Anyone make it to Laser Vid close out?

So, I had no idea about this until earlier yesterday, but Laser Video by North Point is going out of business.

Since I'm no longer in the Atl area, I sent a messenger for me with a list longer than my arm and wound up getting some damn good deals. I think it was something like 50% off the titles and then 33% off the pre-owned ones.

Needless to say, it was an easy way to blow $300.

Anyone else make it to this? I heard it was a mad house! A damn shame to see the store leave. Even though I wouldn't buy new from there (little over priced) it was the only place on my rental list for the area.

Yep, I went. Sad to see that store go. They had a great rental selection and the staff is a really nice, informative group of folks. It was crazy in there (I went on Sat around 6:00 PM). I bought a bunch of disks, but, when it was all said and done, I probably could have done about the same on the old Internet.

You're right Kevin, it is sad to see it go. When I'm back in Atlanta I'm not sure where I'll rent now. Fortunatly, Netflix lives so I guess it won't be too bad.

But the prices I got were fantastic, especially the Criteron ones, however the rest were still around $10 to $17. In fact, I had someone drive them up to me today so that way I wouldn't have to wait till I come back there to pick them up.

They brought me the postcard that Laser Video sent out as well that said their lease was up. It stated that the sale would go on until the end of this month, but from what I understand the good stuff is running out the door pretty quickly.

Picked up 7 DVDs for $77. Saw Mr. Matchstick walking out the door as I pulled up. Got a couple of good ones (in my opinion wink )--

Transylvania 6-5000: $7.49
BaseketBall: $9.99
Hooper: $7.49
Disney's Hercules (animated): $15
The Replacements: $12.50
Transformers: The Movie: $10

And one other whose name escapes me at the moment.

They still had a bunch of stuff left. They also had the 30th anniversary Anchor Bay edition of "Night of the Living Dead" for $12 or $15, if I'm not mistaken. I didn't pick it up because there's umpteen different copies of "NOTLD", and I think the most recent one is the better one.

I must have just missed you Tom, I left before Matchstick did and headed up to the Fancy Pantry for lunch.

Overall I found that even the 50% off prices were still slightly higher than I would pay at other places.

I had that copy of Transylvania 6-5000 in my hand and put it down.

My loss.

I have a few on hold, pending some FRIGGIN' MONEY!

Crimes and Misdemeanors
Suspiria (2 disc)
Deep Red
The Virgin Suicides
Jason and the Argonauts
and about 5 more.

"Meatballs" was my seventh choice. I forgot it because I grabbed it at the last minute, and got a surprise "good choice" from Elizabeth on it.

Justin said he had just saw you Dennis. I looked in the store for you, but I didn't get that he said you had just left. Man, I could have spent hundreds of bucks in there. I put back or resisted buying a ton of stuff.

Tom, I also picked up "Transformers: The Movie".

Here's what else I picked up:

"X-files: Season 4" - the only box of that show that I have.

"Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust"
"SLC Punk"
"Donnie Brasco: Special Edition"
"Black Christmas"
"Fireworks" a.k.a. "Hanna-Bi"
"Julien Donkey-boy"

Good seeing both of you guys, by the way.

Kev, the ONLY thing I asked them to hold for me was X-Files 4. There was one on hold for someone today and I get it if they cancel. Lucky cave troll, you.

They had quite a few copies of "Donnie Brasco". I considered picking up a couple of the Star Trek original episode DVDs, but then I thought that would just get out of control. I also was disappointed they had all those South Park DVDs, but not the one with "Timmy!". That's the one I was looking for. I so desperately wanted to buy a box set of something, but there was really nothing there to my interest. The "Rocky" collection was the closest thing, and I can do without Rocky IV and V, thanks. I almost bought a few of the Monty Python collection, but once again, I could see myself getting out of control with that one. If they had the entire box set there, I would have bought that. Oh well.

I almost bought the "Hellraiser" box set (had "HR" 1 & 2) and there was a nifty looking "2001: A Space Odyssey" box that had some nice inclusions.

Nick, if you don't get that "X-Files" season 4 set from Laser Video, you can get it online. I found it for about $84.00 through DVDPriceSearch.com. I think I picked it up for $75.00 plus tax - not that much of a difference.

Also picked up two Criterion disks: Branded to Kill and A Taste of Cherries

Oh, and Chuck & Buck.

None of these suckas I've seen, so here's to hoping that they are good.

Branded to Kill is great.

Chuck and Buck ain't to bad.

Haven't seen all of A Taste of Cherries.
My bad. It's called Taste of Cherry (actually, its called Ta'm e guilass). Anyway, I picked up Chuck & Buck, even though I heard some sour things. At least it has some special features.

Chuck and Buck sucks ass.

So is LaserVid gone now? I'd sure like to stop by that place one last time...
