Pictures of childhood toys you miss - Page 2

I had that Ming figure, but it was the only "Gordon" figure I had and it was in worse condition than the one in that photo. It must have been a hand-me-down toy from one of my brothers.

Does anyone remember this weird figure?

One side of the figure looked normal and then you'd flick a button and his waist would spin and he was all blue and crazy looking.
That seems vaguely familiar, but I might be confusing it with Captain Power which I may have also have had.

I think I had a Marshall Bravestar, maybe a weird robot horse as well.

I can't find a decent pic, but anyone remember Manglor? Those toys that came in these egg like things, and the big gimmick was you could pull them apart and put them back together? That is, until it dried out or the carpet fuzz got on it and it didn't work. I just loved the two week shelf life toys.

That Six Million Dollar Man figure kicked serious ass. I thought it was so cool that you could look through his head. There was also a large Spiderman figure out around the same time that was very cool. You could make it climb walls, er, or something. I think this is the one:

Of course. The Power Lords. They even had a video game:

Um, yeah.
Yeah, the Spiderman toy had a string with a plastic loop on it, you hung it on something and he would climb it. Seriously loved that toy.
A bit out of the adventure toy realm but I loved these:

I don't think my Steve Austin toy had 'Super Bionic Grip'. Maskatron was my favourite of that line of toys. If you pressed the black buttons on his arms/shoulders/legs his forearms/head/legs would pop out. Unfortunately, after a while you couldn't get them to stay attached.

My cousin and I each got LazerTag for Christmas one year. We'd get up early in the morning and set up the sensor on someone's pillow while they were sleeping. After moving a safe distance (read: out of arm's reach) we'd blast the target. Good times.

What the heck are those two blob-like things? Some kind of playsets I assume, but they don't look familiar.

Check out what I stumbled on, the TV commercial for that very toy. Neat stuff. I like how toys could actually do things back in the day, instead of just being lumps of plastic.

"The Spider-light - You can watch him climb in the dark and pretend he's searching for the enemy."

Spidey needs a flashlight? What happened to his Spider-sense?

Do you have shares in YouTube?
That's silly. YouTube is not currently a publicly traded company and it would be impossible for an individual to own shares in their enterprise. Perhaps after they provide a solid business model in which a revenue stream can be feasible over a long duration will they go public.

In the meantime, here's the opening from the first season of "Perfect Strangers:"

Exactly. The traffic growth is through the roof, so if they do have a reliable way to turn a buck on it those hypothetical shares sound pretty interesting. Insert advertisements at the beginning of every clip maybe?

Never really liked that Balky dude. I always get him confused with Peter Stormare for some reason.
Peter Stormare confused with Balki? Stop this crazy world cuz I wanna get off!

Oh well, here's the opening from one of the later seasons of "Perfect Strangers," when they got some money in their pockets and could afford to go to Cubs games and the opera.

Are you saying you can't imagine Balki in 8MM? Sure you can.
Hey, it would have given Pinchot a chance to work with James Gandolfini. They just missed each other in TRUE ROMAMCE.

Oh yeah, and this toy was bitchin'!

I'm sorry, but the answer we were looking for is: Don't be ridiculous.

Don't be ridiculous. Better luck next time, and thanks for playing.

This thread is almost like a punch in the balls.

The worst bits -

Remembering that I used to have, and lost due to the fact that I was an asshole kid who thought it was great to destroy all my toys -

The entire collection of original Battlestar Galactica figures
That original, 2 ft tall Alien figure with the glow in the dark skull and second set of jaws
Most of the original Micronauts, especially Acroyer, Reptos and Membros.

The good bits -
I still have all of my Starting Line-Up figures and most of the M.U.S.C.L.E. figurines.

Curse all you lucky fucks that had the large Shogun Warriors, especially Godzilla. I don't know why, but I never had any of them. Only the smaller models.
Had this guy, and the yellow lightcycle.

Loved this bad boy of a truck

Had this too, but it kinda sucked after 8 minutes

My own Harry Hamlin figure:

And last but not least, Nick's favorite sextoy...

