Batman

Where did the Batman films first go wrong?

I think, at least off the top of my head, that it was with the death of the Joker.

How about you?

The Joker didn't die.
Name the things the Joker is known for.
The hair. The grin. The voice. The lack of a tan. The sick sense of humour. The fact that he pretends to die on a regular basis.
Now, watch the end of the film.
Batty gets knocked off the edge. He's not looking up the entire time.
Helicopter shows up and drops a ladder. Shot of ladder swinging by a gargoyle...wait... back up...why are there clothes hanging off the gargoyle?
And wait? What's his final line? "Sometimes...I just kill myself."

Join us next time next week, same batboard, same bat-forum, where I shall discuss why we never really sent men to Mars, that was just a hollywood conspiracy.

What about his BODY lying on broken concrete at the end? I don't think that is his astral body.

Thug #278. Or, more likely, a dummy, since there was no splatter.

Batman is always going to be splatter free unless Peter Jackson takes it on.

But Thug #278 is a good and hopeful explanation. Any other alternative tangents to keep green follicles alive?

What about the shots of the Joker lunging for the ladder dangling beneath the helicopter ... only to have the batarang line tangle around his ankle and the gargoyle. The gargoyle breaking off. The shocked look of surprise on the Joker's face ... the plummet to his death.

Another thug, you say?

Where did the thug come from? There was only Bats, Vicki and Joker on that ledge...

The only thing Batman and Robin got right was that they didn't kill one of the staples of the rogues gallery.

If he was setting it up, Likealook Thug #278 (somebody name THAT reference), wouldn't be in the fight, he'd pop in later.

Anyways, that's one of the endless debates that was waged when people found out Nicholson had a bit in his contract about coming back in another Batman film. Whether that was true or another rumour, I have no clue, but SUPPOSEDLY that's why the line & the spare pair of clothes no one could explain were in the film, since the Joker's known in the comics for killing himself off when the heat gets too high.

And then the Penguin kills himself.
And then Two-Face kills himself.
And then Schumaker kills himself.

Batman went wrong with Tim Burton.

The series went bad when they decided to make a third batman.

Yes, I've heard of the Lobo/Supes collab as well. Off the wall lunacy and chaotic machinations may be what Superman needs. Heck, get Lobo in Batman as well. See how Bats contends with a man several shades darker than him.

Good memory D.B.

I really haven't more about that storyline since I first heard it.

We need risk takers and Benwa Balls.

A Lobo movie can get made simply because of the logic that a Blade movie actually got made. I'm hoping for a ballsout R-Rated Supes/Lobo movie that spins off into a separate Lobo movie.

Of course, the above cannot happen but it would be nice. Bloody nice.

And I'll add this: if WB thinks that getting Aranofksy (sp?) to direct will give the film a darker feel to it, why not just get Burton back on it? Are they pissed at him over the whole "Superman Lives" falling-out? Or is it the fact that his movies are flops (extremely loveable flops, but flops nonetheless)? Seems like it's back to square one with 'em, so far as how they want Batman 5 to feel. Is the PI guy the way to go?

I think it's probably because we have already seen and gauged the vision of Burton with regards to Batman as well as possibly predict the direction he may take with the series.

It's time for a shake-up. Get new blood in. Get someone who has the visual fortitude to give the series a new look; someone who has cut his teeth in independent productions. Someone who may see things from a different perspective. Someone who doesn't usually subscribe to conventional movie-making. These factors will enhance and integrate well with a big-budget movie.

At the very least, it will be fucking interesting. I'd be happy if it was Aronofsky but even if it is not, they best get someone not usually associated with this genre. Hey, they can't be any worse than 'Shoe-Marker'.
