I think Package is overdue for some non-pandering anti-BS love

Note: I'm prepared to be accused of shameless ass-kissing, but I hope no one will because I mean this in the most sincere way.

This is a true story.

Thursday night, I'm driving home at 1 AM. The city is quiet, and the weather is cool at 62 degrees. Traffic is light, and I can get away with 50 MPH most of the way home.
These are the perfect conditions for contemplation.

I'm listening to Megadeth, which, if you don't know, has a highly unique vocalist. I began thinking about other vocalists who have a sound completely their own.(Mind you that most of these are from the rock and metal genre. Sorry! I'm not too diverse.)Anyway, unique vocalists. Ozzy Osbourne, King Diamond, Lemmy, Henry Rollins, Axl Rose, Nick Nunziata, Peter Steele, and DAve Mustaine.

Yes, I actually thought those names.

Of course, Nick's name stood out in the list, because let's face it, that wouldn't be the answer many people would give. BUt I thought about it, and even though I haven't heard a lot the independent and underground bands and artists that many people speak of on these boards, I have never heard anyone like Nick before. Then I remembered the styles that he is capable of. The campy goodness of I Like Spikes, the groovy smoothness of Traps, and the bloody vocal cord rippings of Steam. And there's a lot more too.

Thinking further, I realized that there isn't even a band like Package. Sometimes silly, sometimes serious, but always dead-on.

I think Package ought to be really proud of what they do.

Nice job, Nick, Steve, Micah, and Daniel.
Thanks.

Shit.

Thanks.

But we're really just getting started.

Well, at the risk of shamlessly plugging....

I have almost a full album of solo stuff done. It's not EXACTLY techno/ambient, as there will be guitar, vocals, strings, samples, and everything else and the kitchen sink in there.

But I'd like for The Package LP to come out and enjoy some love before I even begin talking too much about it or trying to get people to hear it. My "release date" is linked to Package's.

So whenever Sea of Problems drops, add say 2 months, and then you'll have a bunch of new stuff from me. I think I 'll post a "single" or something up here no later than the end of August.

Honestly, thanks Kirk.

I know that the focus of our music is ALWAYS the music. While I like the words and stuff, most everyone in the group likes the stuff as instrumental and I'm always worried that the stuff I record will be hated. I know I don't have the range of a lot of singers and it's just part of the deal. That said, if nothing else, I really try to be ME on the songs and not sound like other guys and if you like it than COOL!

As Micah said, we've only just begun. The first two songs off of our next CD are already almost done and you'll notice a little "growth" from me on 'When Chains Attack'. Also, both feature some amazing guitar work by me with Micah and Steve simply being there to fill the dead space I'm kind enough to provide them in the song.

For those of you unfamiliar with the band's actual sound, let me say that this past weekend I was treated to a bit of it.

Now, as you know I am OLD and mean, not to mention a little ugly tempered sometimes however, I must admit to being a headbanger at heart. (Of course I would deny that in public because of my conservative image)

I have to say I did not know what to expect and I was prepared to "be kind" to both Nick and Steve, who were present when I listened.

I know this sounds terrible, but I was really surprized because the music was good and I am hard to please, when it comes to rock and roll. I normally say, "Oh, it's good, uh huh" and then get away from the sound.

This was different. I liked it. I could put this on my CD changer in my car, except nobody has given me a signed copy.

As a bass and guitar player, I was impressed right off with some of the bass work and with Steve's guitar playing and I am hard to impress.

I did not get a chance to give it a really in depth listen and perhaps after giving it this shameless plug, someday I will be sent a CD to review.

I admit to being a CCR fan and I could hear some of that fun type of outlandish guitar work in their music. What a surprize. It turns out both guys like Credence and I would have assumed Steve was way too young to even know who they were, yet he seems like an uber fan. You can hear influences in their music, yet they have their own sound as well and it all seems to work when thrown together.

Their music goes beyond that and it is the kind of music that a old time rock and roller would like. THAT is a compliment.

When available and if you like the harder type of good old rock and roll, I highly recomend you get yourself a copy of the CD and give a listen. You will not be disappointed. Nick actually can sing too! All this time I just thought he could yell at people!

No love for the big black guy playing guitar and bass, too, Will?

You've got the Pioneer CDC-101 disk changer, too, huh? I wish they'd tell you when you bought the thing that it'll only play signed disks.

For those of us unfamiliar with the sound, is there anywhere we can go to hear a sample of said sound?
(Yes, I've been on the boards this long and I've never heard Package. Deal. I've never been bitch-slapped by Steve Murphy either, so deal.)

