NURTURED TO EXTINCTION
(lyrics: Nunziata - music: Nunziata, Murphy, Robinson)

Something triggers in a part of the brain
You label it as offensive
Slap on a label and hide it in the dark
Before it gets to the children

Decisions are made in a flash of the mind
That pulls the wool over pristine wide eyes
Over thought, what hath we wrought
Does the gray really matter?

You've got to build it up to tear it down
We're barricaded in a world of expressions
To hide from reality
Build it up to tear it down
Before we're nurtured to extinction

Point the finger like a loaded gun
Aim without impunity
Let loose a torrent of serrated barbs
It's so much easier than communique

Life can be rough
It'll kick you when you're down
It's the same thing our grandparents took on the chin
They took it in stride, 'cause the skin grows thick
When you treat it to the cold

You've got to build it up to tear it down
We're barricaded in a world of expressions
To hide from reality
Build it up to tear it down
Before we're nurtured to extinction

Well, I don't need you to tell me
How I have to feel about anything
I may get burned, I may feel ill
Well, that's all right, it's my right to feel
Let them try to break me
Let them try to manipulate me
The harder it is…
the more you have to stare it in the eyes

You've got to build it up, to tear it down
Wasting away in a sanitized way weakening each and every day
Build it up to tear it down
Before we're nurtured to extinction

Vocals & Bass: Nunziata
Drums & Guitar: Robinson

Great subject matter with great lyrics. I really like the driving force of the music, mixing in the dotted eighth->sixteenth note combo every few bars (that's how I'm hearing it anyway) is good. I like that contrast. I also enjoy the more mellow verse in the last third.

I love the chorus. I can totally envision a sea of rabid PACKAGE fans shouting along with the band on the "build it up, tear it down" line.

Geez, I spend way to much time on these message boards. I'm amazed with the amount of real work I manage to get done.

Edited 'cause "p" and "b" look the same on a really quick proofread.

The thing that I love most about this song is being CGI'd out of it. Micah re-recorded my guitar because it was a powerful storm of pain, and it turned out nicely.

The chorus is very catchy and it's another fine vocal showing by ol' whatshisname.

This next album is going to be great.

Actually, Steve, I re-recorded your drums. I don't ever remember you playing guitar on this one at any point.

But it came out splendid. Next to Fade Me Out and Steam, it's my favorite Package rocker....until the next favorite comes along.

Best of all, this means the new album, The All-Devouring Beast, is DONE and headed for public consumption SOON.

And without a shadow of a doubt, it's the best music Package has done EVER. I always have different favorites at different times, but objectively speaking, I think this album is a shade beyond all the others in terms of lyrics, musicianship, and songwriting.

Hey, since the PKG lovefest seems to be rolling into town again, I'll mention that this song continues to kick my ass on a regular basis.
