The inclusion of Winona Ryder.

I enjoy all four Alien movies as well.

I think the thing in Resurrection is that in cloning Ripley, they also clone the alien that was growing inside of her ... am I right? When is it that Ripley gives blood in 3 ... the blood used to clone her in 4?

If Alien3 was a standalone, it might be considered great. Aliens took the series to another plane and then 3 just smothered whatever potential development the series may have.

Whatever else you may fault with Resurrection, it is still a good jumping point for the series to take off.

One of my least favourite moments occurs in 4 where you get badly rendered swimming xenomorphs.

The end of Alien when Xeno the Acid-filled Warrior is ejected out of the escape shuttle, you are suddenly shaken out from the movie to realise he is but a man in a suit.

The autopsy of Newt was without a doubt the most tasteless and cruel moment to any film's fanbase in history.

Fincher was happy with just killing her. He had to rip her rib cage open in extreme close up...

Actually, you never saw it. You saw the nasty saw. You heard the grissly ripping sound. You saw the blood-stained saw. I actually didn't mind this. Most of the "tale" was told in Ripley's face -- the loss of the daughter, etc.

Least favorite moment? That the cat doens't get it in the first movie. Goddam, I hate that thing, and I always wished that the crew members would have sacrificed it to the alien as bait or something. Fuckin' stupid cat.

Oh, no. The cat has one of the best acting moments in that movie. Watch the close-up as Harry Dean gets it. That cat is envious of the hunting skill!

Alien Cubed has NOTHING but CONTEMPT for the audience. After Cameron widens the playing field in an unheralded way, eighty-five ucredited (and bad) screenwriters shut it down, and Diamond David Fincher directs it in the dark.

It's nearly a carbon copy of the first film, only there's no witty banter or comraderie between anyone, so it doesn't matter when they die-and hey-they're all greasy, dirty, bald, and dying in the dark-so ya' can't even see who they are, anyway.

It's a really expensive Friday the 13th movie where Jason walks on walls, and the "virginal" survivor that kills Jason is offed in the opening scene-in what is the WORST MOMENT IN THE FRANCHISE.

And the only reason she's offed is that they couldn't explain the girl that played Newt (Carrie Henn-just so Django doesn't think I didn't know the name) being all grown up, and didn't want to cast around to find a clone.

Alien Cubed might just be the worst sequel ever-right in front of Superman IV...

That reminds of that line from Spinal Tap - "there's such a fine line between stupid and clever". Killing off Newt and Hicks at the beginning was a stupid thing to do. Right there, not ten minutes into the film, you've lost a good part of your audience.

What amuses me to no end are the only two news items I've heard on Carrie Henn in the last ten years or so.

The first was how Sigorney Weaver was so shaken up by how our now grown Newt would take her on-screen death that she brought her to the premiere so she could help her get thru it. Never mind the fact that it was Weaver who had her killed in the first place.

The second was in EW a few years back where they showed a (then) current photo of her and revealed that she became a Kindergarden teacher. Now THAT would be something, wouldn't it?

"They mostly come out on open house. Mostly."

Again, HAM's right on the money. Although I must say that at least one of those 85 writers actually treated Newt and Hicks with some respect. Course that was William Gibson so it shouldn't surprise anyone...

The re-edited Highlander 2 isn't a Highlander flick-but it's stylish, well-paced, has a very cool villain (Ironside is the man), a charming Sean Connery, and some slick set-pieces.

Alien 3 has no real hero to get behind (in the wake of the death of her FAMILY-Ripley is even more sour, and why would she want to live?), no menace to hate (the Alien is a force of nature-it's just doing what it does-THE COMPANY was always the real threat. At least you don't see the Aliens fucking each other for a percentage), no standout characters (In Highlander 2, you've got the great John McGilnley being a cheese dick), and-to be honest none of Fincher's "trademark" style (whereas in Highlander 2, you've got Russell Mulcahy-a guy who, like Fincher, cut his teeth on videos, moving his camera around with considerable grace).

Highlander 2 and Alien 3 are actually not so different as far as cinematic experiences go-they alienate casual fans and devotees alike, were costly mistakes, and are nowhere near as good as the films that preceded them.

But at least Highlander 2 had its moments-Ironside chewin' the scenery, the bullet-riddled attack on the Sheild Building, the flying chase...

Name one stand-out moment in Alien 3 that involves some really cool character (and doesn't involve the death of the principals), or some really great action moment.

It's not possible-because Alien 3 is just one big brown filter...one big brown bald head, one earth-toned Alien you never see.

At least Highlander 2 had the really cool moment whe Connor gets kissed by the semi-tanker-trailer, steps through the flames, and smiles that tiny smile...

Again I hate to admit this, but I really like Charles S. Dutton's speech during the funeral scene...

Part 3 and 4

Aliens has got to be the best one of the series. Aliens3 and 4 tried to go in a different direction, more like dramas with face huggers in them. I was so ready for another thing on the marines getting waxed by the Aliens. But, they let me down.
