summer afternoons as I grew up. What can I say, 1984-1986 was just a magical time to be a kid.

If I had picked Aliens as my first choice, then so far I really would have the movies that truly mean the most to me.

Only two more semi-big ones till I begin taking those 1 star not so classics...

Just for future reference for those who post pics, Geocities no longer allows you to remote link, hence all the loveley little 's . Probably because of the female draft pictures we linked to

Just letting ya know.

Small quibble, but I wanted to bring it up. I really like the strategy of posting ahead of time who is up, and when. I don't have an unlimited amount of time to check in here, so it helps me plan out when I should try to be at my computer, or know whether I should email a pick to someone ahead of time.

But since I think I'm picking dead last in this draft, it seems as we get toward the end of each round, people start getting antsy and that protocol is dropped. Through two rounds, I've twice waited out to see if a time would be posted for me, or for my "group" of posters near the end of the round. That hasn't happened either time, and the next time I check back, I find that the next round has already started.

So, I just wanted to post the small request that, ya know, if I could get some kind of window in advance from whomever, it would help out a lot.

Thanks.

Ray, I like it as well, but people here seem to have mixed feelings on it and the notion that it sucks the fun out of the draft. Yet, when we don't constantly nudge the draft along as such, it drags because people are either not here or don't know when to go ro who is next.

Take your case up with Nick and see what he says. He's the draft overlord.
Damn you, Grim-Fisto.

You go in pieces, asshole.

Good Cop. Bad Alien. BIG TROUBLE.

Dolph Lundgren kicking ass, killer cd's flying around and our Lord and Savior, Brian Benben.

What a BADASS movie!
I know you got much praise in the last draft, Shelby, but thanks from me for doing the pictures. They're all excellent.
Poxy, just do what I do, email your pick and two or three alternates to nick@chud.com and/or to mikah9@atl.mediaone.net.

The Thing was such a cool movie,i just saw it recently, and IMMEDIATELY went out to buy the McFarlane Movie Maniac Toys from the movie. Those things rule.

if someone (in a position of power) gets a chance, can the CHOSEN thread be updated? it's easier than sifting through all the other stuff...

As much as I love Aliens, Top Gun is a movie that I never get tired of. The movie is ridiculous but the emotional content is great. Maverick is everyman who fights his demons and triumphs in war.
Neither Aliens nor Top Gun is the best movie of 1986.

It's all about Cherry, baby...
Sure kid.

Remember you part of Team Django now...

C'mon - 1986 brought us WISE GUYS, THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE 2, STAND BY ME, HENRY: PORTRAIT OF A SERIAL KILLER, 9 1/2 WEEKS, ONE CRAZY SUMMER, STAR TREK IV: THE VOYAGE HOME, CASTLE IN THE SKY, THREE AMIGOS, PRETTY IN PINK, FRIDAY THE 13TH PART VI: JASON LIVES, COBRA, MONA LISA, TRANSFORMERS: THE MOVIE, IRON EAGLE, F/X, BLUE VELVET, POLICE ACADEMY 3: BACK IN TRAINING, MANHUNTER, SPACE CAMP, CHOPPING MALL, THE FLY, HOUSE, GOBOTS: WAR OF THE ROCK LORDS, LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, ARMOUR OF GOD 2: OPERATION CONDOR, MATADOR, SHORT CIRCUIT, and HANNAH AND HER SISTERS

And on TV: RETURN TO MAYBERRY and GARFIELD IN PARADISE

It was back when being Steve Guttenberg meant you WERE somebody!!!

1986 fucking rocked for movies
and the Jack Ryan Series is MINE! ahahahah!
Tell you what Hawk. You can reserve Ben Affleck's Jack Ryan movie now for next year...
BigRoundBastard. Sumbitch. All of the more recent films were going like hotcakes and I was sure Casablanca had somehow been forgotten. Teach me to think.
You two are gonna shut up and soldier...
My "strategy" is simple. I have a running list of my Top 100 films of all time (always in flux). I have said list as my draft depth chart. Easy enough. Screw patterns. The only time I deviate is when it looks like I can let something slide for another round or two in order to get something more popular.

Innocent, have you seen MEMENTO already? Not a smart ass comment, but a sincere question because I know there are already bootleg copies out there. I just thought it odd someone would draft a film they haven't seen yet in the 5th round. But to each his own...
Coolness.
That's cool. Makes sense. After all, a film with buzz that good is likely to get drafted at some point. I just was curious as whether you'd seen it because it's still pretty early in the draft.

Speaking of which... who's next? We've grinded to a halt again.
Yes, I was going to take ____________, too. But I can't imagine why you would think that either ___________ or _____________ would be chosen this entire draft, let alone by round 2.
Come on! ____________ is a purveyor of crap! His direction of ___________ is sophomoric, and _____________ can't even qualify for "freshmanonic". ___________? You must be nuts.

Make mine _____________!
The later portion of each round is slower than my Grandma without her walker. Either that or I'm living out The Girl, The Gold Watch And Everything. And I didn't realize I'd stopped time. Damn, that's the worst when you stop time on accident.
Not for me. I'm enjoying it. People stopped posting when I was getting it on with my mistress!
Blo, we stopped cause we all were getting on with your mistress.

Except for me that is cause I call her Mom.

And I have such detailed reasons for choosing my films, that you'll soon be reading a report on The Sci-Fighter about them...
Dammit Forklift! I couldn't remember if The Hobbit had a theatrical release or not, that was gonna be my round 5 pick!
For Carl:

Yes, you assume right. Haven't seen any other version of MOHICANS 'cept the Mann one.
i actually remember GOING OUT OF MY WAY to see Spacehunter, and then arguing with a friend over which was a better 3D sci-fi movie, that or Metalstorm: The Destruction of Jared Syn...

ah, such fond memories
