Toys Based on Classic or Cult Movies: A New Hope

OK gang, in an attempt to come in here and see something other then goddamn Movie Maniac topics, I wanna hear your thoughts on this wave of obscure movies being turned into action figures.

And I don't mean recent movies like The Matrix or Gladiator.

Already on store shelves are figures based on the following:

Army of Darkness, Dawn of the Dead, Planet of the Apes, The Road Warrior, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Slap Shot, Strange Brew, and The Thing to name a few.

While these are already known to be coming:

Above The Law, The Dark Crystal, The Fifth Element, Highlander, Rambo, Reservoir Dogs, and Up In Smoke.

While yes many of these are McFarlane, did you ever really think that there would be a time in your life when you could have Steven Seagal come in to bust a party with Cheech and Chong and The Mckenzie Brothers?

What are your thoughts on this tread?

I use my Cliff Vandercave and Koopa King figures to re-enact scenes from Blue Velvet.

Any company willing to put out well-manufactured (read-toys that don't look like TREAT unless they're from DEEP RISING) toys from obscure flicks is aces in my book.

I used to try to build figures that I knew would never exist.

Jackie Chan...Connor MacLeod...Chow Yun Fat...there are companies taking care of almost all of my toy needs.

I knew life was going to get better when Jakks Pacific scanned my precious Cammy's head...

I never thought of the damn Koopa King figure. Best I ever did was with the Deacon figure Waterworld and a non-descript Playskool blond headed Mother figure I used to do a diarama to The River's Edge.

Then there was the time I used the Dr. Smith Lost In Space figure, a Jean Reno Godzilla fig, and Queen Amidala figure to do Leon 2: Two Shades of Blue.

But I swear the greatest obscure toy line of all time is Virus. For not only can my Michael Meyers figure stalk Jamie Lee Curtis, but I now have a Joanna Pacula figure to seduce my other toys.

Now if I only had a Clayton Rohner figure, I could do new stop-motion episodes of E.A.R.T.H. Force with my old Buck Roger figure.

Oh yes, and for a look at many of the figures mentioned above plus the first shots of the LIVE ACTION Tick figures, head on over to...

A few things I just realized.

1. If you get the Tim Stack/Notch Johnson figure from the Son of a Beach line, you can do Action Figure Night Stand!

2. Dude, they made Fez' gay boy toy from The Road Warrior.

3. And how f-ing cool are Mad Max slot cars?

The promo photo I saw did indeed show then standing in front of the van-but I don't know if it was a mock-up or something they're going to put into production.

So I didn't say...
