MAKE HIM YOUR SAVIOUR

Make Him Your Saviour
music - Murphy, Nunziata, Wylie; words: Nunziata

You want to see something good
So you step right in his trap

Waiting all the time for a man to arrive
and ease the burden of impatience and a lifetime of praying
hours spent by bedsides asking all the questions
will never get answered from just sitting and waiting
idolize a man who claims to be the conduit to the ultimate voice
and ignoring the warnings
he's channelling something called charisma and it's working
to the tune of a couple of hundred million dollars

He's so exciting, he's so enlightning, make him your saviour
So full of mystique, flavor of the week, make him your saviour
Living in disguise, apple of your eyes, make him your saviour

The world comes undone and you need a meaning
to the senseless shattering of everything
grasping at straws and watch them blow in the wind
when a fresh voice rises like a flower in spring
he makes you feel like your soul has a home
every place a pulpit in the global village square
he's channelling something called charisma and it's working
like a charm until the cupboard is bare

He's so exciting, he's so enlightning, make him your saviour
So full of mystique, flavor of the week, make him your saviour
Living in disguise, apple of your eyes, make him your saviour

You want to see something good
come right up into my trap

Drums, bass, guitar: Murphy
Guitar: Wylie
Keys, Vocals: Nunziata

Not the FINAL version, but a good gauge. This is the first song from our next CD of new material.

Very, very, VERY good.

A hard fusion of Garage Days-ish Metallica, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath-era Black Sabbath, and Filter.

Extra kudos to Murph for the increasingly virtuosic drumming.

I love the opening riff.
It reminds me of...Heart.

The rest?
FAR too much distortion. All I can hear is the crash cymbal, Nick's vocals are incoherent because teh distorted voice effect mixes really well with the guitar distortion, completely masking both. I didn't hear the riff once after the intro. The guitar solo is VERY Sabbath-y. Cool, cool.
I like the end as well. It sounds like it's a really awesome song, but I couldn't really make any of it out. Sorry.

I could make out the guitar just fine, but the synth riff does get lost behind the guitar as HMT. But as Nick said, it's a rough mix, and I'm sure he'll raise the volume and add presence on it in the near future.

As for the voice thing...I can understand what you mean, HMT, as his vocals keep hitting midrange F-notes, and the guitar riff is mostly a low F chord played over and over. Again, I believe he'll tweak this in the mix by changing the space of the guitar in the stereo spectrum/raising the vocal volume and perhaps adding slight delay/adding mids and presence to the vocals.

But those are all mix issues Nick'll tweak in time. I still really like the song.

I hesitated posting at first because upon the first couple listens I had unfiltered HATE for the song. Upon further reflection, my two issues with the song are:

a) I do not like speed metal or it's ilk very much.

b) I can't understand a damn thing once the song speeds up.

I've made my musical tastes known about the boards so (a) shouldn't be that much of a surprise. It'll probably never change. As Micah stated above, issue (b) is mostly a mixing issue. I'm sure that'll be taken care of later before the finished product.

How do I like the song after quite a few listens? I love the intro. I can't tell if it's done on the keys or with guitar effects, though. As soon as the tempo picks up, I'm taken out of it for now, and it kinda sounds like someone is rushing the tempo in the few bars before the chorus. I think the guitar solo is pretty swank. And the drums have a nice showing as well.

Sorry if my opinion is too negative, but I don't want to blow smoke up anybody's ass.

I understand about rough mixes. I just made sure to say that it was hard to understand everything so that you wouldn't wonder why I didn't make any real concrete analysis. I think the song will sound great. It has great parts and you know I love the metal.

Well, I'm glad someone besides us listens for the technical stuff, actually. Sometimes, you need "outside" ears to hear something truly objectively. Thanks for the input.

It's death metal, for the love of Jason!

I feel like I need a wicked cockpunch for what I posted above. It really bothered me all night.

You guys are working really hard and being incredibly productive. You put your work up for everyone to enjoy and I just poop on it. What's worse is that I don't even try to be helpful in any way.

What I said pretty much sucks. Sorry for that, guys. Keep up the great work.

I listened to it a few more times, and I really paid attenion. The main verse riff is pretty much just a pedalled E right? Well, that's certainly death metal. The chorus is actually a really good rif, especially when it's going underneath Nick's doubled voice. The riff is really old school Metallica sounding, like something from Kill/Ride.
Good stuff, just try to clean it up a little.

