AILERON, the new tune from PKG

I had a bass idea festering a few days, something mellow, and when Micah arrived before Steve yesterday we cranke don it and this is the result. A nice, mellow tune. I was trying to place what it felt like...

Aileron
(Nunziata/Robinson)

Steer away from the winds of change, and I'll meet you on the other side
Why waste the surging jetstream being grounded

grounded

Too scared to carry on
Be my aileron

Feel the wave cresting the horizon, it keeps us above concern
Staying high long after the fuel is

gone

Too scared to carry on
Be my aileron

Glide away, better than being brave
Sail the sky, better to be alive
So cut the ground loose and drift until there's nothing left
Just show the way and let your senses carry you
Feeling's believing and as the ground's leaving
Look to your side and I'll be there

waiting

Moments before you're gone
Too scared to carry on
Be my aileron

Drums - Steve Murphy
Guitar - Micah Robinson
Bass, Vocals - Nick Nunziata

Oh, and as I must always remark... this is a work in progress. Not the CD version of the song. It'll be tweaked here and there.

I dig this tune. Nice and mellow.

Nice work fellas. Look forward to the final CD version.

So far, so good. I like the airy feel of the guitar and bass. Works rather well considering the metaphor. I'm generally not a huge fan of the vocal effects, but I really like how they're employed here. A solid effort. I look forward to the final version.

...and Gravedigger, good to see a little Rollins love in your sig.

"In future concert in Czech Republic..."

Thanks, Chief. I was wondering when someone was going to catch that.

I dig it. Very smooth and small scale. Love the title. Seems like an excellent transition track. Keep it comin'!

Thanks! I really love this little tune. Plus, it's different from any other PKG... something we try with each new song. However, as I work on the remakes... prepare for some head bangin'.

This has quickly become one of my favorites.

I don't think it's a "blow you away!" type of tune, but it's one that gets better with each listen.

Very melodic and full. An absolute joy.

And it came together very quickly, too. I think from the time I heard the bass riff for the first time to when we recorded the final arrangement was merely a couple of hours, and we worked on other stuff in that space as well.

Better version up, with added backing vox from Steve.

Is still very good song. Additional backing vocals are a nice touch.

I L-O-V-E the guitar riff in the verse. Also the vocal layers are so full-on. This is a great song. The whole thing flows together really well. That's a sign of a well written song, when the parts aren't fighting each other for attention.
Hot tune kids.

Edited because I forgot to say: Guitar solo orgasm!

the guitar has a sweet edge to it. i don't want this to sound the wrong way. it reminded me of some of the music from the ol' skool zelda 2. that's a good thing, because i think a sound is in there that i rarely hear. i want to say magical, but that doesn't sound right. it's like a happy erie. does that make sense?

listened to this again, today. i love this song. trippy. thank you for this bundle of coolness.

I typically go for more uptempo numbers, but this is my favorite song from this forum so far. I like the mellowtron-type sounds from the guitar, good guitar work all around. Backing vocals, almost always a good thing, like I said in the other thread.

Feels a bit like Radiohead, if I had to pin it down. On that note, if I were to add anything it would be more sonic landscape type guitar sounds. Maybe even a tiny interlude with nothing but some multi-layed quitar sounds with vocals before bringing back in the bass and drums. Maybe a short dynamic shift to loud. My $.02
