Ohh look, a soap box and nobody's using it.
Is it just me or is the "action" being taken out of action figures of late? With the advent of Mcfarlane we've seen some of the greatest leaps and bounds in toy sculpt since they used rubber heads on He-Man figures. But I ask you, what good is all this detail if all the thing does is stand there and look pretty? How many of us really have time to lay around the house and ooh and ahh over how exquisite the latest figure is. I don't know about you, but after a week I don't even notice a diorama anymore. The argument has always been that you have to sacrifice play value for sculpt, why? One of my favorite figures is the Captain America that came out of the spider-man line a few years back. Aside from the lame ass shield it was pretty well sculpted, down even to the links in his chain mail. He's jointed at the knees and elbows and you can move the shoulders hips and legs. Not a bad compromise I say. Hell some of the best figures I've seen are the Bandai Gundam Wing action figures. More joints than you can count and they look awesome. Yet with each new series of action figures they become more like statues and less like toys.