What was the name of that miniature army man series of toys? It was like Polly Pocket for boys. I had the big canteen that turned into an aircraft carrier. It was awesome.
Oh fuck, I had all three of the Centurions, Moltisanti.
Those things were massive, if you weren’t careful and dropped one on your foot you were fucked. I believe I had only 2 of the 3 because my parents didn’t really love me.

Micro Machines? They do look cool, but I never had any. It was Matchbox and Corgi for me.

This might still be buried somewhere in my parents basement, at least I'd like to think it is.

I don't remember ever mutilating any toys, except for a little General Lee I bashed with a hammer to make it look crash damaged. Frankly it looked more like it had been flattened with a hammer.

The Guns of Navarrone Playset. The only disadvantage to this was that I spent so much time playing with it and imagining what I thought the movie was like, that when I finally saw the movie, I was hugely disapointed.

Awesome. I used to drool over those mountain base sets in the Sears catalog, but never got one.

I couldn't have been the only one who had these, right?:

I wanted them, but Santa gave me the middle finger that Christmas... Oh yeah I found out recently that my stepdad threw out my original Castle GreySkull...

My local toy shop was always short of Star Wars stuff, so I had to get into Robotech.

My first true love: my tauntaun.

The Matchbox Robotech toyline never had anything that cool. That must be a Japanese Macross import. Very nice.

I used to salivate over this guy at FAO Schwarz, but never got one:

What a great thread. When I started to think about the toys that really meant something to me as a kid, I realized that I haven't consciously thought about them in years. My cousin and I fought many an epic battle with our Major Matt Mason sets. And I probably still carry the scars from Thingmaker-induced burns.

I never had this, but I coveted it. I even remember the commercial jingle-
It's fun fun fun
That's so so keen!
And it's name is
The Snoopy Snow Cone Machine!
You put ice cubes in
And get a snow cone out!
(Child-"It's fun.")
Fun, fun, fun
Is what it's all about!

Why do I know that? I hate myself.

Loved these figures, great cartoon as well:
POWER EXTREME!

Had the M.A.S.K., Action force (GI Joe in the UK) Transformers, you the usual lot. But my favourite was a short lived range called Starcom.
There were spaceships and vechiles that had magnetic areas were, whenyou placed a figure on them would start to move or open stuff up. Very cool toys, might look at eBay and see whats going.

I had that giant Alien figure. Fell off a shelf when I was in college and the head broke off. I think I may have cried.

Here are some other ones I had:

Sweet. Buck Rogers right?

What the heck is this?

Micronauts?

Man, I remember this one. Was it remote-controlled, or did it just make noises?

Of course I had a Merlin as well. My brother just got a new mini version, but as it doesn't come with the killer songbook the entertainment value is diminished.
Yeah, that's a hatchet fighter from Buck. I thought my Boba Fett figure would look cool in it and my parents obliged.

The next two are both Micronauts, the Hornetroid and the Terraphant. The Hornetroid was one of the coolest toys I ever owned.

The tank was called Big Trak. It was programmable -- you could set it to go forward and backwards, turn left and right, back up, and even fire the "laser" on the front. I used to send it down the hallway to fire into my sister's room, which provided me no end of enjoyment.

Now that's a toy. Don't know if they make 'em like that anymore.

I always wanted one of those 3 foot high robots you'd see in the Sharper Image catalog that supposedly could find its way around the house and talk. My little brother had one of these, but it wasn't quite the same:

I always wondered if those friction powered motorcycles actually worked, or fell over after 2 feet.

Star Wars definitely had some neat playsets in those days. Or at least they looked neat in the Sears catalog.

You could get a good 20 feet out of them, actually. A neighbor kid had the Rocket Car and put a hole in his bedroom door with it.

The Death Star playset was all about the Trash Compactor. It was filled with foam rubber 'trash' (plus a bright green Dianoga) and you turned the screw until the escape hatch popped open. Simple, satisfying engineering.
