Nick sent me this CD gratis and for that I am truly thankful. Here are my comments.
Fade Me Out – It frustrates me when I hear a piece of music like this and I should know what its influences are. Oh well. The guitar work is an excellent throwback to the ‘80’s. The vocals are good and raw.
Starscream – My favorite part on this one is the synth. The only complaint I have is that the chorus seems a bit rushed. The rhythm there isn’t quite right somehow.
Sunspots – Somebody got echo happy!! It’s a little distracting. I love the pace of the instruments and the lyrics are great.
It’s only Pain – This songs rips into a great opening. Quite possibly one of my favorite tracks. The lyrics and vocals are great.
Goodbye Picture Show – The drums really stand out here. It’s a good melancholy rock ballad. The vocals start out a little uneven but the ending is solid.
Forget to Breathe – The vocal manipulations work well here and once again cool keyboard work.
Eyes Don’t Decieve – Great all around track. Good vocals, guitar and drum.
New Kind of Therapy – This one wasn’t my cuppa’. I’m not sure why. I need to listen to it some more.
Grappling with Skeletons – This is more my speed. Good and dark. I’d love to know where the inspiration for the lyrics came from.
Mongorr the Impressionable – Fun instrumental. Good background music.
Smacked with Motorcycles – I can imagine you guys had to much fun writing and recording this one.
Who Goes There – This is a great tribute to The Thing. The background vocals are great. Lead vocals have a nice menacing edge.
Little Bird – Good pop song.
Collecting Mrs. Chonks – Vocals a little muddy. Murphy does well on guitar.
Nurtured to Extinction – Nice counterpoint between slow and easy and hard and rockin’.
Last Transmission – People don’t do enough instrumental pieces anymore. This was a nice one.
Overall I like this CD a great deal. Only one song didn’t appeal to me which is more than I can say for most other band’s CD’s. The guitar was great throughout. The lyrics on all of the songs were well written and in more than one case intriguing. The drims were solid as was the synth. One thing I loved was the wide range of music. No pigeonholing PKG, that’s for sure. More comments as they occur to me.
