GOODBYE PICTURE SHOW, the new song from Package

Micah's favorite! Right up there for me. Definitely the most personal song I've ever written lyrics for, and if you knew my Dad you'd understand why.

GOODBYE PICTURE SHOW
(lyrics: Nunziata - music: Robinson)

I watched the curtain fall on another phase of my life
just a flickering image in a dark room
so says some, but to others so much more
a rite of passage

Tracing time as images on a screen and you held my hand
inherited love of escape and a sense of wonder
those days are gone, but your guidance carries on
it makes me fearless

Once the frames pass by
the aperture will close
the last reel run dry
seemingly a picture come to life
the negative exposed
goodbye picture show

Memory distorts as the curtain falls on the blank screen of my life
just a lonely flashback to a companion
you can't be seen, and it's hard to remember your face
it keeps on fading

The hum of a projector warms the heart and it soothes the emptiness
yet just a flickering image in a dark room
the last reel has shown, and we've come up
so short of forever

Once the frames pass by
the aperture will close
the last reel run dry
seemingly a picture come to life
the negative exposed
goodbye picture show

Once the frames pass by
the aperture will close
the last reel run dry
far away as if in a dream
you call back to me
but the lens can't find focus
seemingly a picture come to life
the negative exposed
goodbye picture show

Vocals & keys: Nunziata
Guitar and bass: Robinson
Guitar and drums: Murphy

Bueller?

Come on, people. One listen online can't be that difficult. This is a REAL special song.

Give it a try.

While listening to this song, I could picture it playing at the end of a movie during the credits.

I liked the song. A movie reference song without actually referencing a movie, if you catch my meaning.

Tom, thanks.

The rest, DAMN.

The title of this song (so nostalgic) made me want to wait to listen to it until I had sufficient time to take it in.

I was afraid that the song couldn't live up to the title, but I was wrong. I love this song. It is a very thoughtful and eloquent expression.

I think I may have a new favorite Package song.

Damn, that has got to be the best package song yet.

It almost felt personal to me, great lyrics! And the vocals DAMN.

Thanks to all for the input so far.

I'm especially proud of this one and I'm happy it's finding an audience, albeit small.

It's been awhile since I've had time to download and listen to tunes. But today, I just did a bunch of that.

This is the first of the Package tunes I downloaded. I really like the intro to this. It's so much like the kind of music you'd hear in a sad/wistful/hopeful part of a movie. Songs of a personal nature always feel special to the performer, but I think, as some others have said, by extension, it feels really special to the listener as well. This is a great song. It's full of singable melodies and the vocals are done with a lot of heart. The guitar solo is perfect for the song. It's a beautiful song.

Chalk it up to a difficult time in my life right now, but I cried. Thanks. I needed that.

Thanks so much.

This is a song that COULD have come out really sappy and fake, and I'd rather do a Milli Vanilli cover than be sappy and pointless.

It is a serious and personal subject, at least how the lyrics go but also even as an instrumental it's hard not to be at least a little affected by it.

Overall, one of my faves.

Damnit, if this isn't great.

This is one of the few songs on The All Devouring Beast that I cannot listen to over and over. It's just too sad to me. The lyrics create such vibrant visuals that it's almost too much to take in. Of course, I'm a girlie-man, so that could be part of it.

Nevertheless, it is a very special song. LOTS of feeling.

Several months late, but I'm just catching up. Great song. In a word: evocative.

This is a great but heartfelt song. With great vocals by Nick and the amazing music by Micah.

This song reminded me of all the family and friends that died during the years. It made me think about the good times I had with them and what would I do if they were still alive. The song especially made me think of my grandmother who died so long ago but I have such good memories of her. I miss them but my life must go on.

Great job guys!

Okay, so maybe Nick does not appreciate every piece of PKG feedback...

sounds really oldschool, i like that

Is it just for fun or are you really recording songs for a record - or do you already sell lps ?

sorry guys. this one hasn't caught me yet. i've listened to it a few times, and it's got the potential to grow. i wouldn't release it as a single, but it has it's moments. i really like the lyrics, and the creepy organ-like changes, but it isn't one of my favorite pkg songs. i couldn't say it was a bad song. it just isn't bad at all. i just really enjoy superconductor, a lot. it may grow on me, though.

I just finished listening to it again. Touchingly beautiful piece of work.

Love the Lips dearly (and I think I'm the only one in the band who does), but no.

Nick's singing is nowhere near Wayne Coyne's, and it's not as psychedelic as they'd do it.

The chord progression....maybe, but that's not particularly evocative of them, necessarily.

I dig the slow pace, how it builds up to the guitar lead. Nice guitar lead, too. The lyrics are certainly not too shabby either.

Personally, if I was producing this song, I would push for some background vocals, maybe just a vocal harmony or maybe another line under one of the last chorus'. Just my ponderings.

It's a damn good song.

song of day

These lyrics are so very poetic...The feelings of love and loss absolutely come through. I like the subdued vocals and music that then come to a crescendo at the end. It reminds me of something that I just can't place. I'll edit this post if it comes to me. Very nice, Gentlemen.
