Just got this DVD and once again realized that they made far better spectacles in the past than they do now. As much as I love large scale recreations of historic battles such as those in Braveheart and Gladiator, I derived more plesure from Cleopatra because it followed its history far better. Such historical movies should not move like Steven Segal actioners like they do today. This old classic included many details that many probably wouldn't get, but gives great entertain to those who understand.

I can believe that this was made in the 60's. The battles and the shots of Rome are very impressive and makes you wonder why they can't do something this grand today.

For those into such history, this movie rocks! I didn't particular enjoy the Caesar performance for it was far too subtle but probably more realistic this way.

Otherwise, a fine example of how to stage a big ass movie. This must've been bigger than Titanic in it's day, not in box office, but in terms of never before seeing such effort being put into a movie.