OIC! You mean after the big guy snubbed me and didn't come to my house to dine with me? You mean THAT guy? You talking about the big guy on bass and drums who thought, "Why would I want to go meet that evil, nasty ol Will, why I'll just snub him." You mean THAT GUY?

You mean the guy who probably knows that Ol Will has three Carvin Guitars a Gibson electric a Takamine electric, 6 string acustic, a Carvin bass and a ART nightbass and guitar signal processors for all the guitars and a reel to reel eight track with built in mixing board, compressors and an OW1-FD workstation keyboard set up, who would have loved to have Mikah come over and jam with him and after visiting could have shared some homemade sangria from the wine cellar and steaks and lobsters in the freezer and friendship just a waiting for the big black guy that plays guitar, bass and a little drums? You talking about that guy?

What was the question again?

Ever notice how Ol Will can twist things just a might?????

Yep! I got the over large glandular condition CD changer from hell. It'll play 101 CDs non stop, but they forgot to tell me I had to go buy the CD's, 101 CD's. I may be wealthy, but nobody is that wealthy.

The cruelist trick anybody ever played on me was when they loaded my CD player on my car, which is in the trunk with one of my favorite CDs, knowing I listen to that first and this was when I was traveling to the east coast. All was well until the first CD ended. The the collection THEY had compiled for me kicked in. I don't remember all of it but I do remeber Polka music, Don Ho, Sing along with Mitch or something equally horrible sheit and by the time I could find an open music store the next day, there was a path of shattered CD's behind me on the freeway and many, many oaths to get even with the fucks that ruined my whole day of driving.

I know my kid was involved and I shall make her pay at when the estate is divided up at Will reading time. The rest are being searched out as I write this and they shall know punishment.

Will,

I would've had to have been there, first and foremost. And I would've loved to come, but:

1) I was never invited and I don't invite myself to long trips like that. I assume Nick had a reason for only traveling with Steve there (like Steve is his best friend).

2) Even if Nick had invited me, it would've been difficult to take that much time off from my job since I get paid by the hour and not by salary. So I'd have to spend a good bit of dough and give up a week's salary in the process, all the while, wonder whether my boss thinks I took too much time off and is thinking about replacing me, which would leave me HURTING in Atlanta's newly crapped up and bloated unemployment market.

It wasn't personal, really. When I can come out west, I'll do it, and I won't leave until we meet.

BTW, I can't eat seafood (allergies) and I don't drink alcohol. But the steaks would've been wondrous.

Mikah, sounds good! When you come west you are most definately invited. I understand about the fish, Ludwig suffers from a similar condition, which meant I had to eat his lobster for him. (Will is such a nice guy!)

Although nobody will believe it, I go for years sometimes without any alcohol and usually only sip some wine from time to time, unless that doggoned Numziata is here, in which case he forces me to consume great quanities of 43. Damn him!

The equiptment will still be here whenever you come out and probably in a better place to be enjoyed. I withheld the fact that almost none of the gear was available when Nick and Steve were here, much to Steve's displeasure. I left it in the guest house where Nick had seen it the last time he was out here, only this time I have guests in there and they are newlyweds and I wasn't about to knock on their door.

AFTER you come out for the visit, I shall sing your musical praises here on CHUD.

Okay, no seafood and no alcohol, I have it. Would going to see some fantastic guitar players at the House of Blues as my guest, ringside seats, up front and in the middle work for you? All shall be yours if you fall down and worshi...... oops, wrong line,

When you come out to visit LA.

As to steaks we'll do Vida and I'll show you Suzanne!

Sorry for the slight.
Is that a deal?

We had a good recording session today. We've already recorded four songs for 'When Chains Attack' now, with three being heavier than anvils.

MANPOWER - Thunderously powerful rock song that is pretty friggin' epic. Steve and Nick on guitars, Steve on bass, Nick on mic and Micah on Drums.

HOWARD PHILLIP - Very sinister Danziggy song with kind of aggressive FNM sorta vocals. Micah on guitar and bass, Steve on Drums, and Nick on mic.

REARRANGING YOU (tentative) - Pretty and melodic slow tune. Nick on mic and bass, Steve on guitar, and Micah on Drums and guitar.

WHEN CHAINS ATTACK - Aggressive as Hell. Lots o' fun. Steve on drums and bass, Micah on guitars, and Nick on guitars and mic.

In addition I think I have actually gotten the vocals done on SPRING BREAK '85 and PORN. NEW DISEASE should be the last hurlde before we stick a fork in THE SEA OF PROBLEMS.

There's your update. Micah, I need to see you before Monday night. RUSH HOUR merch. Call me on the cell for the love of God.