You know, I rarely listen to anything before the album is in my hands (Particularly when it comes to Package) but I'm fucking dying to hear this. I may have to give it a shot....

Slightly different mix going up.

Interesting info, this may be song that puts a nail in PKG as it was known but fuck it. What matters is that Steve and I LOVE the song.

Hopefully this new mix works a little better for you.

http://www.chud.com/demo/makehimyoursaviour.mp3

... and Outlaw, PLEASE listen to these as they go up. You never know when the bottom will drop out and these won't be available.
Huh? What's happening to PKG?
I think it's a much better mix. The synth riff has a twinge of flange to it now and is more audible whenever it plays throughout the song. The vocals are more present, but not TOO intelligible - exactly as they should be.

I liked the song before, but even more now. I'm always pleased when Steve unleashes his harder-edged guitar fury, and his drumming here is splendid.

I can't say I had anything to do with it, but this is a great start for the next album.

What band name it'll be under or who the band lineup will be will also be interesting to find out.
Better mixxx, too. I like it much better now.
I like this version much better. I like the clearer distinction between the vocals and guitar. The guitar part is still swank.

Not that it's any of my business, but is PKG disbanding or perhaps going through a major line-up change? At any rate, I look forward to more new stuff from the band.

Good to see a little positive feedback for a song I treasure.

Regarding the band, we'll see.

Right now, I think we're a little disjointed and need a little kick in the pants.

DIG.

Very, very cool track. Picking up more and more of a Sabbathy vibe from parts of it. I'll comment more after I've had the chance to listen to it a few more times, but so far, I'm liking what I hear.

Very nice, but once you guys go crazy at the beginning, I can't make out any of the words, but I could hear them better as the song went on. Me like.

I agree... it is a bit messy when it kicks in. I just think the song has a neat energy. All four songs off the next CD are quite different, and this one is a fave.

The energy is amazing and is why I dig the song. If there's anyway to clean up the lyrics a bit to make them sound more coherent, than that's a plus but the song is still good either way.
I think making the lyrics more pronounced would change the focus of the song. I like it the way it is.

I really like those lyrics. Who wrote?

Jay-Z ghostwrites every word out of Nick's mouth.

That explains so much.

They don't need to be the focal point of the song but if you can't even fathom what the hell he's saying, he might as well cut the words or just babble.

But that's just my opinion.
If they reworked the vocal so that it was clear what is being said at all times, than the vocals would become the focal point of the song.

Reminds me a bit of Ministry. Couldn't always make out the lyrics, but the sound was great.

I write all the lyrics, because I hate poets.

Regarding the crunchy, vileness of the first salvo...

I really wanted us to have a song that was kinda death-y and this was the one. PKG is and always will be a band built on music first and words and vocals 2nd, and more often than not I keep the vox low in the mix because personally I like hearing all the cool shit being played.

I'm also not gifted like Chris Cornell or Mike Patton so the vox in the center stage would be kind of boring.

I have toyed with changing the vocal track but i really love the song as is, and though i fixed one little part of the guitar track Steve didn't like I was afraid to make the verses all audible and friendly.

This is mood music, not "The Greatest Love of All".

Indeed, it's much closer to "I Will Always Love You."

I dig this song.I don't know how Nick,Steve and Wylie does it but the thing that matters to me is......

Their is not a slow moment in the song!

I would buy a Package cd this instant if it wasn't for bills, gas, food, movies, tuition and clothes.

But christmas is around the corner......their is hope. Great job guys!

The enhanced PKG discussion is quite pleasing. Thanks, gents.
I'm listening to it more and the vocals as it picks up have become less of a problem for me. I think the vocal effects, though, kinda clash with the distortion during the fast and heavy parts, but maybe that's just me...

I might rerecord the distorted vox, but regardless... bump!

MUCH better. A PKG song that's considerably different than any other, but equally great. Dig.

My single gripe: Too much distortion. Hard to say if it's the guitar or the vocals, but there are bits and pieces when the cymbals hit that it briefly becomes a bit much. Aside from that, I love it.
One of my favorite songs ever, next to the Package Marine Fight Song. It's a great, fast metal song that begs to played at high volume in a speeding car in the wee hours of the morning. Only noticible concern was right before the chorus, the distortion on the guitar gets a little too heavy.
Then again, I don't notice it much because I'm enjoying the song!
Keep up the amazing work, guys!
